pbc - 12-4-2013 at 08:11 PM

I'm in for my usual: arrive by Wednesday noon, leave Sunday morning. Also as usual I'm camping at the JI Campground in the same spots as last year: H1 and H2. It's the usual suspects at my site, please one new recruit. So we should have 5 peeps in all.

Philip

soliver - 13-4-2013 at 05:15 AM

I'll be arriving some time Wed afternoon dependent on when I can drag my hind quarters out of bed in the morning. Knkmanthey and I are sharing a campsite.

My wife and kids will show up Friday afternoon then head over to Saint Simons Isl on Saturday after the turtle center tour. I will head over to Saint Simons after all the event activities are over on Saturday to join my wife and kids and in-laws.

Super excited!!!

mougl - 13-4-2013 at 05:26 AM

Spencer...not acceptable! You must arrive Monday for the pregame!

I would SOOOOO love to do that but my Vaca time is limited, and I don't want to wear out wifey's patience with no assisting her w 3 kiddos for a whole week.

Plus I'll be on SSI the week after.

I will probably arrive late .. I mean really late wednesday (midnite) and stay until sunday morning when I have to head back to Texas. Been meaning to come to JIBE for the last 2 years!!! Can't wait to ride the beach with you guys.

Nfish - 15-4-2013 at 09:49 AM

acampbell - 15-4-2013 at 12:22 PM

At Jekyll now chasing down a misdirected Peter Lynn order and the wind is on shore and fresh. Very common now so this bodes well.

Also just got startled by a Blackhawk copter racing down the beach about 100-200' off the deck. Wtf? Very low very fast very loud very cool.

frankiter - 15-4-2013 at 12:30 PM

Maybe the Blackhawk was practicing the fly by for the JIBE opening ceremonies?

mougl - 15-4-2013 at 01:42 PM

No! That's what the C-130 is for!

FRANKEN-TANDEM is available for rides too, though I warn you that I'm new to piloting the tandem, Phillip might be a better choice for the faint at heart,... I'm mostly bringing mine for wifey and kiddos to join the fun!!!

flyhighWNY - 15-4-2013 at 06:32 PM

Awesome great to hear!! Looks like 3 days in Virginia Beach hopefully kiting 1 day and disc golf the next. Followed by Disney and Clearwater, FL Gulf coast and some more disc golf... Then JIBE to finish off the trip. Then back to WNY..

pbc - 15-4-2013 at 07:12 PM

Did I hear "Disc Golf? I'll bring my discs. JI doesn't have a course, but we could make one up.

As to me being the "safer" option, I think a little full disclosure is in order. No one was injured in my tandem last year, but I did have one brain fart and crashed the buggy straight into the surf. It was a rapid and very wet deceleration. It will likely not happen again, but the odds are not zero. The moral is, don't let me talk too much or I'll get distracted.

More disclosure: my philosophy on tandem is "If can't feel the G-force, you can't feel the G-force." When I have passengers I go up one size in kites to make sure I have the juice for some rip-roaring acceleration and some good top speed. You will absolutely have to hang on tight.

Duly noted... I, on the other hand, tend to fly under powered,.... Lets see what happens

flyhighWNY - 15-4-2013 at 07:53 PM

well I'm not one that scares easy!! Looking forward to it!! Been to chilly here and my GF has no real clue about kites, buggies, sailing or disc golf other than they cost money and I like em ALOT!! she'll love it on tandem.. Shoot I may need a ride too just so I can feel the G's baby!

Gettin ready for the sun, sand and the sea.

MyAikenCheeks - 17-4-2013 at 06:44 PM

Hello you all,
I'll be following PoKiteTrash down on Wednesday AM. Got to cover his back side and pick up whatever falls off the Kite Fort! :-)

Bringing down a newbie OOBE Field Dirt Diver. Actually he's got a year under his belt and is excited about buggy on the sand. He's a fast learner and a great all around nice fellow.

Angus has approved the new official JIBE 2013 T-shirt. Looks great! I'll be printing on black tees, a multi color print with a crest print on the front and a full color back print.

Angus needs to get those shirt orders in soon so he can get all the right sizes for everyone so please get registered asap.

