Anytime you get more than one buggy going... there's always the unofficial fun race down the beach and back.

My only concern with trying to bring local races to our area... would be land usage. We buggy on a public beach, and to cone off an area or otherwise try to block off an area for a race might start to raise eyebrows with people. Seems the more "official" something gets... the more people start to hold out their hand. Permits? Safety? etc etc etc...

So I'll stick to just having fun here, but think racing could be a great thing in the right places.

Just a little update since there are replys to this thread. (really didn't expect any, so I never checked)

As of today Jan 30, 2008 there are 72 registered pilots with NAPKRA.
16 from Canada
15 from Mexico
41 from the US

Insurance is in the works, we have two options and are deciding on which one is the best value. Many other areas are still being worked on. Resources section will have instructions on how to run races for most conditions and # of attendees among many things that are already there. The rules are much easyer to read. Much of this achieved in a very short time by many pulling together to help. (too many names too list)

We already have feedback from our Mexican pilots of a place that is well AWESOME and HUGE!!! South of Texas and if I am correct quite possibly within the subtropical area which means TRADE WINDS. The video I have seen is a local TV?? production with helicopter shots and the area is mostly sand (I think) and the buggy shots show smooth wind from what I could tell. The area is close to the Gulf. We are already talking about a spring trip for 2009.

So if you are interested in NAPKRA then just go to www.napkra.org and look around. If you would like to see the whole forum then just sign up! Ask questions, contribute or just lurk.

Our first training race is January 16 & 17 at Seaside, OR. Weather permitting!

The spot in those videos in Mexico is about a 14 hour ride (including an hour for crossing the border) from Houston. I have friends with family in Monterrey, and that is where they go when they hit the beach.

Great area to kiteboard, buggy, land sail... and just have fun. My friends recommended four wheel drive, and get out before it rains or stay in certain spots. But said it's a nice area, more of a small fishing town, with a very very very nice beach.

I can't make NABX due to work issues. As long as it's the first week of April, about the only way I can ever make it is to quit my job... but this place is closer, on the water, and looks like it has LOTS of open area.

Anyone else interested in making a late March or mid April camping trip in '08 instead of '09???

ooooooooo.......Mexico instead in '08. And you'd be going in March. hmmm.....that sounds RAD.

The First series of Races are Feb 16th-17th. Just about three weeks out. RipSessions Kiting Sent Prizes, I''ve donated a kite and some other goodies.

If any other retailers/wholesalers would like to donate prizes to the club, they don't have to be donated in time for the Feb race. We will create a 'bank of prizes' so that we are ready to ship em out to future events.

i have to read this and napkra now too. j/k =)

as of yet right now
we have event insurance
nothing is planned for right now, as everyone here in BC is geared up for NABX. some who arent attending NABX, will probably head to the Sunset Beach event on Feb. so hopefully not all the American Racers win all the prizes I've sent down. (i'm hoping Eli-US26 doesnt win that Lime Green Hummer - NAPKRA inside joke)
Hopefully a larger group of BC than last year will be present at NABX. 2008 will be bigger year since we just had 4 new buggiers / some oldies coming back.

As for future events in BC, we'll have to leave that up to our NAPKRA #11 rep, which we are voting for now. It takes time, but check back on NAPKRA there, since that's where the racing is. If you plan on hosting an event NAPKRA Committee is always here to help.

Personally, I have a few events that I'm setting up right now. White Rock has its annual Regatta which I'm working with the Orginizers (BCKA), and have some sort of racing there. Cresent Beach Lifeguards phones me annually as well to have their "Beach Day", which they want buggiers/boarders to come. Depending on our Spring/Summer access to the SOD Farm is another event location. City Richmond and PKC are working together. Lots to come in 2008 season.

Not to forget the ROAD TRIP to MEXICO.

Side Note: I think NAPKRA should make a Female Racing League, ie B.O.O.B.S. In BC we have 4-5 female buggiers.

In 44 days the membership has grown to 91 pilots. Please take a look and let your vote guide this club. There is insurance for events and membership is free. There will be training for the new pilots, to the race tips for the pros, to gatherings just for fun. One of the benefits of this club is to unite us, like the Sierra Club, horse clubs, fishing clubs, etc that use their strength for the good of their membership. Our sport needs your help, whether you are a racer or a cruiser, together we can help protect and grow our sport.

Club #10 Update

Just a quick note:

Club #10 started at 10 a.m.
An Overtaking VS. Crossing Q&A started the day. Jon Ellis Demonstrated light wind techniques with his 16m RM+.

Reps and pilots with banners and big single lines kites have the beach looking very festive!!! Can't wait to release the pics....

Discover Paragliding is on scene and looking forward to clear skies for tandem tows...

KBSS is tuning buggies and looking over Mods.

Bison has been super helpful clearifying general guidlines for race rules.

The tide is on the way out...and the wind is picking up

Good time and good vibes.

Several of the NAPKRA guys from Mexico will be at La Pesca June 13th to 15th. I should be able to go as well. Would be nice to have some more US buggier's make the trip.

Smooth highways and easy to find... nice hotels and a killer buggy spot. Anyone else have their passport ready and want to use it?
