JIBE Dates 2014

acampbell - 16-5-2013 at 12:53 PM

Looks like according to tide tables, (thanks Ted), Dates for JIBE 2014 will be Wednesday May 14 through Saturday May 17. Low tide is 3pm on the 14th.

I will confirm with Jekyll Island Authority but I cannot imagine any obstacles at this point.

I know a lot of you want to start working on vacation rental reservations.

Thanks everybody for making JIBE 2013 a great success. As usual, if you need info or assistance for 2014, let me know.

Web site to be modified shortly.

Angus

tridude - 16-5-2013 at 02:10 PM

But the question is what are you arranging!!!

3shot - 17-5-2013 at 05:05 PM

Found a nice rental. Just waiting for the "all's clear".
:D

mougl - 17-5-2013 at 05:14 PM

Sean, bro...do you REALLY want to know?????

knkmannthey - 17-5-2013 at 07:27 PM

Next year is a must. It was to much fun this year

soliver - 17-5-2013 at 08:38 PM

I'll do my best to be back... Weenie roasting and all!!!

soliver - 18-5-2013 at 05:22 PM

ok so I just figured this all out...

The JIBE dates for next year will be simultaneous with our annual family Saint Simons Island trip. That said, I won't be able to come more than one day early to late. I'll probably come Thursday.

Unfortunately that means our new tradition will have to be hosted by someone else, so who's gonna host the JIBE WEENIE ROAST????? ... hey that rhymed... cool ... we don't have to get all into haiku again tho...

That also means (Scott) if you want to come ride the uber huge and completely deserted sandbar on the north end of SSI during your "pregame" let me know.

3shot - 18-5-2013 at 06:06 PM

Yea, might be my girl's SOL testing that week next year.
All I can do is lay a deposit down for the cottage and hope for the best.
Won't know the school schedule till about a week before it starts again this fall.
Wifey seems pretty sure it falls that week:(.
Fingers crossed....

Of course!!! Though Ashli and the girls lose interest relatively quick, even with the tandem. I think they might come for a little while and head back to SSI ... though that is a little less than a year away so it is all has plenty of time to be determined...

Drewculous - 19-5-2013 at 06:19 PM

sweet! i just have to convince my buddy to move his wedding so i can make it...................... Grooms listen to Best Mans right?

i think i have a tricky travel time come JIBE next year.....

rocfighter - 21-5-2013 at 05:14 AM

Sandy has already TOLD me we are going back next year. (she didn't get to see the alligator) Plus I have a tandem set-up now so she can ride along. I hope to bring the rest of the Skydog crew as well.

acampbell - 21-5-2013 at 01:12 PM

JIBE dates for 2014 are cleared by JIA. All systems go. A few snags this year pointed out by JIA but I will point this out in another thread.

Reservations made last week! Woohoo!
Can't wait to meet everyone and gain tons of knowledge firsthand!

waltweb - 25-7-2013 at 11:45 AM

I am planning a trip during this time, so I am thinking of spending a few days at the event. I can bring my kites and equipment but is there any chance of a spare buggy?

Steve Walt Webb. UK :)

mougl - 25-7-2013 at 04:45 PM

There are always spare buggoes at JIBE. :) My buggies are community provided my hind quarters aren't planted in one

acampbell - 25-7-2013 at 05:16 PM

Yeah and I think I will have a spare ride. What is difficult to accommodate is the occasional visitor who shows up for a few hours and expects a buggy to be at hand right away. It sometimes does not work out. But if you are here for a few days then yeah, you will get multiple rides,

Also considering that that you are coming from a distance, I think you will get some slack. This year we got the Canadians in (and let us not forget Fiona from the UK). So if i can tell the Jekyll Island Authority and local newspapers (it's a small town) that buggiers are coming from the UK, then yeah, we can get you a ride, LOL.

Let me know if I can do anything to help with your arrangements. We will be happy to welcome you.

waltweb - 26-7-2013 at 03:17 AM

ThanS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s for that info Angus & mougl. I will be in the US for 2 weeks and I plan to be at JIBE for around 3 days.

I will give you more info as my holiday plans progress.

regards
Steve Walt Webb K741

acampbell - 31-12-2013 at 11:55 AM

I normally will have put up the JIBE site updates and edits about now for the new Year but it will have to wait until February. I'll be out of town and on leave for much of January and don't know how much internet access I'll have until the end of the month.

Happy New Year everybody!

3shot - 31-12-2013 at 04:46 PM

Thanks for the update Angus!

csa_deadon - 1-1-2014 at 06:00 AM

Only 131 days till I board a jet plane for my first East Coast venture!!!