There will also be event stickers to match for helmets or vehicles or what ever.

Looking forward to a great JIBE this year, see you all soon.:wee:

Bmwbob - 18-4-2013 at 11:35 AM

Wife and I and dog and cat will be there Tue PM -Sun am.
Bringing the Navarro and the big Revs. Maybe I can learn how to use 'em up there!
Also hope to be bringing a Blokart with the sidecar setup to see if it will work on the beach.
Bob

knkmannthey - 18-4-2013 at 12:44 PM

Big Revs? I never flown revs for power but revs are great flying kites I have a 1.5 sle

Bmwbob - 18-4-2013 at 02:01 PM

I also have a 1.5 SLE.
Wait until you grab hold of a Power Blast 2-4, or if you're a REAL (troglodyte) man, the 4-8!
I've only had the 4-8 up once in almost no wind. In 15 mph winds the 2-4 will abuse you about all a sane person could want.
Like the other kid said about Mikey: "TRY it , you'll LIKE it!" :bouncy:

soliver - 18-4-2013 at 05:40 PM

Hey gang, I have a small 5 gal porter cable compressor and the attachment for tire valves so as to inflate tires. I was considering bringing it to share with the gang if anyone wants to add air to tires etc.

Would it be worth bringing, or is it just as easy to share a hand pump? I'm perfectly comfortable to leave it in the care of the kitefort gang.

If I brought it, would it be used, or is it just not worth it?

acampbell - 19-4-2013 at 08:13 AM

I have a 12v compressor that, with some coercion, is enough to set the bead on the rim in the case of tubeless tires.

Bmwbob - 19-4-2013 at 08:36 AM

I change my own motorcycle tires, so I have a really good set of tire irons I can bring if we're going to do this sort of thing. My bead breaker is a bit of overkill for these little guys. Someone should be able to jump on the sidewall with enough force to unseat the bead.
Bob

pokitetrash - 19-4-2013 at 12:29 PM

There's 12 & 120 volt outlets on the outside the Kite Fort for any type of compressor.

soliver - 19-4-2013 at 07:18 PM

So is it worth the trouble to bring it then or is it overkill?

mougl - 19-4-2013 at 07:20 PM

More power! /Tim Allen grunts

soliver - 19-4-2013 at 07:57 PM

Ok then, I'll do my best to fit it in my kitemobile.

TEDWESLEY - 20-4-2013 at 11:26 AM

Wife, two Schnoodle dogs and a van full 'o stuff. Be there the third and all of the week. The wife thinks we should retire to Jekyll. I must be dreaming....
Got helmets for the dogs so they won't be scared when Todd crashes a kite on them!

About 1400 miles into trip across US. 1800 more. Hanging out in Denver, Co. Until late May 2. Since this trip is not just about me, and Carol (wife) has a quilt in a show in Denver we need to be here for the first day of show. Heading south out of Denver through Amerillo, Dallas, then eventually connecting with Interstate 10 East.
Woke to about 3 inches of snow this morning, still coming down. If all goes well, will be in Jekyll on the 7th. Hope to buggy in the afternoon.

The snow surprised us. Knew it was coming, but thought it would just snow the melt away. 6 inches later. We stayed at a park near the Wheat Ridge green belt so the snow interfered with the plans to either ride our bikes to Golden or into Denver. Did have a couple of very good walks though. Carol says thank you, enjoyed the show. Always a honor to get something in a juried show. Left town, this afternoon, got an introduction to Hugo, Co. Not a fan! But the town does need to support their chief of police. Continuing East, tomorrow. Note to self, be aware of a rapid change in speed signs and act accordingly.

Is the rain going to ever stop? Brunswick reminds me of the Oregon Coast always raining.

acampbell - 4-5-2013 at 10:01 AM

Rain goes away Sunday and sunny all week. Highs in the upper 70's which is cool for the area, but as long as there is sun we should get the sea breeze.

Drewculous - 4-5-2013 at 01:39 PM

When you get wild Georgia shrimp you are close. They would kill me in minutes but locals seem to relish them. I prefer the local wind.
