I Need My Bearings For JIBE

frankiter - 30-4-2017 at 02:28 PM

I checked my buggy today and found out that my rear bearings are all gummed up. I guess the seals didn't hold up as well as I thought they would. Operator error in not maintaining them.:(

AWOC has them, but shipping in time for JIBE would be killer. I have a U2U in to Angus to see if he may still have some sitting around.

Best advice on where to get a set of 20mm bearings for my Bigfoot? Like this week?

I've ordered from VXB.com before and they came quick - at that time I ordered and had them shipped to Kent's shop in vegas and he was kind enough to accept and hold until I flew in, at that time it was a box of the 20mm Nachi bearings

Anybody know what bearings a Flexibility SS uses? My bearings seem OK but would like to have some spares.

acampbell - 30-4-2017 at 03:06 PM

Might have some at home and can check tomorrow. Those should be 15 mm. Flexifoil is what you meant, right.

If not, We have a Motion Industries store here. They get them overnight from their Alabama warehouse. I can get some this week. Not expensive. I ask for the cheap Asian ones.

The best bearings for JIBE are;

Latitude and longitude: 31.068565, -81.413429.

Or head south on 95 and turn left at the Flyin "J" truck stop.

Frank, I will get you a set. See my reply to randy. Just bring cookies

With new bearings you should be able to log 100 miles this year.
What's your record?

frankiter - 30-4-2017 at 04:00 PM

Angus, Thanks for your help. Am I even allowed to show up without cookies?

Davis, about 78 miles I think. Shooting to get at least a 100 this year. Onshore baby!

frankiter - 30-4-2017 at 04:03 PM

Oh, and thanks Mark. I did come across vxb, and they can be a fallback for me. But Angus is going to hook me up.

I used VXB as well they sent my bearings priority mail they arrived in 2 days in Portland ME. 10 for $13.00 for the 12mm
size.

TEDWESLEY - 1-5-2017 at 06:06 AM

Randy - Check the bearing size I have a flexi SS 2005 model and it uses 12mm they might well have gone to 15mm as
12mm not as robust. I have 4 12mm with me if you need them.

Thanks. I looks it takes a 15 mm (ID with OD about 35) as best as I can tell. But let's get together and see for sure.

acampbell - 1-5-2017 at 09:41 AM

I'll check my garage when I get home later, too.

Randy - 1-5-2017 at 10:29 AM

Thanks Angus!

BTW - this buggy came with some great bearings. While checking the size I spun the wheels. No giant push, just a quick spin. They continued to spin for 4 minutes +.

frankiter - 2-5-2017 at 06:19 PM

Well I got the bearings cleaned out as best I could, and the wheels are reassembled and back on the bug. I don't think they'll last long though, because they feel a little gritty, the seals are loose, and if you listen closely, they have a little squeal to them.

Thanks to Angus for helping me out with a new set, and to everyone else for their suggestions.

So for maybe one session, come on down to JIBE and hear my bearings roar!

Do you have plastic hubs? I would be careful with loud bearings and plastic hubs. You don't want to melt your wheel off the axle bolt. I had a bearing fail in the gearbox of my X-Maxx transmission which melted part of the gearbox casing and I had to replace the casing and the spur gear that it melted. It was a cheap and easy fix, but I would hate to be at a good clip and have that happen and drop my ass on the sand at 30 mph.

Frank, it's great that Angus can fix you up, but know that there is a Fastenal store in Brunswick. They stock the bearings for my PL Comp buggy at $2.64 ea for the backend (https://www.fastenal.com/products/details/0474391?term=beari...) and $1.82 for the front (https://www.fastenal.com/products/details/0474385?term=beari...).

Of course we don't know how much stock they have, but there's hope for folks who discover their bad bearings late in the game. I only checked mine tonight and got lucky---they're nice and quiet. :-)

May you be forever blessed with winds blowing onshore at a steady 13 knots.

Philip

Those ship from Fastenal in Indianapolis in 3-7 days. The ones I get from Motion Industries arrive locally for no extra charge in 1-2 days. The price works out the same as VXB when you factor in what VXB charges for 2-day priority mail.

Local knowledge! It can't be beat.

Errol,
Yes to the plastic hubs, and yes to being careful. I wouldn't want to treat everyone to an epic 30 mph OBE!

Phillip,
A steady onshore 13 knots can't be beat either!
