neewbie with a 10m ozone frenzie 05

Hi all i've just perchased a Kite which is a 10 meter Ozone frenzy for some snowkite this year in france. the thing is i have no experiance at all in the kite flying department apart from the kite guy from the shop took me out in 5mph winds to show me how it all worked. he said it was the right kite for me. soooo im takin it down weston supermare beach this sat for some practice! the thing is its goin to be 23mph winds! is this a good idea and if anyone is about this weekend to show me how to fly it i would be very greatfull as i fear i may be blown away!.

DON'T TAKE OUT A 10M FRENZY IN 25mph WIND!
unless you know exactly what you're doing.
Not sure that guy was right to say that kite is right for you as a total newb but you should be able to manage it, just don't take it out in more than 10mph until you've got the hang of it and a good feel for it. It's a great kite.

Do not do it............................................

I have a 10m Frenzy too.. Start in 8 - 10 mph... Land it if it gets higher..
Get use to it at 8mph.. Practice practice practice.. Land it and launch it over and over..

When You get use to it and the safety system You will be able to go out in higher winds...

I still dont take it out over 15mph... Take Your time and enjoy..
No reason to rush it and get Hurt...

There will Plenty of days in the future IF You go slow and Learn the kite ...

23mph, Im flying my 3m or even smaller...

Make sure your will is up to date if you take a 10m in 20 mph winds. You might want to tie yourself to your car so you don't fly away.

thanks for the advice guys its just i leave for france in 4 weeks and i work all week so the weekend is my only chance!! does anyone fly there kite at night?
i think i'll take all your advice and wait for the wind to calm down! :no:
what about if i lanched it in the low power part of the window?! and aparently i can depower it to a 5meter kite!! or was the guy in the shop just pullin my chain with ound signs in his eyes!

You would hurt yourself/someone/something with a 5 meter kite in those winds. And then what happens if a gust comes?

I'll go ahead and say it. This guy set you up for a lot of frustration to learn with a 10 meter kite. You can pull it off with time if you start in just enough wind to fly it. Work up slowly. You might speed up the process by also getting a 2-4 meter 4 line kite. Learn with it and then your skills will help you play safely with the 10m. The small kite will let you learn in a little more wind too.

Hahhaaaa, no way can you depower a frenzy down from a 10 to a 5 meter, i mean not really... only in perfect clean winds does depower work exactly as it's described, any gust hits it and changes the shape of the kite even momentarily, it's gonna power you up like hell!

It does sound rather like this seller just wanted to make a quick buck, however, you still have a fantastic kite, i've never disliked any model frenzy and the 05 is no exception... just please do wait for some lighter wind... a pro kiter would take up a 7m frenzy in 25mph, but wouldn't even consider his 10m... so someone who never been flying before is sure to hurt themselves :) although the safety is pretty reliable.

Hope you get the hang of it soon so you can enjoy your lovely kite :)

cheers for that guys looks like ill be takin a few days off work then when the winds are as powerfull as a half straind fart!
i've just been watchin some videos on the ozone web site! man those guys are just flyin around how long till i can do that!!
and is my ten meter capable! i weight 13 stone! do i need to go on the heroin plan to get some weight off!?

hehe :) you're ten meter is more than capable, that's why you need to be careful! :)
taking it out in less than 5mph might be annoying for you as well as the kite might start falling out of the sky unless you are working it lots! 13 stone you will be flying around quite happily :) the 10m is awesome in about 16mph of wind and you will be jumping all over the place given practice and care and safety and all that important stuff! Let us know how you get on! It will take you some time to get to the jumping... but when it clicks, that's it! FUN FUN FUN!!!! :)

Get a cheap quad line in the 3m range instead of a dual line. I've found you can find some quads with line and handles cheaper than you could buy the line and handles by themselves.

NO. I did this the second time I flew mine and when I launched it, I landed about 20 feet downwind on my side. Then it drug me another 6-8 feet before I lost my momentum. This is called a superman. I was lucky and inexperienced flying in 25 mph winds. The Beamer is great to learn with but not in those winds. Translating what happened to me to what a 10 meter would do in the same winds is just scary. I could fly the Beamer in those winds today but only because of hours of flying in marginal winds or low winds. Unless you get one of those 1 or 1.5 m profoils you don't want to learn to fly a kite in 25 mph winds. Even then you are going to have your eyes opened.

I'm just in the process of learning to fly my new 10M Access XC. All you guys are awfully nice to be giving out the great free advice.

When I first learned to ski all my buddies gave me the same advice....go faster! The theory was that if you go fast enough you'll be so !@#$ scared you won't fall...that way you learn quicker!!!

