Safety?

xxxBUGGYPILOTXXX - 4-4-2014 at 12:10 PM

Broken bones already
Not exactly an epic start on a safety track record for this event:puzzled:

I think I know the problem though---
Not enough didgeridoos:smilegrin:

I got hit in the toe with a ping pong paddle at work today. A the little girl threw it high in the air and gave me a nice blue nail to not think about.

We're never equipped with didgeridoos, thanks for clearing up my safety problem:thumbup:

A local got pulled out of his buggy in a gust while he was making a turn while riding the day before the event started. He turned the kite loose but it already had him moving. His name is Ken Gustin. His shoulder will require surgery to put everything together right, but the Dr. expects recovery to be weeks instead of months.

Regarding safety and a reflection on the event, I'm not sure how the event could've changed the outcome of this accident. Technically, the event didn't start till the next day and Ivanpah is where Ken rides every time since it's his home turf. He was wearing his safety equipment and yet the situation got the best of him. Everyone has to make up their own minds about equipment choices, and evaluating conditions when deciding about going out.

AHA,

This finally makes more sense.

I heard about a " LOCAL " getting injured PRE-event . I was there. It was a typical Ivanpah day with kite on the ground and then yanking your arms off all in the same minute. + Dust Devils !!! Scary stuff after missing a year! Not your typical day at the beach !

Careful judging things from a distance ! From here it looks more to me like that is a bong not a didgeridoo you are blowing smoke from !

I honestly thought this was going to be a rant about IBB and NAPKA going overboard on the safety thing . I don't think you can ever stress safety enough but it was discussed , believe me ! It had to be that way with IBB and NAPKA both combining for their 1st event with sanctioned races and clinics. Knowing we had Sean and a few others there , the safety talk on introduction + before races and all the proper equipment was very pleasing to see !

I knew that those willing to stick their heads out to make this event go off safely would be subject to all sorts of negativity like this. That is why I chose to duck my head and allow Big Kid to take on folks like you on. The event is over and coming home to read your digeri doo doo really tells me I made the right choice ! + puts a sour spot on my morning.

I want to thank Jeff for having the HOOJ BALLS it took to put himself in such a spot ! + all those who worked so hard to make it happen and find a way to all work together. I would have been walked all over by people on all sides. NONE of you deserve anything but praise for making this the Best IBB ever ! The 1st time always is ! You guys worked through some very tough times and a lot of negativity. Yet you managed to keep the event the MOST INCLUSIVE event I have ever attended at Ivanpah !:thumbup: I think if I didn't say hello to every single person this year it is because they said hello to me 1st! Of course I only remember your online names .

Keep it safe and KEEP IT REAL ! ;)
