Access Harness: Jumping and chicken loop wear.

elfasa - 30-4-2013 at 03:31 AM

Hey all,
I received my new (to me) access harness today. I went with the D ring version, as I've been getting more and more annoyed with spreader bars digging into my stomach.

Two questions regrading the harness:

- On the harness there is this sticker:

(Sorry about the orientation.)

I do plan on jumping with it. Will this be a problem ? I know loads of people do jump with it, both in buggies and boards (of various descriptions). Is ozone just covering their back ?

- With the chicken loop going through the metal D ring on the harness I am a little concerned the loop will damage quite quickly. Is there anything I can do to slow this, some kind of protection or something perhaps ?

Cheers!
Tim

First off, I own the newer one with a webbing loop instead of the d-ring, but I think they're pretty much the same besides that.

Well, It hasn't dropped me yet...:duh: And IMHO it looks much more reliable than many other harnesses.

Yes. You truly aren't supposed to use the harness for flying, though.

You could protect the loop with a piece of flexible tube or something like that. That's what I did when I used a carabiner.

I use mine snowkiting and so far jump more on snow than any other type of kiting! probably cos i am very comfortable on a snowboard which makes up for any lack of technique kite wise!

So yeah its fine for jumping, thats just a safety warning. My mountain bike said I shouldn't hit jumps with it in the manual too (yeah like thats gonna happen!)

Its not as comfortable as a kitesurf style harness but its much better for getting on over winter clothing! used it landboarding a bit too but I prefer a waist only harness. not tried it in a buggy.

I use my access XC harness and jump a lot. That warning is insurance related.

I have the newer version with the nylon loop, no D ring. I put a nice locking carabiner on my webbing loop, and I just clip in to the chicken loop. I don't do unhooked tricks so it's just fine for me.
