Harddrive8 and myself have found a nice little park close to the house that has given us the green light to fly in.
Park Details:
Henry Fork River Regional Recreation Park
5655 Sweet Bay Lane
Hickory, North Carolina 28601
8000 square foot picnic shelter with a catering kitchen, rest rooms and tables and grills.
7 soccer fields
Alpine Tower
2 playgrounds
Concession stand
Paved walking trail
Canoe launch
We talked to the grounds maintenance guy who keeps up the soccer fields. He loved the idea of us flying kites there as long as we did not mess up the
fields.
He also let us know that they fly RC Planes on the fields to. While we were there we made sure that he knew that we were not talking about little ole
walmart kites by flying harddrives Ace 12m.

Its really cool seeing more and more Mid-Atlantic people poping up on here :D

That's great to know, I end up in Hickory from time to time for Jared's baseball tournaments. I've taken kites before but didn't know where to go.
I'll look you guys up next time I'm there and get a chance to fly. That field looks big enough to buggy if you get far enough away from the trees.

Sandman or myself didn't ask about buggies or boards. There were signs up when we arrived that said "Field Closed." We weren't sure if they were
closed for all activity or just soccer so we talked with the guy mowing the parks grass, and he said flying kites were fine. The fields were closed to
people wanting to play soccer because of trying to get the fields in better condition before the fall. We felt relieved to know that the fields were
only closed to playing soccer, so we didn't push our luck (also neither of us have boards or buggies that we could have used). Before breaking out a
buggy or board during the summer or winter months, I would probably talk to them to see if it's okay. We know that static flying has been approved
though.
A side note about the field. There are 2 stadium style lights between two of the fields closest to the main parking lot, and concession stand. They
are about 75-100 yards apart and are the only two at the location. It would kind of put a bit of a damper on the area between those two fields, but
can be worked around.
If any of you make it out that way, I'd like to meet up with you. Get some faces with some names. :D I work about 5 min. from the field, and it's
about a 20-25 min drive from the house.

When in town, we always stay at the fairfield inn just two exits east of there. Easy to get there if there is wind and some downtime. I'll be sure
to give a shout if heading that way.

Anyone can add a spot, give it a try.
