Official video dump thread

Demoknight - 5-5-2016 at 05:07 PM

Okay guys, I know not everyone in our group either has the time, or is comfortable editing their hours of footage down to the best juicy 7 minutes that we all love to jam out to after every event. I propose we all pool our video footage from JIBE in this thread in the form of Google Drive links so that all the talented videographers and editors in our group can sink their claws in and find all those perfectly framed fly-bys and close calls and put them into their own awesome movies.

Just for continuity's sake, let's limit it to Google Drive or Dropbox and dump any footage you have that you want us to all have access to if we choose to cut together some event footage to music or something.

If you have any specific clips that you know have some good shots, make sure to leave a note in your post like, "video 3 at 4:47 shows Jason run over a dog turd and fling a jellyfish into his face."

soliver - 5-5-2016 at 05:24 PM

I've experienced daily technical difficulties with my GoPro, so I gots nada... But great idea Errol ... I'm excited to see some good stuff!!!

Demoknight - 5-5-2016 at 05:50 PM

Here is my JIBE 2016 Google Drive folder:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B67OK3E75MTUMEV1bkhV...

It might show as empty right now, but that is just because my clips are still syncing to the drive. I will keep adding video as I take new footage before the end of the week.

3shot - 5-5-2016 at 05:51 PM

Ha! Lol. The one good riding day was Monday and left my gopro at the rental because we were running a little late to the party. Hope to get some footage Friday and Sat if wind cooperates.

Michael Gaylan - 5-5-2016 at 06:10 PM

Darn evidently I wasn't thinking at all. I left my entire gopro at home new batteries and all...

But I will keep my phone handy. Just got to figure out the drop box thingy.

That thing is better than a drone!!

I'm working on my vids, but not wild about the footage I got.

jrhook - 6-5-2016 at 04:45 AM

;) Great idea! I'll edit out all the dead air before dumping on the drive. Stay tuned...

Oh, wife says take the 2m Hornet, me..."no way I'll need that little thing" duh...

So now I have that blunder to tell her about ... Her "why don't you ever listen" me... "How is it you're always right?"

3shot - 6-5-2016 at 04:55 AM

That is some great looking RC footage!!! A cool refreshing perspective.

markite - 6-5-2016 at 05:16 AM

Hey Errol
Just had a chance to skim part of the first video - some great footage in there chasing people around. I love the little " ding" noise around 10:20 when I got rear ended. I'll check the buggy for any damage and get back to the lawyers with any back or neck pain issues.
Seriously that is super footage and I'll have to get my cameras out, missed Monday when it was fast and haven't taken anything with turbulent offshore winds.

ssayre - 6-5-2016 at 05:39 AM

Can't wait to watch these after work. Thanks for posting.

Hey -

Used GoPro Studio - seemed easiest to upload single (big) file of clips.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/dhqg5w5c80cq4i8/JIBE2016-WeldyClip...

3shot - 10-5-2016 at 05:43 PM

Errol. That chase scene in the first clip with Mark was Epic @ 10:02 :cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

All the vids were excellent! Hope you bring that RC back next year

Demoknight - 11-5-2016 at 07:42 AM

Yeah, the RC worked just as well as I hoped for getting some good low chase shots of several people. I will definitely bring it back next year. I will work on getting a gimbal for it to smooth out the footage and potentially grab a little FPV kit to frame shots on the fly easier. It is really tough to gauge distance to buggy once the rider and the RC get more than 100 feet away so with a few upgrades, I should be able to see what is going on a little easier.

markite - 11-5-2016 at 08:40 AM

I usually am browsing with safari (on a mac) and when I went to your video dump I could watch videos and click the download and i saw a download icon pop up in my downloads with a progress bar, but after trying several times it just sits and doesn't start a download. I launched Firefox and it worked fine.

What was that model of RC truck you have, it was fun trying it out and Fiona loved how you took Anna a beer and she put and empty in to send back to you.

bigkid - 11-5-2016 at 11:36 AM

Nice job guys, its like I was their.

Demoknight - 11-5-2016 at 12:03 PM

It is the Traxxas X-Maxx. They just released it during the holidays last year and I bought mine in February this year. The truck is almost entirely stock except for a 18 tooth pinion gear and some extra fans to go over the motor. It will go 30-35mph out of the box, but mine will get over 40mph with the pinion replacement. I could get a little more out of it if I swapped to a 50 tooth spur gear as well, but I have plenty of fun with it as it is right now. It is such a great RC. I have a nitro truck and a smaller electric as well, but neither even come close to the fun this big guy gives me.

Here is the official site: https://traxxas.com/products/landing/X-Maxx/

I bought mine from Visalia Hobbies: https://www.visaliahobbies.com/product/128041/TRA77076-4/

jrhook - 11-5-2016 at 02:26 PM

Back to work...uhhh
Just getting some vids out of the box and saw the talk of that screaming awesome RC machine... Too much fun if kiting isn't an option!

Demoknight - 11-5-2016 at 03:24 PM

Nice Jim! I was a little nervous when I flipped it with your camera on top. Those little buggers are really tough though. I ripped one of my cameras off the roof of it when it did a standing backflip from too much throttle on the street in front of our rental house. It gashed up the case pretty good but it still records great. I can't speak to whether or not it is still fully waterproof after taking such a hit though.

