Man, Today is nice. Sunshine 65-70 degrees wind out of the south 17-19mph. Perfect day And I am sitting here with my leg up trying to heal before Nabx. This sucks:mad: I wonder if I could??? I better not I will be sorry. Dam.:no::sniff: Ya know what? If I can't do it I'll take my son! I am tired of sitting here already. I don't ever do this but I called the school and had him come home he will think something is wrong But no, We are going to take the Npw and his roller blades and go to a parking lot by wal-mart. He is a good kid! He is going to love this. He is the one that woke up saying :Dad its windy today.Now I feel better. We are outta here.

cool i wish my dad would have done that when i was younger. hey be careful healing correctly is most important. dont go trying anything stupid.

Remember, its only a week. You can hold out that long and meanwhile live vicariously through your son's antics. Imagine having 11-14 weeks of healing and PT ahead of you like Dustin has. How old is your son by the way? I am about 6 years older than you it seems. My boys are 8 and about 13. Oh crap, he's going to be a teenager!

You're a good dad, S38! I was thinking about a similar situation in the future that if my son ever got to stressed out about life/work, etc. that I would take the day off work and then do something special...kite, surf...whatever he wanted to do...Helps to put things into perspective now and again!

Hope you guys had a great time and you're healed up enough for NABX....can't wait...El Mirage last weekend was going off!!

Thanks lunch box. He said it was the best day ever! We just got back we dont have a harness yet so he is wiped out.:tumble:he rollerbladed then I put him in the bug he had a blast. You know what so did I. I never laughed so hard as I watched him cruze by.:spin: Yes I wanted to try But I didn't. That shows me how much I love this sport. I don't have to be flying to enjoy it. Thats a good thing. Bob he is 15. I have 5 kids but he is the most into kiting.3 boys 2 girls. The girls have little kites but don't like the wind much. My youngest daughter is 5. :) Bob! your almost 50!

Whoa wait a minute. I don't even round up to the next year . You're adding 4+ to me here. I don't act my age at all. I see guys I went to high school with and they look like they are ready to retire, and I don't mean from the kiteboard circuit either. I get mistaken for 35 often. On the other hand, tridude IS pushing 50 and I can't keep up with him on much of any activity. You are as old as you act.

It is floaty enough to go over 10' high and you are content to just wait for it to let you back down. It is SO consistent as well. Add wind or send it lower or both and you go higher. I wondered out loud with tridude about what they could do to make it fly better. I also thought about buying a kite this expensive and then the blade V's come out. I resolved that it is such a fantastic kite that I couldn't have any remorse. They "could" come up with cooler graphics but then look at the IV and how cool it is. I can't lose. I will bring it with me if I get out to visit all my family in the Bay area, and we'll do some sharing. Then YOU will be ordering one. You seem like an 8.5 guy though since you're almost 45. :yes::tumble:

Bob!! 41 young. And a 6.5 is a perfect size for me. I know my Blade 2 6.4 So The new Blade would double that in preformance and handling I am sure. Any more than that in a blade is out of my comfort zone. Remember I flew that 12 Ace (Beast) So I think in the Blade series you need more hands on time with these before you jump up to the bigger sizes.Imo. How would you have liked to get a hold of one of these for your first kite? Yea, I Am scared your going to change your name to BladeBob. That don't sound to bad. I see you are getting rid of your crossfire are you going to keep your Beamer?

Yea I see a Npw in his future! Those Imo are great for learning in the bug. you should have seen Jacob today cruzing with it He had a blast. He want's to get one of his own. Did you find some bigger sizes yet? I may have to get with the Goddess at Nabx These kites deliver power pretty good right off the bridles I could only imagine what a bigger one could do.

Gotcha Thrasher! :P We're even.
I came to several revelations recently. First was that the Blade IS ok to buggy with if you have it set to the low lift setting and don't be too aggressive sending it behind you. It is full of finesse and not too eager to jump in that setting. It will sit all day at the edge of the window. Want to raise or lower it a little? just a nudge on a handle or brake and it does what you want. Wexler showed me that you could put the handles in a bundle in one hand and it would sit pretty much where you left it. Requires perfect line lengths.
Second revelation was what a fantastic and fun kite the Crossfire is. Selling it was going to leave a big hole in my quiver and after an epic day with it on Saturday, I decided to keep it.

Also, the Beamer isn't going anywhere unless I just wear it out. No signs of that yet either. Given that, BeamerBob will continue to be my handle. My reputation (for what it's worth) is attached to that name, and the beamer will always be my first 4 line kite. Newbies repeatedly say it is their most fun kite of the day.

So we woke up to an earthquake like spring of 1996. Wasn't a bad one, but the usgs issued a tidal surge and scheduled it to hit around lunch time that day. so right after lunch I was sitting in personal finance class and I saw my dad's hat walking back and forth out the window of the front door.

