P4 15m Kailua Beach, Oahu Hawaii

finally got to get out on the water today. winds were 10-20mph

tomorrow its supposed to be 15-25 so I'm hoping to get out on the 15m phantom for the first time and get some footage of that.

nice vid,

my first ride on my Phantom 15 in about 20mph ...these huge big floaty jumps

remember it's slower on the turns but total power

don't get it wet ! it does not recover quickly and collaspe prone when wet and heavy...

FOR speed and big air you want be disappointed...promise

nice video, then I get some questions

1) what type of cam is it. I find the image quite steady compare to the ATC2K I had. How is it fixed ??

2) You post winds from 10-20mph, but the strap seems to to be way depower. what top end do you expect with the 15m.

3) what board and size, your weight

I just want to evaluate the range of this kite on water for me at 185lbs with my RIP 34. I think you had same board and similar weight.

i would say from the video the FS 15m seemed quite docile , did you feel powered up?


the phantom 15... i run on the end knot (all the way out) and the trim close to all the way out as well,

really hard to tell ...the kite action seemed smooth and stable

camera seems solid

To answer your questions.

1. the cam is a Go Pro Digital Wide Helmet cam. they cost $189
and I have it mounted to a red protec helmet identical to the one on GoPro's site. except for I just used the 3m Adhesive pad mounts that they supply. that stuff has to be the strongest 2 sided tape I've ever seen!

2. The wind was definitely all over the place. it was steady but different parts of the bay were at different speeds.

at the launch with a hand anomometer they were saying it was 11mph
the naish hawaii shop said around 18mph
forecast for Oahu said 10-20mph
the water was very choppy so I had to go kinda slow inorder to keep an edge.

I'm guessing in the light spots the wind was around 10-12ish and in some spots it definitely felt like 18-20mph.

I've ridden my Rip34 with the P4 on flatwater in about 20-24ish winds and it is definitely at its peak for my comfort zone. its fine but you have to be careful about going to fast because the kite will want to go faster and faster as it builds more apparent wind. I like to describe it as a run-away freight train so you either have to let it back off to zenith slowly or jump huge and hope you land softly! lol.

3. I was actually on my new 158x42 NorCal Dillon that I got off of ebay last week. its a pretty narrow board with a lot of rocker and a lot of flex for soaking up chop so it rides like a smaller board but is supposed to be able to get into a wave pretty easily.

btw I weigh about 195lbs

btw everybody else on the water was rigging 10-14 sized SLE's or 13-15 sized Hybrid tubes

I think I was one of the heavier riders at the beach though. there was a lot of skinny guys riding surfboards with kites

just added a 2nd video just below the first one at the top.

that was on a sunny day so you can see the footage comes out way way better when there is more light but unfortunately the wind wasn't quite strong enough :(

P4 is stable with really light air

i'll check riggin spot cam looks like you where out midday HI time

3rd day straight on the phantom 15 for me super nice air platform everytime!

we are the same weight, talk about faster and faster wait til you take your phantom out in about 20mph on the water... with that big board you'll have no trouble holding it down.

Kailua can be a fickle launch. In the old days the winds used to be pretty steady 15-25, but in recent years it seems as though the trades are getting weaker. On Oahu the place to go is Mokes. Wind is always 10-15 mph more than Kailua, just watch out for the reef and waves. The locals must have freaked when they saw your foil, eh?
