Revolution Power Blast 2-4 hover mode

Bmwbob - 19-3-2013 at 05:04 AM

Yesterday, I flew in the usual 7mph to zero up and down winds here at KSC.
I'm trying to learn the hover on this kite. On my little 1.5, I can park it anywhere in any attitude and it will stay there unless the wind totally quits.
On the PB 2-4, if I try to stop it somewhere (oriented right side up) in the window, it will either try to climb, or slide back down and land. I am confident this is NOT a result of me over controlling the kite.
I wonder if this is just the reality of a heavier kite in these light and variable wind conditions, or if I'm missing something in my understanding of the Rev training DVD.

Have you tried http://www.revkites.com/forum/ they could help more than most of us. A few have PBs ,and alot of us (me incl.) have 1.5 SLEs. Fun kites for sure. Some Have even buggied with the PBs :cool2::ninja:

I haven't put this one on the Rev forum yet as I figured it was more of a power kite question.
I will try it over there as well now.

static...not quite...if winds are very ideal you should be able to hover while standing still but rarely winds like to cooperate that well.
what you may need to do to get a nice hover is to move back and/or forth to get the hover just perfect.
if kite is climbing and you can not correct/maintain hover with handle input then move forward slowly(or not so slowly) as needed.
if kite is falling and you can not correct/maintain hover with handle input then move back accordingly.

So it really is as simple as just having adequate wind speed to support the weight of the kite in a hover.
That's good. I was thinking there must be some Jedi technique I hadn't picked up on yet.
Steady winds: I hear people talk of them so they MUST exist somewhere!
Thanks!

Hovering on the beach....you can almost just stake the handles and the kite will stay there for hours. Hovering inland? Well....it can be a challenge and you will wear out the soles of your shoes. :)

Winds will make the biggest difference in how your kite performs, especially in hovering. The smoother the winds, the easier it is to park the kite, the more turbulent or gusty, the more difficult it is and will require a lot of foot movement AND hand controls.

OK. It's (mostly) the wind then, and not me.
My interest in hovering the big stuff was for the time between when I launched the kite and when I was seated in the buggy ready to go for it.
BTW, I seem to have received my first non-blood related power kiting boo-boo.
I strained whatever muscle is on the back side of my left shoulder blade getting jerked around Sunday and Monday, so I need to go back to the 1.5 for a few days.
