mougl - 15-7-2013 at 01:14 PM

Michael Gaylan - 15-7-2013 at 02:20 PM

So let me get the straight... 10 bucks to get the body there, and 200 bucks to get the peripherals there? Does that about sum it up?

hmm

mougl - 15-7-2013 at 02:31 PM

This JIBE is shaping up to be kick arse. Ill have a Seancam mounted on the back of the Corsair for when I'm not on the water

csa_deadon - 16-7-2013 at 12:23 AM

Hmmm, now that's got me thinking Scott. How to sink a Corsair...........:evil::evil:

What Scott doesn't understand is, I have 300 days to think of some evil, silly, funny, dorkish thing to do to him.

:P:P

mougl - 16-7-2013 at 05:18 AM

Sean...I have 300 days as well...299 now

I don't know if you have the option to use SW Airlines, but I would recommend them for their generous baggage policy; It's how I get to NABX.

If you need to ship what you can't pack, ship to here under my name at

http://exit29postal.com/Default.aspx

...they host my commercial shipping address and John there always takes good care of you. His return shipping costs are full retail like any commercial shipping store, but he is a JIBE supporter and will take care of any special needs. He is just 1 mile from Interstate 95 exit 29 where you would come from Jacksonville Int'l Airport (JAX, just 45 min. to the south) and from there it is just 12 miles to Jekyll Island.

If you need more help or info, let me know.

I play to an 8 handicap but love the game and enjoy teeing it up with anyone..........:lol::duh::duh:

Demoknight - 28-2-2014 at 12:26 PM

Praying I can find a place that will at least let me car camp if I can't find somewhere to pitch a tent.

acampbell - 28-2-2014 at 02:21 PM

there are openings at the campground. I just called them. 912-635-3021

Demoknight - 28-2-2014 at 02:40 PM

Crazy because when I checked online it said they were slammed full. Oh well, guess I should have picked up the phone first. Angus you rock man! Thanks for the heads up!

acampbell - 28-2-2014 at 03:04 PM

Great! I will still urge people to book early. The Triathlon is the same weekend again, and while that event does not impact or interfere with ours, it does bring more people to the island.

I'm going to fix up the web site this weekend. I had thought I would have had more time to work on it when I was on medical leave, but that kind of work does not happen when on narcotics, LOL.

Bladerunner - 2-3-2014 at 01:42 PM

Life has taken a few turns in 2014. Looks like I have to put off JIBE until next year. Sean can represent from out West this year and hopefully I can be the token Westerner next year . Real disappointing since I have been planning on meeting you all for a long time now.

On a positive note, I will be able to get to IB2 as a trade off.

PHREERIDER - 2-3-2014 at 05:56 PM

bummer , but still ridin! is a good thing

USA_Eli_A - 21-4-2014 at 08:45 PM

wish I could join ya's

acampbell - 22-4-2014 at 02:02 PM

Picked up parking permits for the Kite Fort from Jekyll Island Authority today. All systems go. Sea breeze is starting to fire up pretty regularly. Looks good for that huge new moon in mid May.

Demoknight - 22-4-2014 at 02:24 PM

So stoked to come down and ride with you guys...

3shot - 22-4-2014 at 04:04 PM

Oh look. And another day has ticked by!!!

PHREERIDER - 22-4-2014 at 04:20 PM

first of the sea breeze moved in today. looks good for S breeze for a while. good sign!

Demoknight - 23-4-2014 at 12:47 PM

So there is enough sand between the dunes and the water at low tide to still get pretty good rides out of north or south winds too, right? I am going to pray to the wind gods that week to have straight onshore, but just in case they do not find my virgin sacrifice pretty enough...

Right near the launch point is a wide area of beach I imagine you could do short runs on with any wind direction, even at higher tides :-) Rest assured if the wind is blowing you can find a good time.

In onshore winds, the entire east side of the island is practically unlocked. The beach eventually narrows on the north end, but it's miles away and in a good wind you can find the upper limits.

acampbell - 23-4-2014 at 03:59 PM

Yeah unless there is a major anomalous weather system to upset the norm, the default wether patterns promote a pretty reliable sea-breeze in the afternoons. But to answer your original question, yes, at low tide you have a football field or more to work with and with a kite that goes upwind well, you can cut some crazy diagonals.

We will have a new big moon this year with a resulting spring tide (big). This is even without the big sand bar that appears in such conditions looks like you can go half way to the Bahamas. But alas it is covered with slippery whale snot and not ridable.

Just remember, every day and every tide leaves a new topography on the beach with new tidal pools, gullies and rivlets. And every sandcastle has a hole next to it.

waltweb - 24-4-2014 at 12:13 AM

Well due to Virgin's policy of allowing one free sports bag, it looks like I'll be bringing my Peter Lynn folding bug with me!
So great times will be had riding this fabulous beach.

:D:D

Demoknight - 24-4-2014 at 07:27 AM

My road trip buddy confirmed a big fat YES that we are driving and not flying, so I will actually be able to bring all my gear. Buggy, board, and all three wings. I have anything but storm winds and no winds covered :)

3shot - 24-4-2014 at 08:57 AM

Awesome. Who da road trip buddy?

Demoknight - 24-4-2014 at 09:00 AM

ilivni on the forums. He is the only kiter here in Chicago that I regularly fly with. He is a landboarder, but he is starting to like riding my buggy more every time he tries it :) Maybe he will be a convert at JIBE!

