Montana7 Help

jooopy - 5-6-2013 at 10:00 AM

Hi I need some help figuring out some M7 issues. First off I chose the M7 thanks to many opinions in this group. I have only flown static FB to learn on. The M7 has safeties which I wasn't born knowing about. Yes somebody can tell me what to do with the finger how to set up lines etc. When how and why I need the to use the safeties etc. I'll be happy to buy a dvd or whatever .... didn't they used to come with the kite? Speaking of which whats up HQ no stake or DVD? Peter Lynn at least gave me some stickers. Not dissin on HQ as I know this is going to be a great product but wth? Got a couple of bugs. Need some help using my new toy. :)

The tophat safety will flag the kite on the back lines and kill your power almost completely. Over 99%. It is your first response to things going wrong or if you think they are likely to. If things are still getting worse or a tangled kite caused your tophat safety to not be effective, save life and limb by pulling the secondary safety to completely disengage you from the kite. Many recommend using a leash to guard against accidentally unhooking from the chicken loop. These also have a safety release so you could still completely disengage from the kite.

Stay away from a dealer that picks and chooses what they want to "bother with you" about. There are many on here that would love to have you as a loyal customer and will treat you like one from the beginning.

I think all of the questions you are asking are answered in the user manual and if that was not provided then click here http://www.powerkites.de/tycon/file.php?id=744 and download the M6 manual and read up (M7 does not seem to be posted where I normally look).

Some companies don't provide DVDs and manuals anymore as part of their "green" initiatives and I don't think any depower kites come with stakes. Though still totally necessary I think the depower kites throw the leash in and the fixed bridle kites get the stake thrown in. You only need one though so if you have one and the M7 didn't come with it, I see no foul there.

PM your address and I'll send you some HQ stickers.

Did you buy the kite "used"?

put the loop in the hook of the harness .. then put the finger between the loop and the hook. The finger just holds the loop in the hook so it does not fall out. I will try and find a pic for you.

Thanks Dino I see that pretty clear I don't think mine has or is used w a leash but I may be wrong. Or is this an option on M7?

B-Roc - 7-6-2013 at 02:49 PM

A leash is not required for a top hat safety like the M7 uses. It is only used to make sure the kite doesn't get away from you if it becomes unhooked and you drop the bar.

this is really a great help for those who need to see the particulars rather than just read about them. hope this helps you as much as it has helped me... :karate:

That goes back to the Montana 2 but the general arrangements are going to be similar.

What are you gong to be doing with the kite? Buggy, landboard, skis? You need to put a de-power into motion for it to behave as you expect.

Where are you and do you have anyone local to help?

In Tx by old Mex & New Mexico. Looks like Albaquerque and Midland are closest kiters-I'm Learning buggy skills w/ FB kites. 2.5 hrs one way 5 hrs the other way. logs might be here at home but he surfs it.
