i would like to hit that spot. crazy flat. looks like a reservoir ?

It's the Ski Basin in Rockport, TX

Google Maps link: http://g.co/maps/yudhy

The spot sets up offshore on a SE wind, which is the dominant direction in the area. The water right behind the grass on the SE side is super glassy.

You HAVE to be able to go upwind at this spot, and know how to self-rescue with the quickness because there is a major road downwind of the the riding area. :shocked2:

Here's some vids from that same day showing kitemare (jasson) and some other Austin riders:

are there any spots like this around matagorda/galveston?

I honestly don't know... If I were looking in those areas, I'd use Google Maps to find spots then go check em out.

Here are some pics from the part of the Austin crew that didn't go to the Corpus area. We rode at Lake Pflugerville and the wind speeds were averaging in the high 20s, there were gusts to low 40s, and lulls were in the mid teens :o

I didn't see any pics from the Rockport Ski Basin. :puzzled:
I kite the rockport ski basin during the summer when I go home to visit. It's really deep in the center so it's not beginner friendly. Life jacket saved me a few times when I crash my kite. You can't stand up to help with the relaunch so swimming back to the shallow shore is great with floatation.

Also, watch out for the boats. I usually prefer the beach side when the tourists arent' around. It's alot more fun with the small chops.
