Kite Buggying in Wa. state?

PNW Flyer - 26-5-2009 at 01:47 PM

I'm in Washington State/Seattle area and was wondering if anyone knows of the closest places to go buggying?

So far by doing my own research I have found one place and that would be way down at Westport/Grayland areas.

Anyone know of any other spots that may be closer? Moses Lake? Canada?

Thanks,
Bernie

let me know ... we're willing to drive down from Vancouver.

in Richmond, 30mins from the Peace Arch Border, we have Garry Point Park, its not big but we get some average winds (5m or bigger). nice thing is we have good company as a well.

if you talk to Monty, he'll tell ya. :D

check the local laws. i remember someone mentioning the coastal beaches of washington are considered a highway and therefore buggy's aren't allowed or something stupid like that.

I think if you're in a deserted area though you should be able to get away with it no problem.

I'll be heading to Clover Point this weekend with the potential of heading to Parksville and MAYBE Tofino. Kinda playing it all by ear. I'm meeting some new friends to fly some Revolution Kites @ Clover Point and taking it from there.

I'm taking a few of my kites with. Beamer IV 3.0, my Revolution and maybe my 5 stack Micron.

Let me know

I heard of that silly law you mentioned. Kinda found out about it in Ocean Shores this past weekend. What I also noticed was the "Law" AND signs say there are no "motorized vehicles" allowed in certain sections which are reserved for kite flying. NOW, last time I checked, power kites ARE KITES and "Buggies"are also NON-Motorized vehicles!! Hmmmmmm.......tempting VERY tempting!!!!!:wee:

have fun over on Vancouver Island. say hi to Gordy for us. tell him we didnt find his finger this year at NABX either.

there isnt much for kitebuggying / boarding at clover point its way too small, but if you like to kitesurf its a great place to ride. The only places i know in Victoria is the campus fields on Uvic and Camoson.

youll be able to ride at Tofino and Parksville.

Find his finger?? LOL. OK. Will pass the message. Chuckle....

Gordy was a name that was mentioned for buggying or past buggying.:singing:

Uvic? or Camoson looks like it's on a reservation? No?

ripsessionkites - 27-5-2009 at 06:58 PM

no, UVic is the University of Victoria which is about 20 mins away, and near by Camonson College.

you're better off IQuad at Clover Point and than head north to Parksville to buggy.

Good to know. I got a hold of the IQuad guys and that's what they're telling me too.

Thanks,
Bernie

Around Shi Shi ( hope I spelled it right) beach or La push, ruby beach, cape flattery, kalaloch beach, point grenville. Out on the penninsula there are so many beaches many deserted. from the northern point south. It's beautiful out there too. you can stay at La push (it's pretty central to many beaches) for like $35 a night. check out the west cost of wa. on google earth
check out makkah bay

Oh, theres a soccer complex with like 16 fields in the redmod/ woodinville area, willows rd and ne 116th st. there are some sod farms out there too. At least there was when I lived there 8 years ago.

Big E. the place your talking about is Marymoor Park in Redmond, just SE of the Velodrome is the Cricket field, best place in the entire park. The cost to park is $1.00.
Washaway Beach, So of Westport, is or was open to buggy's till it washed away. But the beach north of Warren Cannery RD to the creek is open to buggy's. (Tread lightly with the park rangers)
Discovery Park, ar Fort Lawton in Seattle, has the parade field open to kites and buggy's, but the parking lot is not a safe place for stuff in the cars.
I have access to a 2 mile square sod farm in Quincy, WA. that is awesome and the owner is more than happy to buggy with you if he isn't working. We usually buggy on Sundays due to work schedules. U2U if this sounds worthy of a long day in the sun.

All of Washington Beaches are state highways and buggy's are not allowed, but if you talk to the police on the reservations they have been known to let us buggy.

Meeting up with Gordy will be an education in many ways. He is one fine fellow with a ton of knowledge about most kites. He will know the best spots to buggy on the island. Chesterman Beach by Tophino is my favorite!

jellis - 8-8-2009 at 09:57 AM

Bladerunner are you not a member of the Tophino Buggy Club? Gordy is the pres.

I've been taking my Flow 4m to Marymoor quite a bit lately. I don't have a wind meter but between forcasts and feeling it out, I'd say I've had a solid 6 mph or more there. Also, there's an air strip in Easton (exit 70 on 1-90) which is East of the pass, so you get some fairly decent winds. Forecast was saying around 9 - 12 mph the other day. Not sure about buggying, as I don't have one, but I haven't had any problems flying either places.

?? there's a Tofino buggy club ?? !! ??

if so, fantastic place for it, but :puzzled:
