Shot Car Racing at Dead Bird

coreykite - 24-10-2007 at 11:22 AM

Hey Sailors,
Seems as long as I'm planning to "do the bird" I might as well bring along the new ASCRAA (American Shot Car Racing Association of America)-sanctioned "short course" race tracks.
Also bring a portion of my garage to share.

The new tracks (yes, there are 2) are 6' long and have 2 lanes on each course.
Side-by-side Match Racing.
Battle of the Sexes.
Whiskey vs Rye.

If y'all can't find a common place to hang and play together each evening, we'll just have to "do it on the beach".

Remember, this is social.
Better fuel means better racing.

brought to you by:
the American Shot Car Racing Association of America,
who asks... "Got Fuel?"

What's dat? Anything like slot car racing?

The only thing I come up with for ASCRAA is American Sickle Cell Research and Awareness Association.

Hey Sailors,
A brief tutorial on Shot Cars:
Take a Matchbox or Hot Wheels car and glue a shot glass on top.
Voila! A Shot-Car.
Now to Shot Car Racing:
Take a plywood sheet and glue and screw lathe strips 2" apart, from one end to the other. These form the "lanes".
Lean one end of the track against a table with the other end on the floor or ground (a blanket or towel is useful as the run-off area)
Line the cars up on the table and fill the glasses with your preferred fuel.
At the "GO" signal, each racer must consume the contents of their Shot Car glass, place their car at the top of the track and let it roll to the bottom.
EVERYBODY IS A WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If one were to think that winning races was the point of this, one would be terribly mistaken.
But it is a hoot, none-the-less.

Typically we drink from these Shot Cars at social occasions.
Cute way to keep track of YOUR drink.

Personally I like to consume by sipping straight shots of good Bushmills Irish whiskey, with some water in another glass.

We never race with liquor in the glasses.
Considered bad form and at times... alcohol-abuse.

It IS a wonderful social lubricant.
Silly enough to be fun.

Only the trash-talking is serious.

You got a problem with that?

Corey,
I really look forward to seeing you in Galveston. Is this the first time for you?
If so, there are some initiation rituals that you will be subjected to.
See Ya,
Jason

I apologize if it's already been stated but,,,,when is this event being held...maybe I can take a short trip :spin: The beaches there look fantastic!

BTW, if I can go, I'll bring my kites but is there a place out there to rent a buggy and landboard?

Hey Sailors,
What a wonderful time at Dead Bird.

Too bad we forgot to race.

Hope all got a new Shot-Car - A memento of our good times together.

Bring them to the next event and even build a few to share.

Here's to you and Here's to me...
Friends forever we shall be.
If by chance we disagree...
Well, Happy Birthday!
Here's to ME!

After running SLP today on the buggy/mountainboard today... time to fuel up the car and test it out (again) to end the day.

Was a rain out last weekend at DBBB, but decent weather, an empty beach, and a couple friends out playing in the wind today at SLP.
