"Roller-kiting" on asphalt? A little history...

Copied from old forum:

September 2 2000

i believe it was about 1991 we started really getting into kiteskating as a group. rollerblades in parking lots and any style of kite meant a fast ride. that was just before the buggy explosion.
when buggies took to the kite field, kiteskating (yes, roller-kiting) faded away. there were a couple attempts of utilizing
tredmill-offroad skis, but they were slow and not well suited.
in '92, i built a pair of off-road skates using rollerblades and scooter wheels, and have enjoyed ripping up the dry lake-beds
ever since.
they were an unusual sight amongst all the buggies, but soon
became an accepted member of the traction family… perhaps the
odd cousin. now i often find websites from people who have made
their own kiteskates. off-road skateboards are also becoming very popular.

i suppose sometimes i miss the old days skating with friends on
the asphalt, but since hitting the desert on the "wheels of doom", i have never looked back (nor have i known such speed). it’s a great feeling and i love it!

btw: if you other kiteskaters have websites or pics to share, let me know. i am looking to add fellow kiteskater info to my site.