Have lots of things in store for Scott!!

waltweb - 1-1-2014 at 11:42 PM

I've just booked my hotel for 14th-17th May. Depending on how I can juggle the weight, I might be packing my Peter Lynn folding buggy and bringing it with me?

Looking forward to meeting you all. Have a good New Year.

Until then......;)

3shot - 20-1-2014 at 05:38 PM

Man. Can almost see the light :D

Michael Gaylan - 21-1-2014 at 06:12 AM

SO is the weather still looking good for the JIBE? This anxiety is just taunting me! COME TO ME ! ! AND FLY ! !

PHREERIDER - 21-1-2014 at 07:09 AM

it'll be fine

acampbell - 21-1-2014 at 09:26 AM

We will again bank on the seasonal default weather patterns for the spring that are usually good for riding. This consists of a regular high pressure system sitting off the Carolinas, turning clockwise and delivering winds with an easterly component to the shores to the south. Anything with some east in it is a good start for us. Then the next thing that happens is that the island heats up in the afternoon sun, and the resulting thermal action creates a vacuum that draws the wind right off the water for the perfect seabreeze.

The only thing that can mess up this process is the occasional (and unusual for the time of the year) western frontal system that can push through with lumpy western winds. Sometimes however when this happens, the seabreeze effect is strong enough to push back the westerlies. Of course if this does happen then you get warm moist wind off the water clashing with a westerly, then you get KABOOM! But the boomers blow through quickly. The permanent forecast from May through September is "scattered afternoon thunderstorms" but you can see them coming from miles away and they often pass by.

So there are no guarantees but that has been the general pattern the last few years. If you show up for one day and expect perfect riding conditions then you are rolling the dice, but if you can stay a few days then others here will tell you that you will likely get your lock-and-load hammer-dropping ride.

3shot - 21-1-2014 at 05:02 PM

I'll be there Sunday to Sunday!!!

acampbell - 21-1-2014 at 05:13 PM

Great! There will be several others on the same schedule. Let me know if you Ned any help with arrangements or plans. There will be a lot to do in the mornings while waiting for the afternoon low tides. Especially if you have family coming along.

3shot - 21-1-2014 at 05:45 PM

Yes, Angus. My wife and two kids are coming as well. that's why we picked JIBE over many others. Seasonal weatner, and lots for them to do too. They enjoy me kiting, but they enjoy other activities too. We booked a cottage the whole week. My gosh I can't wait.....

tridude - 25-1-2014 at 08:49 AM

Booked at the Hampton...............

kiteplace - 3-3-2014 at 06:23 PM

I'll be there the 11th to the 18th.

kitemaker4 - 5-3-2014 at 08:52 AM

Well, Beau said it was time to go check out this thing called Jibe. So, I made my reservations at the park to camp for the week of the event. Beau and I are looking forward to meeting everyone on the east coast. Here come the nasa wings.

Susan (npw goddess)

acampbell - 5-3-2014 at 10:13 AM

Yay!!

chris - 5-3-2014 at 11:01 AM

Great news, Susan!

markite - 5-3-2014 at 01:24 PM

too many things not working out to make IBB this year but Fiona and I have a placed booked on Jekyll from May 11-18 - looking forward to it. It'll probably be the first buggy run of the year if the snow sticks around through April (at the rare it's been staying cold this winter)

acampbell - 5-3-2014 at 03:15 PM

Great Mark! Looking forward to seeing y'all. We have already seen the sea breeze fire off several times - then we get more of that polar vortex nonsense. Please make sure there is non of that on your vehicle ;-).

Susan if you and Beau need any help with local arrangements, let me know. We all look forward to welcoming you to the Golden Isles Region. Our beach is Beau friendly with leash but well-behaved canines are generally tolerated off leash with a look the other way. Just no going south of the southern water tower for... Wait for it... Plovers.

kitemaker4 - 5-3-2014 at 04:47 PM

Thanks Angus but Beau has reserved a spot for me at the camp ground. I also make him stay on leash at all times and make him pick up after himself.

As you prolly have seen by now the web site still has last years dates. I wanted to fix last weekend but will try again this weekend. Every thing else like travel info and general format is pretty current.

We'll commiserate. I'm rehabbing my chest but it looks good. I'm leaning to depower 100 % to spare the upper body. And then there's always Aunt B's cookies if nothing else works.

csa_deadon - 9-3-2014 at 01:08 AM

Getting stuff ready for the trip south to Primm, but I have to say I'm getting excited about my first buggy trip back east. Looking forward to put faces to the names.

Will be bringing one of a kind Pacific NorthWest Handle Warmers!

mougl - 9-3-2014 at 03:33 PM

For the first time in 5 years, my ability to attend is questionable at best. Keeping fingers crossed though. Between work, and a few other things going on, time is a commodity I may not have.
