GLX - Thanks forthe beach update. Forecast and tide looked like it would be a sweet day, to bad I could not make it up. Sounds like there is a story about your arm. Hope you heal quick and I look forward to riding with you again when you return!

Mood: I need some more buggying!

Not kite related.
Downhill skiing in Western Mass decided that I was not going fast enough standing up because of wind resistance. Started crouching and adding a few more mph, until an epic crash followed and ended up with an extra bone sticking up on my left wrist.
Lesson to be learned you dont bounce up like you are 20 when you start getting older. ;)
No kitting for at least a couple more months, and more importantly missing on all the fun at WBB this spring. :(

I'm jealous. I was up in the area dropping my son off at Endicott. Had that not been the case I would've joined you.

How did Nahant look today? I went there last week Sunday morning and there was seaweed and algae all over the beach.

I finally got to ride at a local beach. I've never lived anywhere I could drive to a beach to Buggy in a few hours. I ride at Grand Isle south of New Orleans. Just over from Port Fourchon where the helicopters take the oil rig workers to work from. Wind never seems to match the forecast and is always more down the beach than onshore. But I put in about 12 miles and maybe 200 turns. A handful of times I had enough wind and angle to get a half mile run down the beach if I worked the kite. I'm going to try a few other beaches next time opportunity rises.

Guys. My name is Matt and I'm a Boston Area kiter. I recently made a commitment to completely switch to foil kites and bought a quiver of FS Souls. It's a bit intimidating and I'm wondering if anyone is available for hire to walk through some of the basics. I generally hydrofoil in Duxbury but I live West of the city. Happy to travel to Nahant or pb. I'm mostly unsure if I've set up kites correctly and have some questions about solo landing and launching tips since I ride solo a lot. I requested some help on Kiteforum and a member was kind enough to suggest I reach out to this generous group. Cheers. Matt.

Hi Matt. Most of the Nahant group are Fixed Bridal fliers(use 2 handles instead of depower/bar control)...so we won't be of much help. There are a lot of kite surfers here who may be able to help when they are around setting up..but most use LEI single skins.

On- shores s'more!

Four of us showed up to fly and ride for a super nice on'shore day. Winds barely broke single digits. ..so we had our biggest kites out.

Paul killed it with his 8.5 Blade... holding a lot of power. I had a 6.4 Blade and Peter had a PKD 6m Combat. Brian on Depower with a Gin Eskimo 14m.

Beach looked great. Did anyone get a chance to talk to anyone from the DCR about their recent restrictions on the beach. New management, new opinions, misunderstanding?

Dan talked to a DCR on site staff person. He needs to talk to the manager, because local staff will be kicking us off beach..

The Plover bird situation has expanded it's area and is one impetus towards restricting us.

What a bunch of BS. Has anyone seen a plover there in the off season? They don't even start shutting Cape beaches down until late June or July. I love animals and baby plovers are super cute but the whole plover thing is ridiculous. How endangered can the bird really be when it shuts down every beach in the state because of nest sites. And maybe the DCR should do a little research. I believe I read in Cape Cod reports that plovers do worse in restricted beaches because real efficient killers like foxes and coyotes and raptors wipe them out when we aren't around. O and the most successful breed sites on the Cape have been the Eastham dump and the Orleans Stop and Shop dumpster area. But that doesn't fit the narrative so the beaches remain shut.

Actually the bird issue doesn't matter. If there were no birds, It's the idea that they see a something on wheels going fast down the beach with lines in the air as inherently dangerous.

BTW... the District manager has not told Dan we cannot Buggy with kites. But the staff is going by 'the book, or at least some are.

In the mean time keep showing up to ride. Dan will do what he can.

Nobody patrolling and no one kicked me and Paul off Today. Beach was empty.

On-shores today with unusually high winds about 25mph, and fairly steady as typical for on-shores.

Howdy B-Roc.

Power kite season at Nahant has 'officially' begun.

No DCR around...free parking.

I was there again this afternoon and had excellent wind( speed and direction). A nice 68 degree temp and good surface conditions(and no red algae except near rotary.

I'll be lurking there till the ice forms and then I'll be on the 'Q' or the 'W'(the other Walden Pond 4 mi from Nahant).

Nahant P'Kite season overlaps Ice season, so it's just really the beginning of an 8-month 'busy' season for riding on Asphalt ,sand, snow and ice.

Get it while you can..Right, J-Rock?...
