fresh 2015 RPM 12m by SS

Totally fresh in the plastic, 2015 RPM 12m and 23m lined 20" Compstick featuring the pulleyless bridle. the go to unit and size for here with current and 15-25mph sweet spot.

tough build top to bottom. I love the lines and bar ,

the center lines safety is fine, but twist thing ... it adds stress to the line, within 20 minutes its wound tight.. can't work with that i dropped the 2012 version and added saftey at swivel with a proper stop.

data on the scene .

http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboa...

the spot,
a falling tide and offshore W (not the look you want but, fresh goods and decent gust made short work of it). the big gust would put me back up in a nice rotation from 1:30 til 5. things turn WNW and turned to crap despite the arrival of low tide at 5/6. had to wait on the gust bus a few times but normal for the spot.

12m for my 200# and TT 142 misfit SS and a couple laps with sweet potato surf board 6' quad.

the bar has the magic weighty feel with all day grip comfort no real change from old but has decent size depower hole thru thebar for loaded hard direction. safety ends pulls are present and seemingly same as old it is a wear point at OS pull ring, the metal abraids it , will add plastic at chaff point.

the lines that come on the comp bar are just the best. big beefy fronts, best on the market and thess are at 23m.

comp stick has below bar trim and actually workable. tidy push away safety , and thru CL safety hook as well...the twist!

Canopy is thick on TE, and it has this panel on the wing tip not sure on function/enhancement , but can be felt at the bar when pull in slowly, high frequency vibration, i'm sure its special, anyway, nicely padded LE with big caliber pump fill. AND no pulleys , which has been replaced with a small heavy bungee connection. it works and i'm fine with that. i use the freestyle connection and 2nd from the end bar pressure.

up wind like mad when you wanted it, ran about 50% trimmed in.

amazingly powerful pop and fast, quick snap loops. send that joker back deep at speed BOOM!

totally welcomed the gust! and data represents the range it best fits into flat/light chop.

unit works well on land with ATB , you just have to run at higher speeds for the magic pop to happen. i really only use this kite for water, it will just last longer that way.

impressive

with the out going tide i need it all. the compstick has had some improvements the center hole does not have the laminated plastic bits so its all solid and should be kind to the depower line. hopefully. the lines are stout , may old set with 1000's of hours on them still looks good. they old rpm was tearing appart ...but lines remain.

pass 3 days scored a solid 10 hours on this fresh unit ...only issue is the swivel sticcks a bit and the safety center twist.

a little larger arc shape than the 2012 and fraction larger , 2012 12m was (11.5m) 2015 certainly more , like 12.5 maybe .

data on today 12-5pm

http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboa...

we are frontside with side to side on with a falling tide

full on sweeet spot for this 12m

and said unit in action and yours truly

the yellow may have to go , esp. the arrows.

heres a look at the arc shape

damn , depower line breaks! about a mile out !

only about 25hours on it, i knew it would go but man I checked when i set up and thought it still looked good! and an hour later it snaps.

pics soon.

so the old 2012 comes out to finish the next hour, but a nice comparison back to back.

the 2015 definitely has early firing lift and more lift in general. the 2012 a tiny fraction slower and somehow softer at bar not quite as direct but close. on upwind POS pinching hard , the 2015 has destinct ultra peak power location at bout 60 degrees or so up the window and the 2012 has it some but vague location, actually more pinch power lower in the window. just remember the 2012 is an amazing unit without a doubt , but very destinctive improvements in this kite development, impressed with that fo sho! but the busted depower line is kind of a downer on the bar/line interaction ...and i was watching it! no casing/core warning , all snap.

5-20-2015 to 6-8-2015 < 25 hours depower line snaps( guess we'll see how this goes) early in the kites life for failure.

this may get painfully old

kite dropped to safety instantly, so i reeled to kite , and sail float in laying on board. pretty decent wind so i zoomed in fairly quick once sorted and moving. nice life guard patrol ran me back to launch spot once i was in, which was sweet indeed! so i was still fresh for more thats when i put up the old 12m

right back to it next day and today!

the the loop and release are slight different , the new one has more screws . the 2012 was nice single piece cast unit. not sure why ...the clamcleat is better and its a seperate piece as well. the release cover on the old is tough even going into a blown out center . we see.

the twist on the safety requires attention about every 30 min to unclip leash esp. after running down the line about a mile , the swivel is ratchety stiff and requires some kick around attention sometimes, but minor in general.

thanks man

jet ramping , the misfit 142 defacing one wave,

thats TYBEE island, GA in the background

Looks awesome. That's surprising about the depow line. It looks like depow lines on lei rigs are way beefier than my peak. My peaks depow line looks frayed and ready to go anytime but somehow hangs on

the 2 pc. anchor within CL and lines with about 30 hours on them and obvious shredding...note line twist at center line safety in image as well

original bar / same lines as above

original bar with high exit lip

bar mod , top lip has been reduced and chamfered away from center

bar mod top veiw

and the center line safety CSS twist

wow blasting session today! the roughest frontside water on a SW ...like 4- 6 foot chop ! top all whited out and ragged.

