Good time to go to Ivanpah?

Randy - 30-6-2017 at 08:55 AM

We were thinking of a trip Las Vegas sometime in late August or September possiblly even October. Would a side trip to Ivanpah be good that time of year?

Bob Muse (BeamerBob) lives nearby of course so he would likely be the best reference, but I'd think August and to a large extent September will still be pretty toasty. I just looked before writing this and Ivanpah now has temps fluctuating between mid 70's at daybreak to over 100 during the day. Dehydration City! I'd think by October things would be very pleasant.

Just throwing it out there Randy, Paul (Jeepersjoey) and I (and hopefully several others) will be on the playa in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Just sayin...

Interesting idea there Steve. Hmmm. Will think about it. I don't care too much if it is hot (well not tooooo hot) if there is some wind. Atlanta is pretty miserable hot too and humid. Hope Bob chimes in - maybe way to hot for all I know.

I used to live in both Atlanta and Charlotte, NC. Both hot as all get out with the humidity being an absolute killer! My wife really likes the Carolina's and in fact is a South Carolina grad but the humidity is a killer for me. Desert heat in the wind is something you need to stay aware of regarding dehydration, heat stroke, etc. I doubt the heat stroke stuff would be an issue below 110 F but it often gets hotter than that. Drink water, drink water, drink water. Repeat.

In the off chance you don't have this already, check out this link, anchored to Ivanpah:

Hope to see you this November!

Bobby Muse moved to Baton Rouge recently. Living large on the bayou now. He still would be a great source of information though :)

Yes! I knew that at IBX and then forgot it by June. He's already missed out here.