He knocked and called my name and two of my friends and said you've been excused for a family emergency, I was freakin out....

my buddies and I got in his van, we noticed he had all of our surfing gear loaded. he said it's on, we ripped over to the cove....super low tide, never lower and perfect backside waves. so we hooked it for surfing.

another time.....Brian Smith (quadrifoil) called my dad to see if I was available for a W. Africa kiting trip....It was B-ball season I was only 17, so as excited as i was for the trip, my parents said I couldn't go. I was frickin bummed out! So on my birthday my dad give me a plane ticket to New York, and my passport. Looks like you'll be quitting b-ball, and missing 20 days of school to go film a kite video for quadrifloil....IN AFRICA.... here $500 cash for an emergency and you'll be meeting Brian in New York....learned more in 20 days in Africa than I did that entire year in high school.

I truely felt that my Dad could of gone instead of me....thanks again Dad...

another time, I had a huge work load in college, but my dad wanted to drive to NABX and he wanted me out for 9 days. So I told him my chem prof won't let me out for that long...he said, "how much does that class cost if you have to retake it" i said like $375 or something. He said, "lets go'".....

I see all the talk about dads & kids, and wanted to share something.

I am 39 with 4 boys. They are 16.5, 15, 13, and 11. When we are at home they seem to fight and bicker like kids do. One of the first things I did was to get them all their own 4 line kites...yeah, the family quiver is pretty big. We like to camp quite a bit and we almost always go to the ocean and bring the kites and buggy. Most of them just do scudding with the older two playing in the buggy and a little jumping. What is just awesome to see is all 5 of us lined up flying our kites. The kids are no longer arguing and they help each other and support each other. They share kites whenever wind conditions allow for a bigger kite and a larger drag.

It's just real cool to see everyone get along. One of those special dad moments is to see everyone doing something they enjoy and not argue. A nice side benefit, this makes it easier to justify to the wife for buying more kites for everyone to share.

The kids are getting older and more busy. I am hoping that as the teenagers grow up, start driving, and get more busy, they will still have time to go out and fly with the family.

The Cult has been a real nice fly. Relatively quick on the turns. Changed out the lines for 25m ones. The 4.5m shipped with 20m from the factory. Works good with the buggy and easy to get up in light winds. Real stable and does not have much lift.

Has caused me to do a few Superman maneuvers in high wind because I refuse to let go!

Cool I have been looking at these. Thats one thing I have a hard time doing is just letting go! I wish I could do this more often When I have to it just seems like my grip is just dead locked trying to get that next boost of power rather than missing it.

One of those meager things from the Netherlands will do. :D But seriously after my wife laughs at that request, I'll start out with a PL or Flexi buggy. I'm a tinkerer, and would use either one as a base to do tweaks and mods to it. I love bargains, and am being patient for a deal to come along. On that flexi buggy on ebay recently I was the high bidder for some time at $230, but it went for $150 more and by the time I added a wide axle and wide tires, I would've spent enough money for a fair price on a wide/wide flexi buggy. So not really a deal. I can use barrow wheels at home but many beaches we go to have soft sand, so the wide wheels would be mandatory for locations and my body weight.

Hold out it will be worth it! If you rush into getting one as soon as you do another will pop up that was a better deal or what you really wanted. When is the Blade going to get there? I am getting impatient.

I hope maybe by the end of next week but certainly by the end of the month. It is currently undergoing some product testing and evaluation in Jekyll Island, SC. After Acampbell flies it in some heavier winds, he will be sending it my way. My review enticed him and he wanted to see where it fit in between his 4.9 Blade IV and his PL Reactors. He goes above and beyond in every interaction I've had with him so he gets to try it out. The review will be very interesting.

:thumbup: anytime! even Strasher can ride it in the condition he's in. one leg driven is possible.

did you see the for sale section on the PL XR+ comes with an extended rear axle already. Lots of opinions on the market, maybe a PL Comp ST to start .... reliable and cheap, tons of mods for it.

Well it's mon the 9th of march. I went to the doctor today and he said I need another 2 weeks to heal properly But that it was comming along well. I am going to try to go to work tomorrow if I can I need to be on light duty if I do. And I do not have a doctor relese either. I can't be out of work another 2 weeks If I plan on going to Nabx! Even if I got disability the money would not be here in time. I am on a real tight income due to past child support (yada-yada). And it seems to be one thing after another right now for me. Is anyone else having trouble getting to Nabx? My wife and I have been planning on this for 4mo. or so And we are looking forward to it very much. It will be a dream to me. It just seems like something does not want me to go. But know this I will do everything in my power for us to be able to go! So I am bucking up and heading back to work tomorrow. I hope they dont ask for a relese or I may end up stuck at the office. That calls for a long day!

don't rush it !! I had surgery on my knee and was suppose to be off for 3-4 weeks. I had my own business at the time so I took off 4 days not 4 weeks. Stupid me its been 5 years and its just now feeling half right. I have come to accept I messed it up from not letting it heal correctly and it will just never be 100% again. A few weeks is not worth a lifetime of injury.
