nabx operating fund

Hey Sailors,
At the nabx dinner in the big white tent, it was either Friday or Saturday night, there was discussion of creating an operating fund so nabx can have money to operate during the year, before the event when the registration fees are collected.

I've been thinking and have concluded this:
We would like to have $5000 to start the operating fund.
Whatever is spent each year should be restored by fees generated by the event.
No special pins or t-shirts for contributors.
No fancy acronyms or slogans - No "angel" or"contributor".
We get enough of that... stuff.

If pins and t-shirts are what it takes, then I think we're talking to the wrong people.

It will take 50 people putting up $100 each.

I don't want this to become a burden or too complicated.
I don't want to spend my time managing it.

I'll have my bank set up a savings account to use until we decide what's best.

Have I missed anything?
Certainly.
Please let me know how we can make this better.
Let's get started!

Hey Sailors,
Thanks for the good start.
Now we all need to spread the word and get this kicking.
Five or six is a beginning but we need fifty.

I'll stop by my bank tomorrow (it's payday) and have Manny open an account for us.
I'll post the address and account number and you can send it directly.

It would be nice to oblige Fast Freddie and accept a $5 a week subscription but the paperwork and time required makes it impractical.

Here's an idea: Get a large mayonnaise jar (or similar) and every time you fly a kite put $5 in the jar.
You will soon have enough to contribute to the operating fund AND Buy a New Kite.

Just an idle suggestion.

With all due respect to Corey's efforts, and at the risk of offending, but he did interrupt before i could explain.

We've a final few bills to pay, but it does not look good. Many prices rose last year due to the increase in fuel. As most of you know, no one bothered to lower their prices when fuel cost went back down.

Shirts went up by 50%. We are shopping around, but that has not looked good either, turns out we've been getting a very, very good deal on shirts, and high quality ones at that. We are going to try and hammer out a contract with our shirt vendor before next year to lock in some prices.

We are still waiting to find out the deal on the port a potties. We feel we shouldn't have to have paid as much as we did for non-service, but that bill was paid in advance through the NALSA group. We will do better next year for sure, there is no excuse for what happened.

We are still waiting for a couple of checks to come in, but, here's the hard part, it looks like we are going to have to raise registration regardless.

I'm sorry. We've done our best, but Claxton and i are increasingly feeling the pressure of having to pick up the slack if we don't make ends meet, and right now, it's not good.

There is plenty of good news for cost cutting without sacrificing quality. We will have a printed schedule next year for the schedule conscious. It will mean shifting a few prioritys but we're going to try it even though many consider it folly.

We are going to have a full time race organizer.

We are getting Claxton out of the tent so he can buggy.

Registration will only be open when Chef Carl is cooking.

The banquet will have a new guest Chef and there will be more veggies and at least two choices on the menu.

There will be more women! I swear!

We will understand if you don't want to continue this effort, even though it is needed. Having some seed money will mean a great deal to whom we can invite. All extra money goes to improving the event by bringing in all-star riders, hosting better parties and the like.

From the best for last Department: We WILL have a quality beer sponsor!

nice, but i dont drink that much beer. maybe REDBULL will come back, they have money. :D

no matter the price of registeration or cost of sponsorship or shipping some euros overs ... im in 110%. i enjoy what i do, and during the event time it makes my efforts well worth the sweat and tears.

Red Bull said they would, they changed contact people on me, i wrote them and called them every month, you saw the results.

I'll try again of course, but if one of you knows the rep in that district, you're free to ask them to contact us.

We'd love to have them back, had them as a sponsor for years!

What I am proposing is an operating fund separate from the nabx event.

A sum of money set aside in a savings account to allow the year-to-year continuation of certain aspects (international guests is a good one) of the nabx event.

Raise your registration fees.
I don't care.
I get much more value than the cost.

This is separate.
This is over and above.
This is to help ensure our future.

Don't try to stop me.

sorry but couldn't help but to put in my foreign 2cents,
we are a group of wind addicts who spend a minimum of 200 dollars at any time for a p reticular gear, and im not even considering some of us who spend thousand or two on a kite or a buggy.
so why is this such a big deal to pay 25 or 50 dollars more to attend an event for a week that happens once a year? I mean really this isn't exactly a cheap sport or a hobby that were into.

and if you ask me, shirts and stakes are nice but thats not the reason why I attend.
if its cost effective, give us the design of the shirt and well print it on our own shirt. and really wold anyone complain if we had burgers instead of stakes?

yeah, your foreign all-right, lol!

