Winter Kite skating(ice)..finally!

Okay...It's apparently on . Here just north of Boston, anyway.

Friday I stopped by my lake on my ride home after work, which had ended at noon. Did some thorough ice testing;.... chopping holes... reading frozen ice bubbles...talking measure of thickness..

After the initial cautiousness, there's the point where you then get comfortable, and then, excited..... because you realize you are going to get your kite and ride!

The ice was very good but winds were pretty low so it was a fine mellow- if slow- cruise around.

Today..... skipping and waiting out the likely wet, rainy mix to refreeze but there is a few inches of snow that fell today on top . Lake may be a surface for skis now unless the rainwater absorbed all the snow to a liquid first.

...we'll see, I haven't been back to see yet.

Anyone else been on ice or snow... kiting? Videos?

A deep freeze has started in New England. But not just that. Lots of strong winds coming with it.

The ice age cometh..

This years one and only winter day on ice

The kite itch kept the kids from having a blast, shoulda had a seat with the little guy in his sled. Oh well, next winter he'll be on skates too. Much thanks for the second session to the wife!

I think I should have left the short lines on as the extensions or just picked a lonelier lake on a perpendicular and a bigger kite, nevertheless couldn't of been happier unstropped on the scout in a gentle breeze.

Here in Toronto and in NH USA there is a lot of KiteWing/Kiteing on ice. Hockey skates are possible but not good for high speeds. Some use Nordic skates.
I made a pair of Blades of Doom :evil: that are a variation of Swedish High Skates that have been around for years in Sweden/Finland.
They fasten to your ski boots with non release bindings for a very solid high speed ride.,,,

Holy Ninja Knives Batman, those beasts are outstanding. I can picture you going about Mach 3 on those things. Welcome to PKF. I've been enjoying your early posts.

They are laser cut 1/8" SS......

Unlike Solid blades from Sweden, you can mount the WingBlade on a current day skate sharpener.....flat grind only...... if you put a 3/4" or 1" radius on blade it will be too grippy creating wide radius turns and extremely dangerous stopping. You want flat only.

those aren't skates, they're works of art.
are there any benefits of going higher other than a potentially greater lean angle and the possible ease of skating through deeper snow than a normal nordic skate?
the higher CG has got to feel pretty funky.