with full intentions of tuning in DLX FS 12m after first warm up on the 12m RPM i would switch the speed 3 . first leg out start about 3 and get back about 5:30 way over powered! , straight to my 9m and within and hour over powered on that! then wrapped about 7pm

think the meter may have been jacked! a tybee rhodes bouy would have fantastic data , no luck on that yet

heres regular spot i use. some moss may have hit it or something
http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboa...

into galescape!

heres a close meter but we are 15 miles closer to the wicked cell flyby. but has same with decent peaks

at the 90 hour mark with this unit, bar mod has proven worthy, depower line in riding without complaint, most recent session yesterday , the comfortable high end of the range for this unit. A 9m could have easily pulled this session, but as tide pushed back in i needed the extra near the finish.

heres a look at data 4-7pm , pretty decent peak making for nuclear boost and loops , all this mixed with 4-6ft+ rollers and obscene amount of megachop which fuels the boostphest to practically no end.

heres a looking at SS depower line replication , and the set up at the bottom the old line, a new line , and 2 Amsteel marked and ready to go....oh and a fresh FS depower with the left over from the remaing 20ft section, its fraction thicker than stock i think 5/16" and stock is 5/6mm.

taper end marks

the finished ends , the OME from SS has the stitching, most advise the stitching adds nothing to strength and i agree, but it does keep the set up in place while slack , so i did add the stitching in same manner and tension.

i have a FS mixer, front leader set done as well in 3/8" (or i think they are 4mm) Amsteel .

anyway PHUN with Amsteel!

unit has about 110hours on it now and only one real glitch happened just a few days ago, gonna give SS another 24 hours to respond so the story is straight. or at least what role they play in it. definitely suprised me...kinda already repaired it and keep things rolling, time for shipping and lame crap like that is time wasted

ok last week packing this unit up I noticed seam ripped open on the under side of the LE , roughly 5" in length. there was no bladder herniation or rupture there, but HUGE disappointment , go to image...

no crashes or violent endings or things like that. just at the end of the session air goes out as i'm rolling it up I see this. blown away as to WTF is going on!

so right to pics and reflexive repair ASAP. and AND as I open it up I notice the next seam joint on the LE toward center its pulled and hinting of separation as well. I fix it . and session on. TOTALLY PISSED....perfect time for warranty! right ?

the first NEW KITE I lay down cash for is jacked 100 hours out of the gate. yep....ok SS promises to show up when junk goes lame within 1 yr. warranty.

if I jammed and busted it, I"M OWNING IT. but its not the case.

...and the 30 min repair ain't the problem...

wheres warranty SS?, NOW IS YOUR TIME!

here we got second issue , as far as failure point, it is in the interseam, not within material failure as on split/rip in first pic.

its position on the kite is a joint section closer to center, on under side of LE

SS is giving me the "oh now that you fixed it there's nothing we can do "

can u believe that load!

bomb proof !?! what a joke , maybe a firecracker.

SO i have a new kite thats jacked, through no fault of my own, thats now freshly repaired.

i'm so pissed about this, not about the kite , not about the repair...

the hollow promise of help ...

things have not changed depsite buying BRAND NEW KITE, thats now splitting open, and now has a repair/s within 90 days of service.

what a lame, weak AZZ warranty load they got going. they are already to pass on helping the product out.

well, I will NEVER BUY A NEW KITE EVER AGAIN. ESP. SLINGSHOT

wow this could get tedious ...105 pics and only the first week ...

producing what represents a good or great product is easy and backing it up is just as easy. ...apparently the promise of warranty and its application is in need of remediation.

and to the benefit of the community here , indeed a tedious dissection of panel measurements, stitch placement, backing placement and all that cool stuff under the unfortunate situation of premature failure of this unit...that is not under warranty.

so WHERE'S THE WARRANTY SLINGSHOT may get old, but i'll keep it phresh, PROMISE!

Man that's a bummer with a brand new unit. You have done a lot to kite and bar already. If your fixing constantly than there isn't much point of brand new it doesn't appear.

How did you splice depow line? Brummel lock or just fed through itself and stitched?

slingshot warranty is a crap load. this RPM is a lemon and at this point SS still failing at coverage on product as promised.

very sad. i will never buy a new SLINGSHOT kite, did i mention that?

the depower line/bar is a personal choice there. that is a long bury splice without a brummel lock, but i did stitch it.

the fact that the SLINGSHOT kite is now splitting apart and they as of yet to indicate any interest in replacement is totally weak, but hey time may change that. LE panel may have been stitched short and produced a tight stress section within LE panel...hmmm.

thanks for tuning in , despite me going thru an angry patch about ,what up to this point, the absent support SLINGSHOT has but i am learning what SLINGSHOT is teaching me about new ... new has been redefined as "SOON TO BE REPAIRED GARBAGE" from slingshot, but i guess up to this point thats where we are at folks....time and pressure spit this one out quick!

more exciting elements to come! as it breaks down(oh expectations are low now) i will continue to learn and share my experience , and repair it! at least... til the warranty period is over or perhaps longer, it only seems fair.
