I am bringing my little electric truck again this year, but I have fitted it with an FPV system now so I can drive it using a live camera and should be able to get much better chase videos of some of you guys buggying along. 3Shot's avatar was actually filmed from the truck. It gets a great perspective from nice and low that looks great and gives a good sense of speed.

Definitely good stuff Errol! You had some amazing footage. So you can pilot the RC with a VR headset now?

Errol's new system is trick. He's got the VR headset that alternately projects the real world view and the car's view. Along with that he got the mind-control module that allows him to steer the car just by thinking about where it should go. This allows him to buggy while he drives the RC car.

What could possibly go wrong???

Yep. It is basically a drone on wheels. The problem last year was that I could follow you guys a bit, but when you get farther away, depth perception is a lot harder and I don't want to get too close or risk collision or getting the very expensive truck run over. Now I can see what the truck sees, and should be able to frame shots better for the actual camera that I record with on top. I took the FPV setup to the family beach trip last year, and it is so much fun driving around in the truck. The video signal actually reaches a lot farther than the control signal, so I can easily see where I am driving right up until I lose control of the truck and it goes into failsafe mode and stops.

Wow, JIBE 10 ! This will be #5 for me. Hopefully all my surgeries will be healed up and I'll be like a new man when I get there. Planning to leave Friday night, a 3 1/2 hour drive, camp free at the "Flying J" and be on the beach Sat. morning waiting for low tide.

I've been on the drawing board working up an "JIBE 10" anniversary design. Got to glorify ten great years that Angus has put on this event for us and what it means to our sport.

I have a new color, "heather granite" cool blend shirt in mind.
But I want to know what you all think about a high viz colors. Orange, yellow green,
florescent green and hot pink?

What say you all? I could take special orders if anyone wants one.

I agree that high viz isn't high on my list of desires. What I do like is a really thick, high quality fabric, like a Beefy T.

Heather Granite sounds like a great color.

By the way, what about mosquitos? Is May too early for them?

Will it be shorts and t shirt weather?

Never too early for mosquitoes, but worse are the sand gnats, aka "no-see-ums". Mosquitoes poke at you with sipping straws but gnats rip your flesh with tiny chain saws. Bugs are out now on warm days with low wind and are a possibility for JIBE. Any day with modest wind will keep them away on the beach but they can be a nuisance off beach with no wind. We can put a bug bomb on Errol's truck and he can fog the place.

Figure temps in the 80's F (about 30 C for y'all) so shorts and t-shirts are in, just watch the sun, which is reflected on the beach just like on snow. Bring sun-block in SPF 30. I will have cold water on the beach for all.

What is this "sun" you speak of? I've heard that such a thing exists outside of London.

OK, I agree with the idea of a shirt you can wear other times and places.

Here in South (redneck) Carolina current fashion trends as seen at the local Wal Mart are Camo and High Viz that dominate what we might call "normal" apparel. I thought it was a fad at first but now several years later it's now part of the fashion culture for less sophisticated people and their kids.
We sell a lot of this in my store.

The heather granite is a new color for this year. It's a Guilden 50/50 "Ultra Cotton", a nice weight. Popular style washes well.

The other idea for the the 10th anniversary shirt is a good ole hippy "Tie Dye".
100% cotton, pre shrunk, color set so they don't bleed and are color fast.

Any comment here?

Good call on the shirt colors Davis. I liked the rustic muted tones of recent shirts. In fact I saw a complete stranger wearing last year's blue shirt in a local WalMart ( I swear I was just there on business). Not sure where he got it. But anyway...

We get a lot of folks with high viz shirts ( or looking for) because they work at the local seaport or other high traffic industrial areas. At Lowes we also had local sportsmen asking for camo gear and we would just say "yeah we have camo stuff but it works real good so we can never find it".

I like the idea of the Heather Granite.

Frank, do you honestly believe that Angus was really at WalMart for business? Probably getting a copy of "The Jerry Cans" latest release. Great music to tap dance too.

I'm glad that you saw a copy of last years shirt in the local area. I did sell a few shirts to passer bys. They thought the sport was "neat" and wanted to support the cause by the purchase of a souvenir. A kite buggy and the words Jekyll Island with a date. Not your run of the mill island shirt but all the elements were there. Never know, he just might show up with a quiver and a ride to join us.

BTW.... "The Jerry Cans" album is off the chain!!! What planet are those people from?
Angus, love your taste in music!

Wow, Iqaluit - that brings back memories. It was a hot sticky day early April 2002 when Jim Everding and I boarded a plane in Vegas to head home after Spring Break Buggy Blast. Flew home to Ontario to the warmest few days in early April ever. Unloaded the buggy gear and shook the dust out, loaded kites and skis and snowboards and a lot of warm clothes and headed to Ottawa to meet Brian Smith (Active People), Claude Gravel and few other friends. We were wearing shorts and t-shirts in an unheard of 26 Celsius to catch a plane up to Iqaluit. The plane was delayed because of a storm. We flew up and with windchill of -50 c it was the most extreme temperature change over a few days and the coldest I had ever felt - ice on our faces running from the plane to the terminal. But it was a fantastic adventure....but a whole other story - Jekyll Island is a hell of a lot warmer

photos - Claude and I setting up out on the ice pack. Me on the hill outside Iqaluit, the town and local transit

I went "Eskimo" all Saturday and Sunday.
That's the direct opposite of commando.