3shot - 11-5-2016 at 06:39 PM

Man I didn't know we had a beer delivery system in place at kite beach????

Anna was really far away from me, down at the water's edge, and was shaking an empty can at me. I put a full can in the bed of the truck and drove it over to her to swap out for the empty. I didn't have to stop the conversation I was having, and she didn't have to get up. It was perfect.

3shot - 12-5-2016 at 08:44 AM

Lol. Thats awesome

Blitzhound - 12-5-2016 at 09:09 AM

Very nice. I have a couple of old 2.5 T-Maxx's and an E-Maxx I've had them for years. One I have really worked over. With aluminum chassis, shock towers, differentials, fuel tank, skid plates, disk brakes, and frame rails. High density Nylon A-arms, stainless CV drive shafts, Titanium Tie rods, spools in both differentials. I forget the gear ratios. But I've clocked it at 63mph. Sorry to get off topic. Great videos by the way.

I have a T-Maxx 2.5 also. At the time I ran it, I didn't do much to it but get aluminum skid plates. Everything else on it was stock. I have seen lots of the X-Maxxes that will get over 60mph, but there aren't many wheel options for it yet that don't involve custom CNC wheel hubs, and the stock tires balloon like pizza cutters past 45mph. It is really hard to control and keep in a straight line above 40mph. Mine tops out at full throttle a little over 41mph, but it is really squirrely.

Please excuse my language in that second video. My tongue gets sharp with my kites when they misbehave. Mainly when I misbehave and they are just doing what I tell them.

that last video is funny for the last few minutes when you thought the battery was dead but was still recording - thanks for posting more clips

Demoknight - 12-5-2016 at 12:25 PM

Yeah, the lights were out on the camera and it looked like a dead battery. That is odd that it was still recording with the light off and screen black/off. I went through some of the videos and can't find my deadman turn. On the first attempt, I hit the tidal pool and lost all my speed, and on the second attempt I pulled it off. I still had a lot of speed from the first successful one, so I tried to bang out another and hit the tidal pool again. That is why I got covered in sand for the rest of the videos. Too bad I missed it on the camera. It missed one of the funniest faceplants I have ever performed.

markite - 12-5-2016 at 12:48 PM

I found with that little ledge beach divider with the tidal pool and the tide slightly in that it was tougher to get the right speed and angle when we had those Reactor 8.6's out to do the deadman in the usual spots. I dragged it around a couple of times as well running out of room and then switched to that Spirit 6.8 for a little lighter and faster kite speed to get it around and worked out good - but I still love that many of us found a good deep water splash or face full of whale snot once in a while.

Demoknight - 12-5-2016 at 02:42 PM

It wouldn't be a complete JIBE trip without a few really good full stop splashes.

Randy - 13-5-2016 at 05:33 AM

Here's what I got.

soliver - 13-5-2016 at 06:53 AM

It may be just me, Mark, but I'm not seeing anything from your link.

markite - 16-5-2016 at 09:49 AM

Ahh okay this is the first time I've set up a folder on Google, it looks like I have viewing set to owner, I'll try and figure it out to make it public - thanks for the heads up Spencer

Okay see if the link works now - I found a shareable link and updated the link in my previous post

ssayre - 16-5-2016 at 10:07 AM

I use google drive. If I remember right you go to advanced then sharing options

ssayre - 16-5-2016 at 10:08 AM

I just checked mine. highlight the file you want to share, right click, choose share, choose advanced.

markite - 16-5-2016 at 10:33 AM

thanks, I changed the settings and copied the new shared link and updated the earlier post - let me know if it's still a no show.

That's a pretty orange kite!

jrhook - 16-5-2016 at 02:19 PM

Very cool stuff coming down the pipe here!

After 2 years of hauling a few kites and a board down to JIBE, I can see what all the fuss is about. Such an amazing place for kiting...even if the wind doesn't cooperate, you get the feeling it wants to very badly! It was a pleasure to get to know many of you a bit this time around and now I'm officially HooS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-ed on JIBE annually.

Couldn't resist cleaning this video up a tad and honoring the Monday winds that many of us enjoyed. Not sure of the entire cast of characters but certainly close-ups would have revealed huge grins on the faces.

Oh, and this was back when I still had my harness...Ted I'll be u2'ing u with details of where that little rascal belongs!

Hmmm... Looks blocked on YouTube James.
Says copyright... Great video on Google drive though. Thanks for sharing.

One thing I would like to do next year at JIBE is like what Big Kid did at WBB a few years ago. Slap on a go pro and actually go around to all the people and have them say hello to the camera. And introduction so to speak. Name, PKF name, where you are from, etc.

@Jim- I feel honored to be your mentor and it seems you are beginning to master my number one skill- the controlled crash:D enjoyed given you a few pointers on Monday - now you just need to stay hooked in and you will progress so much faster and fall less on your face and more on your rear.

jrhook - 20-5-2016 at 07:41 AM

I was working last night on my footage from the SSI sunset session from Thursday of last week. Havin a little trouble downloading the footage, but what I have looks really good. I'll share ASAP.