Here's the breakdown on the food, we paid a little to much, for sure, but will bring that down next year, don't worry, it will be as good, if not better. For sure, food costs have been analyzed and are under control.

Shirts. Listen, and please tell me if i'm wrong, but as some one who has hundreds of, i hate to say it, #@%$#!ty kite shirts(there i said it), i like to think that our shirt is the one you are proud to wear at any event, or any time that you would wear a t-shirt. They just keep getting better. We are actually already working on next years(yes, we work all year on the event, especially right after and the four or five months before!). Next years shirt is going to rock even harder than this years, and i really like this years!

Freddie i agree w you on value, and Corey, thank you for what you are doing, we promise to make you proud!

The lunch and breakfast at the playa this year was great. acutally very awesome. I hate eating that casino food. I dont care much about tshirts but food and clean port a potties is a must.

Speaking of funds, I registered at the event this year because I kept forgetting to register online. I didnt come in and pay until friday. I got there on wednesday and no one asked me for registration or anything. I am not sugesting we get a nabx police force all that #@%$#! but I wounder how many people show up for the event who have not paid?
I like to think we are all honest people who want to support the event but times are tough and not paying for the event probably seems like a "victimless crime" to some people.

we should cut out the pay there idea. IMO. so there is very little cash handling on the playa.

i noticed that some of the riders there weren't even on the Registered List on the website.

sorry in advance Scooter ... but I got asked many times if i've recieved my T-Shirt yet. maybe get a Mark-Off Sheet going? sorry again! :bigok:

PS. Food was great - no more McDick runs, steak could use LESS pepper corn. :flaming:

It's ALL ABOUT the T-shirt. Because it goes ....... Bin' there , DONE THAT and then got the T-shirt.:P


I like that now I can feel free to contribute over and above Registration as I see fit. Trying to pull together $100 U.S. in Canadian Pesos was going to be a potential challenge. This way I can toss in some now and hopefully more later when I'm more sure about my ecenomic situation.:dunno:

Bladerunner don't know about being wrong but maybe different, to me the joy and the self satisfaction of being there is enough, and to top it "I help fix bugie in nabx" so I get to meet more of you, and seeing the smile on buggiers face when I get them rolling gives me a bigger joy. but one thing for sure we are all addicted to wind and getting our fix I consider priceless.

so "we don't need no stinkin #@%$#!s" just wind and good people like you all in the same place. like the Lama says value exceeds the cost.

however the shirts are awesome, thank you Chip, you outdone yourself every year, were great full. and really I do want a shirt next year.:spin:

Firstly Ricardo, I need to apologize. But the shirts are none of my business. I only handle the banquet and food criterion and attempt to help or properly direct everyone into the proper direction as too who handles each aspect of facilitating the event.

I want to take a moment to thank you all for you gratitude and constructive criticism's. They help me a lot.

The banquet and cooking on the playa is an ever developing process. It offers challenges never before scene in any professional kitchen. We aim to feed you all, and feed you well.

I look forward to receiving all the input from y'alls end of event surveys. So be sure to fill out your surveys. This information helps us accommodate you better and better every year. For those that have not filled out your surveys, you can login to your NABX.net accounts and go here to complete them - http://www.nabx.net/members/post-event-survey.html. It is this input that helps us figure out how to take care of you all as best as possible.

Regarding food on the Playa, I will be starting a new thread on the forum, and I seek your all's input into our process. This is your event after all. I will use my culinary skills to accommodate everyone as best I can within my budget.

Now, I believe this thread was started by the Coreylama to discuss and accommodate the NABX / Ivanpah Founders fund to help us put on this event every year.

I am not sure how many of you know how much $$$ it takes ahead of time to fund this event. Or How much $$$ it takes even after the fact.

Needless to say that's a whole lot of dough.

Maybe I need to clarify a few points. Everybody in the NABX committee is strictly volunteering our time and finances. Absent of buggy time to make your all's time more enjoyable. As the phrase goes Our Work = Your Play.

As I acknowledge, the NABX / Ivanpah Founders Fund is a way for some of us to help finance the pre-requisite costs of putting on this event i.e. permits, insurance and facilitation's. We ask for and will not receive any special dispensation for this. This is our gift to you, our brother en.

So Please Corey, post the info for us to participate and assist you in this endeavor.
