I'm going to be staying on Long Beach Pensinsula in Washington the week of August 30. What is/is not allowed re kiting activities on the ocean side? I want to bring a buggy, but suspect that's been banned...

what I have continuously heard is that long beach is a state highway and traction sports are prohibited. Someone closer to the area can tell you for sure.

I imagine that static flying is ok. It might be worth your time to make day trips to sunset beach in Oregon. I read that there might be increased sharks in the water this time of year.

Stetson05 is correct, buggies, land sailors, etc are banned at Longbeach. However, having said that I have been in contact with the Parks Commission and my contact has kept assuring me that changes are or will be in the works. (This is a gov. agency so it allows me to practice patience) One thing I have been trying to get for the short term is talking to the Ranger in the areas and seeing what part of the beach would be ok to fly. Depending on current beach usage. Longbeach central gets fairly crowded, but sections south of the Longbeach area, Seaview approach doesn't see as much traffic. Except for the horses that do trail rides out of town. Further North, 10 or 12 miles, Ocean Park area is normally wide open. If it was me, I would try to talk the Ranger into letting me fly up there. I don't know if any communication has gotten to Rangers or is still sitting with directors. If and when they say no, inform them they are losing tourist dollars to Oregon. Very politely of course. Sunset Beach (Seaside) in Oregon is 30 to 40 minutes away and there isn't any hassles. You don't even have to clear it in advance with the Mayor. Correct Jim? I have often stayed with friends in Longbeach and commuted to Seaside to fly.

I was last out at Long Beach Peninsula 4 years ago, sans buggy. Still had a great time flying stunters and scudding on my butt a mile down the beach with my 3.5 m traction kite. Long walk back.

I called Cape Disappointment State Park to get their scoop. The ranger said as a state highway, the vehicle has to be considered 'street legal.' In her opinion, a bike is OK, but a kite buggy or landboard would be questionable. But I can rollerblade in a street, right? And it's OK to stand in the street and fly a kite ('cuz everyboy walks and flies kites along the beach). Geez, how confusing...

Kind of crazy the home of US's bigest kite festival can't get this figured out...

Think I'll plead ignorance and drive to Oregon if it turns into a problem...

Under that logic I could use my Coyote ROLLERBLADES and kites ???? Until I try to prove it at least.

It is worth driving to Oregon for the company. The people of Sunset Beach are among the finest I have met in my life !
