NABX 2010

ripsessionkites - 5-5-2009 at 06:26 AM

probably too early to ask, but a rough idea when the 2010 dates might be.

takes a lot of time to plan for the Euro Riders to come. we start promoting now.

thanks in advance. see you next year. :wee:

DAKITEZ - 5-5-2009 at 10:28 AM

I was hoping to find out this info also.

My wife is starting to plan things for next year already and she is pissed at me because I have a whole month blocked off the calendar for NABX  I told her she was not cutting my trip short again so I blocked a whole month

It seems to always be around the first week of April, but if we could get specifics that would be sweet.

dylanj423 - 5-5-2009 at 01:02 PM

I hope to make it next year... It looks good at the moment.

deanaoxo - 5-5-2009 at 01:24 PM

The event will be March 30th through April 4th!

Here's how you can know. NALSA uses the last complete week in March, and we follow.

revpaul - 5-5-2009 at 01:54 PM

plan ahead...
i figured...ok, asked wife to deduct:saint:)... $100 in the bank each month should get me to 20th anni NABX.:P
hopefully i will not be lone alberta boy.

DAKITEZ - 5-5-2009 at 02:20 PM

Thanks Dean for the update

For sure people put it on the calendar. You have 11 months to save and get there! The most expensive part of the trip is getting there, but once you are there its super cheap!

There is no excuses now of I didn't know when it was.

BB - THIS MEANS YOU TOO!!!! NO EXCUSES ;)

Rip - maybe I'll out grow my skirt before next year

macboy - 5-5-2009 at 09:02 PM

I've planted the seeds Paul. We better get the wifeys together over the next year to see if they "gel" so that we can go rip it up and leave them to run around Sin city ; )

Yeah, it sounds potentially bad BUT perhaps a small price to pay for miles and miles of lakebed

20th Anniversary - seems like no better reason to make a solid effort to make it happen. Likely a road trip for us but we won't really know 'til closer to the date.

you better ... i send you all the race kites you need to practice on. if you're willing to pay shipping from Canada to USA + take my ApeXX to NABX 2010, its yours too. :spin:

macboy / revpaul: bring your wives, there will be alot of others; Kitebuggy mama, Ozzy's Wife, Michel Dekker's GF, Faster Arie to go shopping with and hitch a ride. Just sign over the Credit Card.

see you in 11 months. Ill be the little asian guy between the one legged Dutch Guy + medium size guy from Cali wearing a skirt with his partner in crime with an orange T-Shirt with a huge Screw on it.

Yes Dino, I'm reading this too. I'm sharpening my Jedi mind tricks before I start making my case to the wife. I have to find arrangements for the kids and somehow combine it with a get together with her two sisters that live in the Bay area. I'm the one that pulled off going to Jekyll Island for a kite event on my anniversary, so I have skills. This one will require considerable maneuvering though. Is there a key to not melting through a set of tires every few hours there? I would have to plan ahead for that too. I wouldn't be gunning for 70 mph plus. My wide Flexi axle will be problematic too. Heck to ship out there but I sure would miss it if it didn't make the trip.

sure thing, Tanya will "gel" to freezing point and beyond if it means a "no hassle griping moaning from me" trip. :wee:
Tanya is a shop/travel-holic. i am an anti-traveller. i gotta have something in hand to validate money spent or i start to get a little batty. funny, as an oilfeld tech for 15 yrs, i was paid to travel across the globe. before last year i mostly bought all my kites from work trips throughout states.
to be perfctly honest Tanya is probably the best person on the planet to go travelling with. she gets/studies maps, plans day trips to popular locales, and has a very, very, keen sense of direction. after a short time she knows her way around any area and maps are only needed to find specific points of interests (kite/camera shops :tumble:). she is not timid about driving either.
ie.she's driven the freeways and major arteries of Los Angeles many times on her own.

deanaoxo - 6-5-2009 at 04:36 PM

Folks, i just want to hint, that's right, hint, at what we have planned.

It's big.

Real big.

You liked the new guy(Carlton)right?!?

You ain't seen nuthin' yet!

As i type, there are multiple lines of insanity and possibility playing out on this here rock.

I hope to announce the theme of next years event here, next month. Some things have to be settled, some palms greased, some strings pulled, and some schedules mangled, but damn it, we are ready for the big one, are we not????

I will not take NO for an answer, there is a new mandate to party like it's 1999 on the playa next year, and we are going retro in many ways, but above all it will include....

ah, i was just getting a little carried away. More soon!

Sure will be great to see everybody again for sure.

We are going off the grid here to our other most favorite dry lake, and won't be back until late september at which point a full nabx press will begin!