3shot - 24-4-2014 at 12:10 PM

Cool. I'm sure lots of us will be converts of some sort after JIBE!!! This will be my first major kite event meet up. I'm sure I'll be changed forever.

Ahhhhh.... I can taste the ice cold beverages already. Sittin' around after a full days run swappin' all the tales and experiences

3shot - 24-4-2014 at 01:40 PM

Hell yeah!!! ROADTRIP!!!!

acampbell - 24-4-2014 at 03:16 PM

You guys have a safe trip. Assure ilivni that landborders are most welcome! (But we will keep a buggy handy for him).

mougl - 24-4-2014 at 05:16 PM

Sounds like this year is shaping up to be one of the best events yet! Wish I could be there :(

csa_deadon - 24-4-2014 at 10:25 PM

Getting stoke for my first East Coast event. Have stocked up on the West Coast handle warmers to pass out to you East Coast people!

acampbell - 25-4-2014 at 05:02 AM

Handle warmers? Dude you are coming to Georgia in the late Spring. I'd say bring ice cubes but I'll have plenty of those. That's why we have a seabreeze!!

PHREERIDER - 25-4-2014 at 05:09 AM

sunshine , hot sand -->make good wind

Yep, he knows about the hospitality that goes on. He gets all the time he wants on my buggy as it is :) Hopefully everything will work out so that I get my buggy parts from Van before we have to pack up. Getting a half a cricket basically. Rails, axle, pads and seat. The only shiny stainless that will be left is the downtube and fork. I think it will be a perfect match for my extra wides. It should look and ride awesome! I can't wait!

Even at just 2 hours after HIGH tide there is plenty of beach to ride.

I can't wait... I'll be tearing up the sandbar on East Beach on Saint Simons in preparation during the first half of the week then stoked to join y'all on JI Thursday.

Fiona and I hit the road very early morning saturday to start the drive - stop overnight in W. Virginia and should arrive sometime Sunday afternoon and stay through to the following Sunday. We'll probably come over to check out St Simons at some point since we had a very brief look at it last year and I'll keep an eye out for you Spencer but if it's a good buggy wind I'll probably be rolling on jekyll.

csa_deadon - 1-5-2014 at 11:36 AM

Arriving Tuesday May 13th and return the following Monday. Can't wait to share the beach with all of you, and put a face to some of the names.

3shot - 1-5-2014 at 04:55 PM

Really getting close now. Final kite and peripheral check, prep, and pack this weekend :D

Hmmm.....
Just checked the NAPKA site. Only 11 signed up for attendance so far? :puzzled:

Are we supposed to register for JIBE on the NAPKA site? I have my NAPKA membership but wasn't looking at a registration for JIBE there - no races, what's to register for there? I'll go have a look.

3shot - 1-5-2014 at 06:00 PM

Per Angus:

"New and existing NAPKA members should register for JIBE by going to "Upcoming Events" at the napka.org home page, then click JIBE 2014, then click "Register for Event". It's fast and easy, and lets me know that you're attending."

http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=28055

markite - 1-5-2014 at 08:40 PM

Right, I was checking back for that message. As it's a new thing With NAPKA I think some people may have their NAPKA numbers but aren't looking for the actual event registration there and there will be more people coming than showing on the registration page. I just added myself - thanks for the heads up on it

acampbell - 2-5-2014 at 03:29 AM

Right. I think we are under registered on the NAPKA site. I know a lot of locals are not up to speed with the new deal and I will work on that. Thanks everybody for tracking this. Numbers should be similar to last year, maybe more. Remember that because we are a vacation destination, a lot of attendees are non riding and are not required to register. I look forward to seeing y'all.

flyguy0101 - 2-5-2014 at 06:26 AM

Alright - i have registered but where to you see who has already registered? just curious...

soliver - 8-5-2014 at 07:49 AM

Tut tut looks like rain :(... Last forecasts I checked said rain Tuesday and Wednesday, then overcast Thursday. It's still a little early yet though... Hopefully it won't be anything but a sprinkle.

PHREERIDER - 8-5-2014 at 09:20 AM

THATS GREAT DON!

acampbell - 9-5-2014 at 03:43 AM

Don, give my best to Nate and his bride. Congrats to all.

Spencer it's too early to tell about the weather. We have a nasty front moving in from the west but we have our regular high pressure system right off the coast to push back against it. Clash of the titans. High pressure usually wins. Local TV weathermen use the phrase "sea breeze" in almost every sentence lately.

soliver - 9-5-2014 at 05:14 AM

I second the congrats to your family Don... CONGRATS!!!

Thanks for the reassurance on weather, Angus... I was thinking that it was too early to trust the forecasts, but it's been on my mind. Thanks again.

He he he, I started packing yesterday

markite - 9-5-2014 at 11:04 AM

what a crazy week of work trying to squeeze in things before we leave - 4 nights in a row of 2 1/2 hrs sleep ....still have to start finding things to pack - much, much work to do and want to get on the road in.....15 - 16 hrs from now (no later than 5:30 am to hit the border at Buffalo early)

what do I need to bring? ....... so much to do but looking forward to it.

soliver - 9-5-2014 at 12:40 PM

Uh... Some kites and a couple of buggies maybe... And maybe Fiona?

Demoknight - 9-5-2014 at 04:28 PM

Wish I could pack my girlfriend... She would come in handy. Plus she likes to fly kites as well. I am hoping to teach her how to buggy soon now that the weather is warm and she isn't miserable and freezing.
