Midwestern kite flyers

Hey there!

So I've been flying a 3m prism tensor static for several years in the northeastern Indiana area. I recently picked up a MBS comp 26 mountain board from Smeagol and have been trying to get moving on it with a 5m Ozone flow that I got from him as well.

I would really love to try out different kites possibly a buggy as well as getting some tips from a more experienced rider!

Anyone willing to help a newb out?!

I'd recommend you come visit me in Chicago, but its getting pretty warm outside so people are starting to crowd me out of the beach. I could put you under pretty much any type of kite you might want to try though. I have a few fixed bridle foils, an arc, a friend with a few depower foils, and a nice buggy. Not to mention my beach is about as good as it gets for kiting away from coastal waters.

That would be fantastic!

I would really like to try out some depowers and arcs as I am hoping to pick one up in the somewhat near future and would like to find what works best for me. This winter I hope to hop on my skis and get moving on those as well.

If you plan to consider arcs then getting sometime on one ahead will be a HUGE advantage.

Having somebody demonstrate the tricks to ground handling will save you a ton of agro' should you choose that route.

As far as my what I'm considering for my next purchase and what route to take I'm really not sure what my next step should be.

Right now I am flying on handles only. I can fly on a bar but I don't like the lack of brake control. I have a harness that I'd really like to use more, but I'm a bit at woe to use a strop and fly hooked in with no safety. Come winter I would like to hop on my skis as well.
I've been considering an Ozone turbo bar to fly my current FB on my harness.
On the other hand I've also been looking at depower and arcs esp. for the wind range (I'm inland so wind can vary quite a bit over a short period of time).

If I had more $$$ I'd love to just buy away, unfortunately I must resist the kite bug and narrow my next purchase down a bit..... :P

@demoknight
What area of Lake Michigan is your spot on? Just curious for the sake of drive time.
I saw you have an 8m toxic and a turbo bar for sale and I would love to try the turbo bar out with the possibility of purchasing it (see above).

I live in the Lakeview area of Chicago. You are welcome to come fly with me but I definitely recommend making a little weekend of it since the nice weather has started to crowd my beach with bathing suits. I normally do my summer flying at night because my beach has a few spot lights that make it easy to see. I have a futon, a comfy couch, and an air mattress :) turbo bar is a good deal at $125 but even better if bought with a nice light wind kite like the big toxic for $500 together!

As good as that deal is I may not be able to pass this deal up http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=28549

Id still probably consider the turbo bar though. But a bug and RTF depower for $450 within driving distance is unbelievably tempting.

I saw that deal as well. It is a good deal. The only reason my kite is $400 is because it is still less than a year old. I bought it new from Big Mike in July last year, so it is less than a year old still.

Sfkiter you must have been flying west winds. Of course they are shifty. You want to try to only fly stuff between north and east. That way it is coming off the lake and not chopped up by the tall buildings. It is just as smooth as beach wind from that direction. Nice steady thermal stuff that stays on all day.
