Alvord Desert

Has anyone been to the Alvord Desert in SE Oregon? It's about 80 square miles of flat hard ground. A 10 by 10 mile lakebed.

I've been wanting to. I hear it is a fantastic, but a very remote location. Anything you'll need, you need to bring it with ya.

I've considered trying to make a stop there in conjuction with a trip to NABX. But just hasn't panned out yet. Hopefully this time around.

Haven't been there myself yet, but I’ve heard that Alvord dry lake is 75% buggy-able. The map lists several other dry lakes in the area: Christmas lake is a bit closer to Eugene, do you know if it’s usable? I've wondered about Turnbull dry lake, it looks huge on the map!
Hmmm….With the holidays and some vacation time to burn, guess a scouting road trip will be in order soon...

I'f my memory is correct christmas lake was scrubby, but Fort rock was worth seeing. Summer lake just south of there has exposed lakebed and a hotsprings and campground. There are a few other dry lakes near Alvord, and hotsprings. But alvord is the biggest.
