Power Kite Forum

Keeping it real (& Alive)

This seems like a good forum to exchange information. I've been kite surfing for about 4 months after 8 years of windsurfing. I live in Northern Florida. Just buying my first new kite. I'm going with the Takoon Swoop II, mostly on advice from another. My new kite is 17.5 M for extreme light air. I only weigh 150 lbs. I'm riding a Light-Wave 169cm twin tip, and able to plane quite easily with my (very) old Naish AR-5 15.5M kite. We get a lot of calm days, and I want to be able to get out on the water even on days when we take the kids to the beach.

Tried my 15.5 today in winds @ 18-25mph. Yes, I was overpowered, but it was very controllable, when my feet were touching the earth. I had to quit before I even got to the water. I felt like Peter Pan. I can fly! I can fly! I lived.

Welcome to the forum 5KnotJohn!
I have some buddies kitesurfing in Florida so I understand what you say about the soft wind. Years ago, we put a stack of 16 Flexifoil Super 10's together and stuggled to even keep 'em up in the light breeze! We had better luck with the festivals down in Miami Beach.

What is the best place to surf near you? What is the name of the school you used?

Keep havin fun,
BC
