wind conditions

3shot - 6-6-2013 at 03:39 PM

What are the typical/normal wind conditions like during the week of JIBE?
Direction, windspeed, etc?

I'm coming to the next JIBE :D. I have a year to plan, and want to make sure my FB engines are covered.

Thanks

typical, without forecast ,expect 10-15 seabreeze onshore to side on

mostly SOUTH and add thermal heat in this area of GA gives nice on shore feel

not much more than 20 as a peak but ...a wide range of sizes and types. gearing for light <10 would be a solid start

You should do fine with anything in the 3m to 5m range.

This last JIBE, I mostly had out my 4m and 5m Cores. I flew my 2.6m Viper a little, but it really was just for a little to practice some harness flying, but it didn't do a lot for me.

The last few trips to Jekyll, I've favored my 4m.

My 5.5 RII wasn't cutting it this past year but in 2012, a 5.5 would have been lunacy. Bring them all

I have two sails that rocked the last two JIBES.........17m Ozone Zephyr and 15m FS Silverarrow 2.......like Phree mentioned a lightwind rig is necessary for noon thru 2pm runs........after 2 the wind usually picks up so you can drop down to 4-6m on FB and 8-12m on depowers............if you don't have a lightwind rig and I'm not on the aqua, you're welcome to use one of mine but you will need to be familiar with depow.............

Thanks tridude. No experience with depower. If my 6.9 RII can't haul my but, I'll just have to sit it out and enjoy adult beverages lol

Good call. Your quiver looks fine. And there will be lots of other kites around to sample. And some beverages for après kite.
