Excited to come JIBEing!!!- now the Official Count-Down.

soliver - 29-3-2018 at 08:28 PM

Super excited for JIBE this year gang... unfortunately for me kiting has taken a back seat to having lotsa (young) kids, continuous remodeling, work and bluegrass music. Its been a full year since I have gone out kiting. That being said, I am excited to hit the beach, go fast and see friends!

It can be said that its only weeks away, and we are hitting Saint Simons the week before this year (I will text you Jim!!!)

At the time of this post we are only 45 days away!!!! (If I counted correctly  )

soliver - 30-3-2018 at 06:01 PM

Renewed my NAPKA membership and registered just now!

Dont forget to register!!!

hiaguy - 12-4-2018 at 07:41 AM

Is there an "official" JIBE countdown?

soliver - 12-4-2018 at 08:05 AM

Looks like there is not... 22 days til touchdown on Saint Simons for me, which means 29 days til touchdown on Jekyll!!!

Edit: Correction to the number of days... counted wrong!

Demoknight - 12-4-2018 at 08:31 AM

I am outfitting my new car to carry buggy and bikes. I can't wait for the trip! It will be great to see you all again!

Hey Gang

It's that time of the year when Joan sees me checking in to PKF more often and says something like "Signal intelligence picking up a lot of background chatter before a major event, huh?"

Nice to see the usual suspects lining up plus some returning friends that we have missed so much. For Jason, Amanda (and family) or others that cannot make it this time, at least they know that we have the right gang to keep the fires burning for next time.

As I write this I am watching the morning weather and noting that the usual Bermuda High system id taking up residence off the Carolinas and churning out the southeast winds that we count on here in the SE Georgia coast. The weather guys on the JAX news channels are routinely talking about the sea breeze setting up in the afternoon with the resulting thunder boomers.

Davis, glad to hear that the T-shirt concept is coming along; a pirate theme sounds great. Argh!!

Also heard yesterday from a guy in Savannah who is a new rep for a French producer of land-sailors. He will come down with some gear for us to try. I'll likely meet up with him next week and will keep you posted with pics and web links.

Keep the news flowing and we look forward to seeing all y'all down here!

soliver - 13-4-2018 at 09:53 AM

Pulled out both Peaks today to look them over and make sure everything was in good shape... all is well and ready to roll!

Hope to look over the buggies in the next few days.

BeamerBob - 14-4-2018 at 05:39 AM

I picked up some stainless parts yesterday to replace things I had on my buggy that were carbon steel. I found a good deal on stainless threaded rod if anyone would like to convert to stub axles. I needed 16" but had to buy a meter of it.

soliver - 14-4-2018 at 05:57 PM

21 days from today I will be on the SSI beach!.... I must be bad at counting because that math doesnt quite add up from my post a few days ago... anywho... Saturday a week befor JIBE, we hit Saint Simons and I am indeed excited!!!!

hiaguy - 28-4-2018 at 06:10 AM

OK, the countdown clock says: 16 days. 14 days from now I'll be on the highway :wee:
Vacation time approved; wife approved (I think/hope she's coming); rental apartment approved.
Need to check over the gear that's been collecting dust since October.
I'm super excited to meet and ride with all of you. Is it too early to start packing the car?

hiaguy - 28-4-2018 at 06:48 AM

Question for y'all:
Barrows or midis? :dunno: (I'd rather not pack both)

mougl - 28-4-2018 at 08:28 AM

Barrows will work just fine on the beach of JI, it all comes down to personal preference.

hiaguy - 28-4-2018 at 12:11 PM

Great - thanks.
The same can generally be said about Wildwood, but we spend a lot of time above the high tide line and the midis come in handy there. Barrows it is then.

soliver - 28-4-2018 at 08:33 PM

7 days til touchdown on SSI for me!!! ... See some of yall in 14!!!

Howard, on JI, anything above the high tide line is dunes which are protected, so theres really no need For midis.... I bring em just cuz they look cool.

You mean the high speed beer delivery truck?

soliver - 3-5-2018 at 05:08 PM

I am soooo excited!!!

I started loading the car today. In the process I tried on my harness (which I havent worn in a year) and it just barely fits... lets just say I have put on a couple (dozen) pounds.

Forecast looks good for week one on Saint Simons... looks like plenty of opportunities to hit the beach rolling.

The in laws will be keeping the kids a couple times through the week so wifey and I are planning an evening or 2 of tandem riding!

soliver - 4-5-2018 at 08:30 PM

99% loaded up and headed to the Golden Isles at 7:00 am... kinda bummed though cuz I cant find my Garmin GPS

Might have something to do with it having been a full 12 months since I have ridden, but the thing has completely vanished... drat

See yall on the beach!!!

hiaguy - 5-5-2018 at 10:06 AM

Drive safe and send a beach report when you get there.
(It's know it won't be messed up like Wildwood, I'm just getting excited too.)

D Cheek - 5-5-2018 at 10:18 AM

Ahoy mattes,

Soon, we will JIBE our vessels toward the sands of Jekyll Island.

We will unload our skiff's of treasures of nylon, lines and metal for us to accomplish our mission!

This shall be our 11th pillage and plunder!

Are yee all ready for the adventure?

I ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR almost ready, ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR yee?

For one week we all shall be "The Kite Buggy Pirates of JEKYLL ISLAND".

Let the pillage and plunder BEGIN!!!!!

mougl - 5-5-2018 at 11:12 AM

ARRRR! Ye be speakin the truth! Captain Bluebeard will be makin way to that island Monday with plenty of metal and nylon booty in tow.

soliver - 5-5-2018 at 07:43 PM

Got to Saint Simons early this afternoon and it's quite beautiful here weather-wise. We got groceries, spent some time in the pool and headed to the beach late afternoon.... I fine tuned and flew the cr@p out of my Symphony 2.1.4... what a load of fun just to static fly!... can't wait to get my girls into this!!!

Can't report on the JI beach as I'm still 20 minutes north of it, but the SSI beach is great. I'll probs get a sunset session in on Monday and Wednesday here on Saint Simons, hopefully towing wifey in the tandem some!

I'll report as it comes!

It is funny you guys should say this, because I was debating on whether or not to bring it back this year. It distracted me from doing some kiting the last two years. I am also dealing with less room in the car this year. We will see if I can pare down my packing enough to fit it in the car. I would love to bring it again! It definitely gets a great perspective of the buggies when you tape a camera to the top.

3shot - 6-5-2018 at 07:23 PM

Have fun everyone! Me, Amanda, Abigail, and Hannah will miss you all very much. Please take tons of pictures and post them up for us that have to miss this round. Already looking forward to JIBE 2019. Wishing you all safe travels and good winds. Until next time my friends....

Hey Mark,
I'm in Toronto right now enjoying an Iced Cap. I'll also be arriving at Jekyll on Sunday. Does that make me an honorary member of the Ontario crew?

Absolutely Frank! How long you in TO? are you in the actual city or west of it in the suburbs or Mississauga/Oakville etc. Just in case i need help packing kites this week :-)

frankiter - 7-5-2018 at 09:44 AM

Downtown Toronto today and tomorrow, Mississauga on Wednesday. Man, I haven't even had time to check my own kites! Looks like I'll just throw them in the truck and look them over after I get there.

hiaguy - 7-5-2018 at 11:21 AM

Hey Frank,
how far downtown?
I work at the corner of Yonge St and Queens Quay.
Let me know if you want to grab a coffee.

Demoknight - 7-5-2018 at 11:36 AM

Mark are you cutting and working on your buggy or building a new one? That looks like a lot of fresh custom work you did.

frankiter - 7-5-2018 at 12:27 PM

Howard, U2U sent.

I'm just building a rack for transport and Jim likes building so even though he has a nice home made buggy he is totally rebuilding the front end and back end and will use existing rails for now and re-do those later. he wants to have axle adjustment and a some other things worked into the new design.
I'm still bringing the same chameleon buggy

soliver - 7-5-2018 at 06:50 PM

Hey guys... can't wait for y'all to get down here... I had a killer sunset session this evening on Saint Simons... while it was only an hour (7:30 to 8:30) it was so awesome to be back in the saddle again. Not to mention it was my first extended session with the 12m Peak... kinda a shame since I've owned the thing for like 2 years and this is the first time I've used it more than 30 min... killer onshore at around 8-10 mph and just cruuuuuuuisin'.......

The in-laws are keeping the kids for the evening tonight and Wednesday, so (weather permitting) wifey and I are gonna get a bucket of chicken wings from Ingles, picnic dinner on the beach and ride the tandem as long as the sun allows!

Jim, come out if you can make it and I might save you a chicken wing

soliver - 12-5-2018 at 07:49 PM

Touched down on JI today... beautiful as ever!!

If opportunity allows, I may ride tomorrow,... we shall see!

oldben - 13-5-2018 at 05:29 AM

Hey folks

Plan to represent the dark side with my landsailer. Won't be able to make it til Wed. Where is the gathering/staging area. Great Dunes?

Usually we set in from the ramp or stairs by Tortuga JacS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s. There is another put in on the south of the island that is an unmarked beach entrance over the dunes by the south water tower.

oldben - 13-5-2018 at 03:03 PM

Thanks Demonknight!

soliver - 14-5-2018 at 03:13 PM

After a first day of wet riding in the rain, I can say God Bless a Carport!!!

Pretty good first day gang... off to the Turtle center in the morning with the kids and I'll see y'all after lunch!!!
