little help on bar setup.

Can someone tell me how to set up this airush bar to flag out safely for a 17m Waroo? It does have little black stoppers up the line a ways, not sure what those are for..

usually the stoppers further up the line limit the length the bar will slide up the lines when you release to safety so the bar will stop when the kite flags far aenough without sliding further toward the kite and creating a big line mess with excess slack lines.

The flag out stopper balls have to be no less that the wing span of the largest kite you plan to use with the bar.

So if the 17m wingspan is 20' (I don't know the specs for this kite) then you stopper needs to be at least 20' up the line the bar slides up.

I like to add a few feet of flagging distance just in case but that's just me.

What do I need to add lines to so it flags out. Do I need a ring in there somewhere? Any pics?

Assuming its a 5 line bar the flag out line should run from your safety leash through the centre of the bar and up to the attachment point in the middle of the leading edge. Not really familair with the Waroo so sorry for the vagueness!

Most of them will run through a ring on the outside of the chicken loop with a stopper ball to stop them sliding through.

As others have said, some have a stopper ball higher up the line to stop the bar flying too far up the flag out line. its not really needed so don't worry if its not.

Basically if you take the kite out on a light wind day and pull your safety and the kite is left attached by only the centre flag out line then its working properly :) :)

I can't tell from the pic how the safety is set up specific to flag out. But if it's like other kites, your Venom included, there is a leash attached to you and to one of the 4 lines. When you release the CL the kite will be set free and the bar assembly will go with the kite but slide down the line that is secured to your leash.

Watch this video and you will see how he flag out works. Just skip ahead to 2:15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCCzIJ3iKGg&feature=share...

the Waroo won't flag out as cleanly as the Arc but you get the idea.

If the kite uses a 5th line attached to a center bridle, the flag out distance only needs to be half a wing length.

Airush bar and 17m Waroo combination, what year is this Waroo ?

Pretty sure its a 2008. The only thing I have right now is the front and back lines connected. The hole in the bar seems a little tight for another line. I think I have a close up if the chicken loop I'll post.

Feyd - 12-4-2013 at 05:14 PM

Okay, let me ask you this. Do any of the four lines you have connected have any ability to be pulled through the bar toward the pilot?

How old is the bar?

van - 12-4-2013 at 05:45 PM

Waroo works like majority of LEIs, you have to flag on one of the brake lines. Flagging on a front line will get you killed.

Feyd - 13-4-2013 at 04:50 AM

Right but my question here is does the bar have any way to actually flag the kite out?

I and if so, judging by Van's for sale sig  he has a 17m Waroo so he knows the distance for the stopper ball if this bar can flag out.

The older Airush bars I've seen were all able to flag out from the back line as Van described. We would just interconnect to the leader line on a given side and that went to the leash.

To try and answers your question feyd, there is nothing but lines and a trim strap on this bar.

Bladerunner - 13-4-2013 at 11:44 AM

Sounds like you are short a ring for the flag line to run through. Is there a ring on any of your leader lines?

eggy - 13-4-2013 at 12:05 PM

No rings. Now that I know to stay away from using the front lines to flag it out I think I can put it together, gonna need some more parts.

eggy - 29-4-2013 at 06:17 PM

I think I have all the parts. So someone let me know if i am rigging a suicide bar. The yellow Dyneema goes to the bar and so on. I was wondering do I need to have a similar setup on the other side to help with relaunching in the water if the kite is flipped on the other side? Also do I have to sew the Yellow in a loop or is it strong enough that knots don't weaken the line. Advice and pictures greatly accepted..

Dude, all LEI that I have flown flag out to a front line... whether its a 5th line safety to a centre bridle or just onto one side of a 4 line set up.

Here's a link to a PDF manual for Airush which will hopefully help. If its not the right one i'm sure you can have a look round the rest of the site yourself
