JIBE 2012 Dates Confirmed May 16-19

acampbell - 16-8-2011 at 03:27 PM

I have heard back from the JIA (Jekyll Island Authority) and we are good to go for 2012.

Dates are Wednesday May 16 through Saturday the 19th.

Tides will be earlier this year for 2012, with low tide at 12:20 pm on Wednesday and progressing to 2:30 pm Saturday.

Once again the Turtle Crawl Triathlon will be on Saturday in the AM but that will be done by the time the beach is usable for us.

As many have found out, a great way to do JIBE and stay close to the action affordably is to rent a house for a week though one of the two local vacation rental agents on the island...

Parker Kaufman

Jekyll Island Realty

If you come with friends or family then this is an affordable way to go. about $1k a week split up with 3-4 bedrooms and many properties are pet-friendly. You save more too because you can throw something on the grill rather than eat out every night.

Start to Book now!
Next year we will be coordinating with the JI Plover Patrol and other naturalists that were alarmed by our shipwreck runs due to hatchlings in the area and we will not be going much past the southern-most boardwalk at the 4H-Center. This still gives us several mile + stretches for fully lit, balls to the wall speed runs with few people on a broad beach. So we are really giving up the sleeves on our vests and making everybody happy. We will come up with some other rally prize.

Web site will be updated soon in September.

More later, thanks

Angus

WOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!

Hell yeah!

mougl - 16-8-2011 at 03:48 PM

Sweet!!!

I'm actually hoping to have moved by then! Come on real estate buyers! Have I got a house for YOU! lol

The plan is to move to Brunswick when the house here sells. Hopefully I'll be able to provide a place to "crash" by the time JIBE comes :)

pokitetrash - 16-8-2011 at 06:32 PM

pbc - 16-8-2011 at 07:17 PM

You scheduled it before I started yearning for it. That hardly seems possible yet it happened. JIBE 2011 was sooo much fun.

Bummer about the Plover Patrol Problems, but we'll have fun just the same.

Woot! Party at Mougl's!

Ive got a hankerin for a tuple parrafins!

PHREERIDER - 17-8-2011 at 06:54 AM

not sure the plover patrol knows the impact ...an unfounded assumption.

actually the area past the 4-H is not that great soft sand , ton of bird Chit, off the wind a bit as well. really only takes out a 1/4 mile or so of space. once you arrive at the "corner" i have always turned back just for point of sail reasons.

glad all is ON! nice job Angus

flyguy0101 - 17-8-2011 at 09:06 AM

Got it on the calendar. Thanks Angus

pokitetrash - 17-8-2011 at 10:26 AM

Still have the Shipwreck Run flags in the Kite Fort! I think one is Franks and one is Todds. I'll save them for you since they are now collectors items!

shehatesmyhobbies - 17-8-2011 at 03:05 PM

If the funds are still there in the spring, I will be there, looks like two weeks or so after WBB. Maybe another kite fort trip! Oh and can't miss the triathlon! Some of the best entertainment without participating! Thanks Chris!

Hope to see all of you again!

acampbell - 17-8-2011 at 03:28 PM

are we there yet???

tridude - 3-12-2011 at 09:24 AM

since we cant run to the ship wreck next year Ive been thinking of a kite triathlon to coincide with the Turle Triathlon................3 kite disciplines i.e, a water body drag around a fixed point (going upwind/if your a water kiter already have to ride toeside, loop transition, a table top, s-pin or rotation required), followed by buggy and land board runs up and down wind around fixed points...............complete the 3 disciplines get the t shirt.................too much, thoughts, other ideas.:o:wow:

mougl - 7-1-2012 at 05:43 PM

is it may yet?

pbc - 7-1-2012 at 09:00 PM

It may be.

I thought the same thing today. I got all excited when I realized it was less then 5 months away. :-)

shehatesmyhobbies - 8-1-2012 at 09:30 AM

Might be missing this years event. Going to be in full gear for WBB and getting ready for opening day for baseball! Maybe some of you guys can come up the following weekend for WBB!

bobalooie57 - 8-1-2012 at 10:29 AM

Hey Rich, I thought WBB was in April?

shehatesmyhobbies - 8-1-2012 at 12:15 PM

Good call Bob, dont know what I was thinking.

acampbell - 8-1-2012 at 02:07 PM

JIBE web site for 2012 will be up this week. Must re-do most maps as new Convention Center will open that weekend May 20 with new road layout and no more detours. A new roundabout in front of the Center will send traffic north, south or to the Center parking lot. Shops are still relocated north as before for now. Their relocation comes next to the shopping village next to the Center.

tridude - 8-1-2012 at 02:34 PM

yeah baby.....................wont be long! Lord willing NFLeech and I will be there!!

acampbell - 11-1-2012 at 03:35 PM

Basic preliminary JIBE Web Site is up for 2012. Map is updated showing new traffic pattern with no more detours (starting next month). The Convention Center will be opening the weekend of JIBE but that will have no effect on the beach.

Registration data will be worked out shortly, as will a lot more details on the web site, but this should get you started.

Remember that there is much to do in our Golden Isles Region for the entire family. If you have any questions or need assistance with travel arrangements, booking, or things to do with the family. etc. , feel free to contact me directly.

shehatesmyhobbies - 11-1-2012 at 04:24 PM

Anybody that is in the region, make the trip, it's worth it! Great group, great beach! Great pizza!

acampbell - 12-1-2012 at 07:00 AM

I should add that anybody traveling with a group, either family or car-pooling with buddies, should consider one of the many affordable vacation rental properties on Jekyll island. Several regular JIBE attendees report that the cost is competitive with several hotel room nights, especially when you factor in the modest cost of groceries to cook in your own kitchen or backyard BBQ grill, compared to the cost of eating out every night. Many are dog-friendly too, so the family pooch can come along rather than incur the cost of boarding. (leashed dogs are welcome on the beach)

Check with Jekyll Island Realty or Parker Kaufman Realty

But if you take this route, BOOK NOW, as they sell out quickly

mougl - 24-1-2012 at 05:22 PM

Put in for vacation time today! If all goes well, I'll be on the beach with a bego in the sky by noon Monday the 14th!

Drewculous - 24-1-2012 at 05:39 PM

Kite fort frat party!

pbc - 8-3-2012 at 08:15 PM

I swore last year I would cut back on my on the length of my JIBE fiesta. You guys are not helping. I'm loosing my resolve to drive after work on Wednesday. I might have to do the Wednesday 8 a.m. departure again.

I suppose I would be nothing short of miserable having to go to work that day knowing the fun had begin without me. I would be unproductive. It would be unfair to my employers. So for their sake I should leave town at sunrise on Wednesday.

Philip

mougl - 8-3-2012 at 08:48 PM

Philip, my friend, Wednesday? Would you not be more productive after returning after a monday arrival? Drew, Sheska, hopefully Angus, and I will be riding Monday afternoon

pbc - 8-3-2012 at 09:06 PM

Wednesday does seem non-committal doesn't it? Why do something only half-way?

combatcamp - 9-3-2012 at 01:03 AM

I'm looking forward to this being my first buggy ride breakin :) I will be coming by myself. Was wondering if there is a Base nearby? any Base with a lodge will do :) or I could just sleep in my truck which now has a camper top :)

mougl - 9-3-2012 at 05:30 AM

Not sure about a base but there is a campground on Jekyll that some of the guys utilize. :)

Nor sure what you mean by a "base" but there are numerous hotel options as specified in the web site. You cannot sleep in your camper in the parking lot; you must use the campground for that option. There will be on camper in the parking lot over nights but that will be for guarding the buggies and that is by special arrangement and permission from the Jekyll Island Authority that administers the island state park.

Reach me if you have any questions or need assistance

tridude - 9-3-2012 at 06:10 AM

think he means military installation............................is the sub base open in St. Marys? Jacksonville NAS would be the closest (don't forget soap on a rope)............... this is an hour or so away form JI and with the $$$ of gas it would probably be cheaper to stay in Brunswick at exit 29................................

pbc - 9-3-2012 at 06:35 AM

Definitely consider the Jekyll Island campground. It's heavily shaded so mornings are cool. Night temps in mid-May are good too.

The only downside at the JI Campground is the no-see-ums can be a bit thirsty. I bring long pants and longs sleeve shirts to combat that.

I'll be reserving my site pretty soon. We usually go for something in the H and F zones.

combatcamp - 9-3-2012 at 01:04 PM

Ok, will def look into the campsite, are vihicles allowed at the site or do I need to rent/purchase a tent and aircondition? Haha

pbc - 9-3-2012 at 08:20 PM

Sleeping in vehicles is allowed. The few unsavory rules they have don't seem to be enforced.

As far as I can tell the only real rule is "don't be an annoying drunk".