See some of you on the beach, playa or otherwise!

DAKITEZ - 29-9-2009 at 03:02 PM

After a short chat with Fast Freddy the other night it got me all pumped up and excited to go. It will be good to see everyone again. Is it time to go yet?:roll:

Wind has sucked here lately ... I'm ready lets go .......

deanaoxo - 1-10-2009 at 08:27 AM

I'm using this heading as it says it pretty much, NABX 2010 and i want you guys and gals to spread the word.

Peter Lynn will return to Ivanpah Dry Lake Bed for the event. Love him or hate him, it's hard to find a single person who has had a greater influence on our sport. Peter will be with us for the whole dang thang, so if you have questions, he may have answers!

Phillip McConnachie will also return. Not as well known as his mentor, Phillip was instrumental in the early days of kite buggy development. Now running his own shop in Oz, Phil knows where the party is and plans to be there with us.

I'm also announcing a new patch that may be obtained, which will be given to anyone who completes a special task. The award will be known as the Out 'n' Back and is going to be initiated by a group ride. Details will only be available at the event.

Racing. Yes, racing will return, rain or shine, wind or no. There will be a race committee and there will be a race(or five) no matter what. Details will be in a separate post, but it's on.

Free Style. David Sabilino will also return and will be teaching clinics and also performing. There will also be a free style event with reward! As always, the riders decide the winner!

Now for the night time stuff! Besides for our usual Shot Car Racing in the tent nightly, there will be two additional parties with themes tba. These parties will each be sponsored by one of our event sponsors and will have all the elements of what you've come to expect from the NABX Krewe. New this year will be Burning Man style hosting of the event. What does that mean? You have to attend to find out, but you don't want to find out by looking at the pictures AFTER the event, wishing you would of come up with a better excuse to get out of work so you could be there! (starting to get the picture?) The The Department of Tethered Aviation will cater all the parties, just so you know!

More guests will be announced as we confirm, but we are planning on running a number of ads in magazines across the pond with the hopes of bringing more riders from far away than ever before. You fine folks saw what happened last year when Fast Arie and crew showed up, will they be back to defend their title of fastest on the lake bed? Will there be challengers??? Stay tuned to this channel!

Now i tried to speak to this at the last meeting, but was interrupted by the Mayor, whom we allow, as he does preside over buggy town! We are having to raise our rates for NABX this year. Sorry, but we've done all we could to keep the event running at current rates and it just isn't possible as we end up broke, or in the hole each year.

This year, the BLM cost us an extra $1,000 because of a blown over port a pottie. This comes out of Claxton and my pockets. We're happy to do it, but don't always have it.

When you figure out the math, you'll see that your $50 doesn't go very far after we rent the tent, port-a-potties, buy the insurance, and give you a kicking T-shirt, which by the way, there will be TWO of next year, one for the event, and one special limited edition.

Also, we will have more port-a-potties and a bigger tent this next year. As many of you know, we had trouble with the services of the port-a-potties and this has been addressed. We wil also go back to the bigger tent, so we can get everyone in at one time!

So, lots of good news, hardly any bad news, and so much to look forward to!

Please post away about next year, and know you can email me if you have any direct questions, or you want to volunteer.

Much AoxomoxoA ahead!

ripsessionkites - 1-10-2009 at 01:26 PM

Dean, can you meet me on Skype soon. Need to discuss details over the Euros Coming Back again. More Dutch and some Germans now.

thank you

BeamerBob - 5-10-2009 at 04:15 AM

I'm getting the stars lined up for NABX 2010.

1. Get wifes job transferred to California so we move. Check
2. Make sure midi tires still work on my PL Bigfoot Flexi hybrid buggy without the seat dragging. Check

My wife asked this morning if I realized that we would be living only 7 hours from Vegas. "Oh really?" Then she asked if I would be going to the little kite thingy down there. Check.

awindofchange - 5-10-2009 at 12:39 PM

Little kite thingy....LMAO!

Awesome that you will be so close though....Does she know that El Mirage may even be closer to you? It's right next to Palmdale if you wanna look it up. :)

SCREWYFITS - 14-10-2009 at 07:55 PM

BB, we all caravaned for 2009 and I'd expect that we'll try again this year, so your welcome to join the "NOR CAL KITERS" if you'd like... I know my wife will bow out this year, she didn't enjoy the whole time last go, so we'll have a spot open, plus we could have fit 1-2 more anyways...

BeamerBob - 15-10-2009 at 03:45 AM

Screwy, that sounds great if my schedule matches up. I have a yukon xl so plenty of room to share myself or don't mind hitching a ride either.

AWOC, El Mirage is just over 300 miles so that should be an easy one as well.