I don't know if the same philosophy applies to kites...what do you think? lol.

an Access XC 10m is a powerful kite too. make sure you start in low winds too !!

so where in canada are u?

as for me 2 years ago, my ozone dealer gave me a free 1 hour lesson with the kite, and strongly recommended buying a 4m or 6m access to start with

I think dealers dont want to miss a sale, and they know that most people want only buy one kite when starting

Hi buzz...I'm out in Calgary. I got my kite at Muller Wind Sports, they're the Canadian distibutor for Ozone. I've known them for years as I used to fly hang gliders and paragliders. They're great to deal with, no pressure, casual group of people, lots of fun to hang out with.

I'm used to handling anything up to a 42m tandem paraglider, but I'm really amazed by the amount of lift that these small kites generate when you get them moving. It's a real trip for me!!! I can't wait to get out on the snow.

This scenario is like back country skiing fast in an area that you are sure has 500' vertical cliffs with rocks at the bottom and just going for it anyway. Ok, maybe only 100' cliffs then. But the rocks are still down there.

I had a near death experience paragliding and maybe that's made me a little more timid and more safety conscious than most but I still think of two things before I decide to put up a kite in high wind conditions:

1) There are bold pilots and they are old pilots but there are no old bold pilots (substitute pilot).

2) You have a better chance getting injured kitesurfing than paragliding but a better chance of dying paragliding.

So far I haven't been injured (knocking wood) but I do believe that's because I choose to kite responsibly.

WHAT!!! a 10m frenzy for your first kite!!!:puzzled: I would take it back before you get killed!:( and get an Access 6 or 8m if you want Depower!
I have been flying my 3m Little devil for about 2months now and i'm looking for an Ozone depower kite!! but theres NO WAY i would buy a frenzy! they have to much lift for me!!
I had my Little devil out in 30+ mph winds at westard HO! at the weekend and that had more pull then i could handle!! and that was with a harness!!:lol:
Why do you want a massive kite like that for??
If your going to be snow boarding with a kite i would buy a 4 or 5m kite!

I think kite size depends on the terrain you're riding and the winds you're riding in. A flat, icy wind swept lake isn't the same as a steep, sheltered snow covered mountainside. Generalizations tend to be misleading.
When I picked out my glider I had the benefit of lots of input from people who've been riding in the area for a few years. I also had the benefit of being able to learn in a supervised environment on small 1.5m & 3m school kites. For me, it would be unthinkable to order a kite online and try and teach myself...but thats just me.

Don't do it. 23 miles/hr is ok with a 10m Frenzy on snow once you have quite a bit of experience but not static flying. I weigh 15.5 stones and start thinking about changing down at sustained 40 km/hr or 25 miles/hr. We have a 3, 2X5, 7.3, 7.5, 9.5 and 12 Frenzy and have flown them for 4 years now. My wfe weighs 9.6 stones so she always uses one size down from me. We also have two 11.5 stone boys so we likely don't have enough kites, strange as that may sound. I think the 3 would be an ideal kite for learning to fly for most people but likely at your weight a 5 would be about the smallest kite you would ever use I find that with the 5 I can go out in near whiteout conditions where you think you are on some other planet.
The person you bought the kite from was giving you the best advice for someone wanting to buy just one Frenzy and going on a snowkiting trip shortly. He should have told you some other stuff that you missed out on hearing:

People usually buy two frenzies depending on their weight and ability, either a 5 and 10 or a 7.5 and 12. 08 models are different, maybe a 7 and 11 or a 7 and 13? Access 6 and 9?

A 10 fully depowered is about like a 5 fully powered up, bar pulled in so this means that you won't have much control with the 10 when you really need it.

You really should learn flying skills using a cheap little kite that you don't mind crashing into the dirt over and over. He should have given you one.

A 2 line kite is a miserable viscious thing to fly, at least get a 4 line.

In a heavier wind a Frenzy on the safety will pull pretty hard. Get used to pulling in one of the back lines to flag it out otherwise you may get yanked pretty bad.

A 10 has about the same low end maybe even better low end than the 12 because it flies faster. The 12 is so nice and floaty though once the wind comes up a bit.

You really shouldn't static fly anything much bigger than a 7.5. especially if there are gusts.

Snow kiting is at least 90% kite flying skill.

Nobody knows what the hell stones are.

Anyway, if you learn to fly on something small until you can fly with your eyes closed and then safely progress on to the 10 you should have a lot of fun. Don't go out in anything over 10 miles per hour for quite a while with the 10.

Wear saftey gear!! Helmet knee pad elbow pads. That is what you should get before any kite or string. And please dont fly a 10m in 25mph wind. You will get hurt.:borg:

It's not that bad.....just use good judgement. Everyone has given good advice. Please find and instructor who is trained to teach depower while hooked in. He'll teach you the safety systems.
