I own all of the sizes up but have ridden this one and a couple of friends that own them. The guys that own them and ride them a lot are smaller than me so when I ride a wide 140 they are on the smaller board. They like the light feel and ease of throwing it around. It was a little race horse for me and when we get higher winds it very choppy with a lot of breaking waves to get out past so I prefer a bit more board under my feet in those situations - flatter water then I'm fine on it.

This happened to me once. I threw $5 on a bar and nobody else bidded... I didn't think I was going to win, especially after I found out that it wouldn't work with any of my kites. So I ended up canceling the purchase against eBay policy, pissing off the person selling it (it was over-priced anyway), and vowing never to use FleaBay again.

ive been looking for the right deal on one, and the only other size that doesnt overlap too much is the 150... and those are near impossible to find... i take that as a good sign...

from what ive read about the 130, it seems like a good board... but i def wasnt going to drop $750 on one...

ill post a review when i can... might be a while before i see any high winds around here, though

drop me a note if you are interested in anything at different point of use I cycle off my own gear as demo to have the latest available to demo - and friends have gear available at different times. I've had 150 wides and now have a 140 wide little difference but it's a better jump for me between the 140 and the King.

This year is the first year for wood core
loved the 150 and was wondering whether I would find much difference with the 140 - not much. we get a lot of chop, all bunched up and crisscrossing waves at the the most frequent place I ride - both boards eat through that. I'd usually recommend the the 140/150 depending on weight and size of rider so if I only had 1 board I'd get a lot of use from the 150 (winds are all over the place from light to gusty to strong and gusty) but with a couple of directionals, the King, the 140 is a better jump in size now. I've ordered wood cores for a couple of friends that swapped out their previous 150 wides and they love the wood core feel - a lighter board and a bit of flex.

Is there any change in pop with the wood core? The shape is just not flexible but is great for slicing thru chop.
I just got a King and had my first sessions last Saturday. I rode it twin tip. First had just the straps but then moved to the bliss pads. Ahh comfort. Also rode the skinny. Still like that board how it rides on a rail. I noticed the King porposing a bit more riding into the swells.

Oh yeah King is super easy riding toeside and transitioning to toeside. Skinny is just plain easy. Although I need to work on my transition to goofy toeside.

It's a free ride board so it's not a massive jumper but will certainly get you airborne. and it's an up wind monster; lay on the front foot and you'll be amazed. The huge concave is fantastic to just rip thru chop.

The past two sessions I've had on the ocean have me seriously considering a Mako - vicious rough water and chop all over the place ... but a King seems a bit of a waste cos it's so close to the Flydoor XL ... mind you, the 150 is pretty close to the Flyradical too

I've heard the wood cored boards are much stiffer :dunno: there's more on the OR forums though ...

How do you like the King, AD?

I've got a 2011 version of the 140 Mako. For the small waves and chop, the board seems to slice right through the waves like they're not there. The 140 is light and the pads are pretty comfortable. I think that it takes a change in the technique, though. With only one 45mm fin on each end, you have to remember to put some weight down on the front foot.

The Mako 140 definitely isn't as "grabby" as the 2011 North Spike that I trained on.

Mako King

I like the King. I was out yesterday with the SA and had a great time. There was not much chop. I took some GoPro video so will post when edited.

I also tried out an 09 140wide. It was ok. I really like the Mako skinny and think I will hang on to it.
It is the fastest of the Mako and is like riding on a rail. I would be interested to see if the Mini was also fast because it is so narrow. I was thinking about getting a 140x40 but think I will get a 137 or so TT that has good pop. I just started jumping and want more.

The new Mako's all have the mutant option, which interests me - slicing through chop as a TT or riding waves without the hassle of a monster surfboard ... the sizes baffle me though - the 150 is too close to my Flyradical and the 165 to close to the Flydoor

Looking forward to the video

so i had a chance to ride the 130 over last weekend... the winds were hovering just under 20mph, and i was flying the 19m synergy...

i weigh almost 200 lbs, fyi... first let me say that i am surprised the board rode well at all... i was figuring on needing about 25mph winds to even get up and plane well...

i only tried it out because i was bored at the location i was at, so i figured i would at least try to ride the new board.... measuring 130 by 35, i didnt think the winds were high enough... i was wrong... it got up and rode quickly and felt very maneuverable under my feet... when the wind gusted, i sped up quickly and it really did slice right through the water with ease....

it was pretty flat water, but that might be why it rode at all... i cant wait for a surfsession with this little guy... i just bought a 150 because i like this board so much... if the 150 is really great i might consider making the full switch... i prefer wave riding (what little waves we get here... mostly for the chop and mushy water) and this board supposedly does it better than the rest...

more to come...

The mako cuts chop and waves like nothing. Might sounds crazy but my 150 will ride upwind through crashed 3-4ft waves; a little swirly cutting through the white water but slices through the break. I've also found the 150 is enough for my 200# to ride waves; haven't tried the king yet... but want to :D

Do that Arkay and tell me what you think ... King just seems too close to the Flydoor XL to me in size - I want to be able to huck the Mako around too when I get into rotations etc ...
