New member to the forum but have been reading lots of great info here for a while now.
2 weeks ago I spent 4 days down at Sunset beach south of Santa Cruz. A CA State Parks ranger drove up to talk while I was setting up on one of the
days. He was kind enough, as was I. His only word of warning was that from early spring to Sept the area would be off limits to large kiting as
there are nesting birds in the sand dunes and the large kites would scare the birds.
Been thinking about that for a while and if what he says is correct, most of the Moterey Bay beach line would then be off limits to large kites for
the same reason during that time frame. Has anyone else had any experiences like this in Nor Cal area?KYTE SLINGER - 10-10-2008 at 06:26 AM
not "all" of the bay but just some of the less populated stretches of beach............ they just tell us these things because we can understand and
read the English language ...

in the real world try telling that to other predators of said plovers .....

I've buggied there a few times. It's great there if the conditions are right and the rangers aren't around. Stick to the cold winter days when there
are few people. If the ranger runs you off, head south 30 minutes to Seaside where Kyte Slinger rides.

Looks like the USGS has started down the road to reconsider the Snowy Plover's Endangered Species Status. This is good news for beach users,
especially in CA.
