I heart snow

bigben91682 - 8-10-2010 at 02:40 PM

As summer winds down, I can't help but yearn for snow.... (yeah that's right.....yearn)

Is it bad to wax my boards before leaves fall off the trees?? Just to smell the wax?

kteguru - 8-10-2010 at 02:55 PM

I can't wait for the winter myself. Want to get more time on the buggy out on the ice. And of course I'm sure Kitestorm will be fantastic as usual:wee:

Bladerunner - 8-10-2010 at 03:54 PM

Let it snow . Let it snow ! :singing:

Kamikuza - 8-10-2010 at 04:25 PM

Snow? I'm just starting to think about putting socks on ...!

B-Roc - 8-10-2010 at 04:51 PM

I bought new skis for myself last Feb and new skis for my kids last month. As much as I love fall landboarding on empty beaches I can't wait to be shredding on 2-4" of New England snow on a frozen lake. Super edgeable, super fast!

shaggs2riches - 8-10-2010 at 05:27 PM

OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:roll::roll::roll::roll:

So far Kite ATB and Snowkiting are by far my most successful and just itching to try the new to me 12meter speed 2 with my snowboard. Now that I'm more experienced this should make for a very pleasing winter 10 foot+ jumps and open prairies here I come..............well when the snow finally arrives. It was 20c today.:bigok:

snowspider - 11-10-2010 at 06:49 AM

Apparently it is a little early for some , the place in the mall has'nt even hired the guy to work in the ski dept. I'm getting this chomping at the bit feeling!

Houston AirHead - 11-10-2010 at 07:08 AM

I hope Texas gets snow before every one else again.

Hopefull wishing right,

Cheddarhead - 11-10-2010 at 02:25 PM

Absolutely love snow kiting on the frozen lakes here. Nothing but miles of park and ride on the frozen stuff. Can't wait!

Yesterday was still 73 deg F and today 62 F. Still a long ways off.:sniff:

flash - 11-10-2010 at 05:01 PM

it's snowing here.... :) thought I would really salt the old wound... mmmm snow on the peaks... :)

Cheddarhead - 11-10-2010 at 05:19 PM

Flash, your killing me. Mountains and snow to boot. Two things we definitely don't have around here. Need about 10,000 more feet of elevation, that's all. :P

shehatesmyhobbies - 11-10-2010 at 06:09 PM

I live in the good old flat land of DE and I will be giving my skis the first run with the kite this winter! We had too much snow last year. I have two sets of the Ski Boards, I loved them in the Pocono's, can't wait to try them with the kite!

flash - 12-10-2010 at 07:01 AM

a few more inches in the high country today..... you know you guys are always welcome to come play and stay at my place. Then again, this winter, I will most likely be on the road on the weekends for the snowkite tour :)

stevensaero - 12-10-2010 at 09:03 PM

Shoot, all we got out of that last cold front was a bit of rain and a dusting on the peak.... soon enough though... First freeze is tonight... Can smell winter in the air.

kiteline - 12-10-2010 at 09:17 PM

I have to confess, I got a new snowboard in August...I might have a problem.

No Problem. Blow out sales are starting up. You can find some bindings for that board soon! :wee:

macboy - 14-10-2010 at 12:45 AM

Of course if precipitation is your only issue:

Snow gun

Made this right at the end of the season and barely got to test it but it shows promise. Kinda pumped to see if it works. Now to cover our soccer fields? Not likely but if things get desperate.....

flash - 14-10-2010 at 09:02 AM

I know it's an old one... but nothing like

to get you psyched for the season. I have made my friends include the snowkite films in our ski-porn nights. :)

We had so much fun at that park in QA county this past year - I can't imagine we'll get that much snow again but one can wish!

ragden - 14-10-2010 at 10:05 AM

That field was a lot of fun. Would be amazing if we get that kind of snow again... :)

bobalooie57 - 14-10-2010 at 10:16 AM

Great vid Flash, way to feed the stoke! I spent two afternoons, three years ago at the first Tug Hill Snowkite Festival, standing with my mouth agape, probably drooling, hard to tell, the breath freezes in my stash/beard any way. Thats what drew me into this weird addiction. I know I'll never be as good as that, but I keep trying anyway!:wee:

ragden - 14-10-2010 at 11:22 AM

Bobo-
Considering how close you are to one of the greatest snowkiting locations on the East Coast, I would think you could progress quickly due to the sheer number of sessions you can get in while the rest of us live through you vicariously. All you need to do is get out there and do it.

flash - 14-10-2010 at 05:17 PM

3 inches at my condo in the high country.... it's coming and dumping! and yet an hour and a half drive away at my house on the front range - 75 Deg and sunny.

bobalooie57 - 15-10-2010 at 06:07 AM

@ ragden, ya, I know I should progress faster, but the truth is, I don't get out as much as you would think. I think you know, the closest other kiter I know is in Clayton, so we only meet up on weekends. Kind of leery of going solo at this point, though I do have a spot close to home that I brave alone, but the wind is not always best there. I've got a bunch of other spots I need to stop and talk to the farmer's about, but it always turns into a discussion of "what's in it for me?" from the farmer, and for the most part I can't blame them. So, I guess slow and steady is the key. Hey, at least I'll be there for the laugh factor...;)

kiteyakker - 16-10-2010 at 07:11 AM

Hey Gang, I 've been pretty much away from the forum all summer as i don't do much kiting other than snowkiting. I will go out and do the occasional static flight just for something different. Paddling is my main thing during the offseason. Its been a really mild fall for Northern MN but this morning when i stepped outside the temp was barely 40° and wind was blowing big time, probably low 20's. It really got me in the mood for snow and winter. Most people that live around here would think im nuts for saying that, but I can't wait to get back on Lake of the Woods and just rip for miles, or even just on a nice smooth bluegrass field got one just a couple miles from here, west to southwest winds....heaven.

I definately am in need of a kite fix!!

Oh yeah, i think this is also gonna be the season that i make my first trip to the mountains to kite, Im ready!! (or least i think i am)

canuck - 16-10-2010 at 08:12 AM

It snowed all morning yesterday in Calgary :tumble: but the ground is still too warm for any to accumulate :thumbdown:. Typical October - 75F on Thursday, snow Friday with a high of 42F and gusty north winds.

Won't be long now....

I was really honestly green with envy for you guys when I heard that the fluffy stuff was falling. Down here in Lloyd all there was Cool and 50km/h gusts. Blew me off the road yesterday while riding the bike onsite at work; either it was, fall into the ditch or roll down and ride half downwind to stay riding:smilegrin:

flyboy15 - 16-10-2010 at 09:50 PM

Snow makes the unrideably rough lands of the Midwest into the largest playground the US may have to offer. Fields without trees, powerlines, buildings, fences, anything all the way to the horizon. Its like what the great flood would have been to a kiteboarder. In just a few months the ND/MN landscape will be punctuated by the distant red dot that is my Ranger 12.

Snow + Wind = Happiness.

On the above list, the date for Kitestorm has been changed. It has been moved forward 1 week to Feb 26-27.

Flash, I don't know where you got the event list, but could you post the date change where you found it.

OOPS! your right, sorry I didn't post the correction, this is my old list. Let me double check with Trish and Monty on kite Solider too.

flash - 21-10-2010 at 06:58 AM

guess what.... 8-9 inches of the white stuff predicted in the Telluride/Durango area today.... It might not be my backyard but it is close enough for me to be giddy.

Oh did I tell everyone that I found a pair of perfect condition demo-fatties fully mounted and for sale? I am looking for someone to be an early santa clause, or my sugar daddy.... takers?

lol

bobalooie57 - 21-10-2010 at 07:06 AM

Thanks for finding out! I am just confirming what you are saying. Kite Soldier is Feb 24-27!

flash - 24-10-2010 at 08:04 PM

That's what Trisha (of snowkite solider) said on Friday in the call. She has to confirm that with Monty about the start date, it might actually start the 23rd or the 25th, but I believe the gist is that weekend. They had to move some things around. Now this is the projected date, they are applying for the permit, so... there is a tiny tiny tiny chance the date might change, but unlikely.

Oh and all snowkiters... we are still looking for input on the idea of a North America Snowkite Tour. all feedback is appreciated. :) You can either post here and I will pass it along, or go to www.americansnowkiteassociation.org and post on the forum.

oh and on my list above it says the championship is in alaska... nope.. no championship place set yet. Hope to know where and when by nov 2nd. All event dates should be finalized by then too. :)

stetson05 - 24-10-2010 at 09:47 PM

so cool of you Flash to fuel our snowkiting interest. Once they get the permit, thus have a firm date, I will try and get a group to go. Thanks for helping

flash - 1-11-2010 at 05:47 AM

to add fuel to the fire, I just picked up a sweet pair of Volkl Gatama Fatties for this winter...... and the wind has been RIPPING here....

flyboy15 - 10-11-2010 at 07:37 AM

Hey Guys, just want to confirm the dates for snowkite soldier....
