HQ Toxic

lives2fly - 17-4-2013 at 03:13 AM

Has anyone tried an HQ toxic?

I mainly fly de-power these days but i still prefer fixed bridle with handles for really low wind land boarding and of course static flying. I really cant justify the cost of a 19 or 21m flysurfer

Looking for something to sit above my 6.6 blade so got the 7.7 twister & Blade VIP on the radar also but I like the look of the 8m Toxic so would be interested to hear if anyone has tried one?

You should really try a 14m montana 7. Amazing low wind kite, and the price tag is good too

The Toxic is a higher performance kite than the Beamer. It turns faster and points further upwind. The 8m would fit nicely above your 6.6m. Fly is correct that the big Matrix or Montana would be a nice choice as well, and might offer even better low wind performance with a wider wind range.

I have an 8m toxic, plus the 6.5 and the 4

Nice handling kite, not as lifty as the blades can be though, the 8 has a lot of pull in low wind, it's a mid performance kite, not a vapor but it's got more grunt than a method .

Here's a quick home vid of my 8m toxic

As a quick comparison, in the vid I overtake a 6.5 m method...... Eats it for breakfast :wee:

I like the Toxic. its a decent choice. Reactor is also good for the same thing. Got a 10.8 sitting here waiting for a home.

Thanks for the responses.

Clive, thanks for posting the vid. I would be very happy to get runs like that in 6-7knts! The kite looks nice in the air too. The Toxic is probably HQ's best looking sail in my opinion. I don't really go for their current edition depowers.

I had thought about a big depower open cell instead of a flysurfer - in this case I would probably go for a 12m Summit or a 13 Frenzy because I already have the megatron control gear on my Access so they would actually work out a bit cheaper than a Montana which only seems to be available as an RTF package. Its still a shedload of money for something I won't use that often.

I think if i'm going to get a low wind kite in the near future it has to be a big FB. (that way i still have an excuse to buy more kites later :tumble: )

Mike, I havn't even considered the Reactor. I always thought of it as a buggy racing kite! Has it got much lift in low winds? I do own a buggy but I'm happier on a board. I suppose the 7.7 Twister could be an option too (the 5.6 is my favourite of my FB kites) but felt like trying a different manufacturer.

choices choices....

the 10.8 Mike is talking about is a Reactor II. If you get out of its wind range it pulls up or sideways hard. Not really lifty though. You would need to fly something else if the wind was over 10 mph.

A couple of weeks ago I did 31mph on the beach with my RII 10.8 !Not sure of the wind speed but that was all the power I could hold down without being dragged off the beach...

Wow, you must've had a downwind line to go that fast with that kite. I've only been about 32 with the 8.6. The Reactor IIs seem to have a speed limit. I'm sure you had your hands full at that speed with such a huge kite.

RonH - 19-4-2013 at 10:22 AM

Downwind... sure a bit. Coming back was slower.

Funny that 20 to 25mph is an easy cruise on the beach with the 10.8 and 30 is no easy laid back ride.

Back on topic..

The toxic looks like a nice kite. Haven't flown one yet though

Decided to go for it and ordered the 8.0m last night! I had a bit of a choice around the Reactor, an a very well priced 7.7 twister and Blade VIP showing up on UK Ebay this week!

In the end I just kept going back to the Toxic and decided it was time to bite the bullet and order one.

There's a week of light winds forecast for next week and after getting out on the water 5 times in the last 11 days in 20 knots + the thought of not getting out kiting is pretty scary and you can always get out with a big fixed bridle :D

Looking forward to giving the Toxic a fly.

I've got the Blade VIP and Reactor II 10.8 and love them. I've used the 10.8 for boarding and have managed some jumps but enjoy the Blade more on the board due to it's upwards pull.

I also like the graphics on the Toxic's and was actually thinking of getting one for buggying a while back.

Please post a review after you've had a chance to fly it...be curious to see how you like it.

The Toxic does look nice :) HQ kites normally aren't the nicest looking designs but they did a good job on this one. 2013 Reactor also looks awesome.

Yeah, I will post a review once its had a couple of outings and be sure to gice the buggy a run with it. Getting it from Germany so it will probably take a couple of days extra to arrive.
