Does anyone want to paraglide in Vegas?..

solaris - 28-3-2009 at 12:39 PM

Me and Ed (both from Vancouver) are bringing our gliders :wee: The plan is to fly in the mornings since usually there is not much wind at playa for kiting.
We want to go to Jean Ridge, and couple other thermal sites.
If anyone is interested we would LOVE some company :)
It would be our first time paragliding in Vegas!

I've never done it before, you got a tandem set up?
I'd be interested in checking you all out and watch, maybe one day or so... I've always been very interested in it...
Hit me up, down at the Nor-Cal Kiters camp

Unfortunately I am not a tandem pilot yet, but soon... here in Canada you must become an instructor first  - hopefully this summer :)
I will definitely pay your NorCal camp a visit ;)
Is Dagon in your camp?

Anybody is welcome to come with us and watch  it is quite breathtaking!

SCREWYFITS - 28-3-2009 at 02:32 PM

Yeah, Dagon is a Nor-Cali...
I think I'll be down for a watch and my wife and dad will most likely be interested also... You gotta watch out for me I'll ask a bazillion questions, I hope I don't get hooked, my wife will kill me if I get another hobby...

If I can make it down I will bring my glider too. Just not sure if I will habe the dough to go at this point. I have always wanted to try a glass off at Jean ridge, it is shaped alot like the south side at POM in Draper UT.

If i can't make it down and you want to drive to S. Utah I can show you all of our sites in a few days or just pick the more popular ones. It's only about 2 hrs up I-15.

Screwy we can figure it out in a couple hrs. I ride with ya. I have watched these before. You will be hooked. :wee:

I won't be visiting the Vegas area anytime soon, :megan: but I'd really love to find some tandem paragliding in my region.
Does anyone know where I can find a national directory for this service? (my google attempts weren't fruitful)

Paragliders Sux Imo. Someone there started giving tandems for donations, Boards, bla bla bla but I guess the donations were a hundred dollars. Thanks guys.

Dagon - 7-4-2009 at 08:49 AM

that wasnt solaris giving tandems, I think it was the Ozone team. I know they were trying to offset thier travel costs. I think $100 was a bit high, especially considering everyone is on such a tight budget just to get to nabx.

dman - 7-4-2009 at 09:48 AM

Nah, a hudred bucks is a fair price for a professional tandem. all my friends who are tandem instructors charge right around that and will count that toward your lessons if you decide to take it to the next step. There is a lot of resposibility to taking someone up in the air and when it goes bad everything you have can be put into jepardy. Everyone asks me when I will get my tandem rating and i just tell them I want to enjoy my flying time not have another job.

sunset-Jim - 7-4-2009 at 10:40 AM

A tandem ride here at Sunset Beach (discoverparagliding) also runs at least that and will also credit that toward future instruction. It's not the same as getting a "loaner" buggy and kite for the first time to see if it is something that one wants to pursue. It's a different sport with different costs and liabilities. Apples and Oranges.

I've been considering for the last few years to get into it and after taking a tandem ride, I'm convinced I gotta do it. My biggest concern though is how much is it going to cut into my buggy time.*smile*

Now just to find that someone that bought all new gear and decided NOT to do it....

You know you went faster this year than ever before :wee:

Congrat's on those new top speeds ! Was it 57mph ? :wow:
I wouldn't ever go that fast with my :moon: that close to the ground :smug:
