Has anyone negotiated hotel rates for the event? I know this has been done in past years but we haven't been since we had our daughter a couple years
ago and are not sure if the special rates still exist for the group.
Thanks!

Galveston is now running more cruise ships and as a result the hotels are reluctant to offer group rates as they usually fill up on weekends. Two
years ago AJ had a confirmed group rate with the Galvez and when the time came they wouldn't honor it.
So, everyone is pretty much on their own. Suggested hotel/motels are...
Sandpiper: Usually among the lowest rates, though I notice they have creeped up. It's close to East Beach and on the water. Room conditions tend to
vary widely. Beach front rooms are usually the best.
Beachcomber: Recently remodeled, winter rates are usually pretty low, but jump back up on weekends, like most of the hotels do now. Close to some of
the popular restaurant hangouts.
Super 8: Next to the Beachcomer (and Waffle House). Usually have good winter rates, big rooms, was able to pick up free wifi last time I stayed there.
Motel 6: Probably the cheapest, but not in the nicest part of town, imo. Too far from the popular restaurants we like to visit.
Comfort Inn: Close to East Beach (and across from the Sandpiper), very nice motel, but higher rates.
Here's a good link to shop for and book your rooms...
