Parking your kite at the edge of a window

dangerdan - 5-12-2013 at 04:00 PM

They make it look so easy in You Tube. I have tried it with my 2M Beamer but I really have to work at it by constantly working the brakes. In any video I have seen they just park it. I tried looking at the handles to see what's going on but so far no luck.

Is this because my kite is to small ??

Need more wind.....

check your U2U's i've sent you a message about keeping in touch and getting out to fly together
Mark
PS- yes sounds like more wind is needed to hold the small kite - until you get a little skill and i can help you there.

it's not the size of your kite, but how you fly it, so she said.......

My wife disagrees with you

Are you static flying? It can be hard to keep any kite at the edge of the window when static flying. If you're in motion, you just need more wind. ;D

nah, it's not all about wind speed.

any wind if the kite is flyable, is enough wind to stall and milk off speed at the edges while flying static. You just might have to use more gentle feathering and not horse it around like a moose. But yes forward motion is paramount.

my video:

Watch the whole thing or Fast forward to the end of video of my stunt kite I filmed landing it at window edge. No it's not a foil, but use the same light touch at the window edge, even with a noticeable weight and heavy gopro on-board totally changed the CG of the kite, you can tell it nose stalls and is heavy to horse around..........nice winds though at the beach that day with lots of forward momentum..........

but just use Porsche finesse and bleed air.

From my limited experience in the buggy (and I learn fast) I found that wind speed, and buggy speed together makes keeping the kite "parked" in the window. Much like a perfect storm or the happy medium so to speak. If the wind is fast and buggy slow, you will find yourself dropping (zigzagging) the kite into the window. However if the buggy (in the same wind) is going fast enough, you can park the kite and just ride. So just the opposite is true in lighter winds.

Smaller kites do need much more wind than large kites to give you the pull and "park" you're looking for. The smaller the kite the more finicky the kite will be in the wind. In other words they are typically quicker.

I have a Advance Offroad 7.1 that would be perfect for a buggy (IMHO). It has great pulling power and yet slower turns than most kites, so the kite will "sit" in the window of fast winds easier than say a "fast" kite in low winds. Again just my opinion from my limited experience.

cheers

All of the above are correct. I have a beamer V 2m and it does not park nicely on the edge of the window nicely as the bigger kites, especially if there's not enough wind (you still can fly it, but it needs attention to stay at the edge of the window). It's not really an issue as you don't need to park it at the edge of the window (so reduce power so that you could relax or move around) since it's so small. I don't think you'll need much pratice for parking a kite at the edge of the window either as there's not much trick to it - just fly it to the edge and hold the lines...

I tried something similar with my 2M kite. The wind was fairly strong and I tried to park the kite and it was all over the place but once I did a fast walk with the wind, the kite settled in and just stayed in one spot. It was magic.
