You need to check out the dry lake in Wilcox. It is not to far from you.

That's it. Several years ago while driving to nabx we stayed over in Wilcox and checked out the lake bed. Playas is another dry lake but it is in
New Mexico. It is south of I-10. I am not sure if you want to go that far but I do know that the land sailors visit this one.
