I'll have to crank the oven into high gear with wbb right around the corner!

Was super awesome to meet up with abkayak - he even picked me up from the subway! Was definitely a BDE on my part. Beach was big and mostly empty (except for the distracting swimsuit shoot 100 yards away), wind started out perfect and got stronger within a couple hours, I got to play with my new Charger in decent wind, got to Superman and twist the kite just as I was thinking "hey, I'm getting good at this" (yes, that really happened), got to fly one of abkayaS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s 4 line 3m kites - holy cow that's some pull! Now I should be working all night to make up for playing hookey, but instead going down the street to see Broken Social Scene...

Thanks again abkayak, was great meeting you!

I'll let abkayak answer that one... On the surf forum I'm on, there's a policy to never reveal a spot - which is pretty hilarious considering there's cameras on every beach.

Can I assume that asinine rule doesn't apply here and we all share locations, or is it all hush hush? Thinking about it, you probably don't want me at your beach... :D

About time to add to this thread!
So after a bit of a work/wind hiatus, got back on the beach yesterday. Was about 6 kts, which was absolutely perfect for testing a couple of my newest best friends... an Eskimo 14.5m and a Pansh Flux 5m.

The Eskimo is a friggin blimp! After a bit of center line tugging, it shot straight up to zenith, and never wanted to come down. And holy heck does it pull! I scudded in a fairly straight line for 30 yards, and could have kept going but I was getting too far away from my stuff! Big, slow, powerful and predictable... I think I like it! Not too sure how much use I'll get out of it, but high pressure/lighter wind usually follows snowstorms here, so it will hopefully come in handy.

Eskimo 14.5m in action (did the best I could 1 handed!):

Meanwhile, abkayak popped out for a bit (nice surprise) and jumped on the Flux. I had ordered it sort of accidentally on purpose one late work night (they make you add items to the cart to see actual prices and it was so low I was like... sure, I'll get that), and completely forgot until it showed up at my office a few days ago. Don't love the handles - very basic, not much padding - but ultimately serviceable. The kite seems really nicely put together, and flies well, though I think it needs just a bit more wind to truly shine. Very easy to control and well behaved. Was easy to turn, launch, land and reverse launch (look how far I've come!). I couldn't get enough power to scud in 6 kts but it felt like it really wanted to. I was able to get my board moving a bit, but then the wind died down. Abkayak felt (and I agree) it would be a really nice buggy kite. Great to see you again abkayak!

Yesterday met up with abkayak again - was an absolutely perfect day for me. I haven't been getting out enough, and the couple times I have, it's either been too light, or too heavy - so I'm seriously rusty. Yesterday was south, about 10-15. I finally got a chance to try the Gin Eskimo 8.5m... what a great kite. Took me a little while to get back into the swing of things, get used to the new kite and get used to my ATB again. I haven't had a decent ride on my ATB in months... probably since I was riding at Floyd Bennett. So to say I looked like a kook on the thing yesterday is an understatement. But I was super happy to have the right conditions to get back in shape - made a few hundred yards and back a couple times (with lots of starts and stops in between). I need a couple more days like this, but it's pretty rare that the wind, tide and time all line up perfectly. A big beach that takes any wind direction would be amazing right about now...

abkayak was on a 7.5 Apex and his ATB, and of course buzzing around like a pro. We switched kites after a while... Apex controls completely differently, so spent a bunch of time trying to get used to it (was same for abkayak - but once he figured out the Eskimo, he was off and running). By this time, the wind was dying down, so time to pack it all up. The one kite I didn't take out of my car was the 14m Eskimo, which was too bad. Abkayak would have had a great time on it. Conditions were a little too light for his liking.

Best kite day in a long time. I have to assume Hagen Daz was on sale again...
