Its all relative baby!

So my nuke winds lately, week and a half of 50+ mph winds... ive been thinking... What is your high winds?

What winds do you fly up to, and when do you call it quits? What kite do you use in said winds?

*this isnt an endorsement for stupidity, and its not meant to be a bragging post... Just curiosity

Ive just been in awe of the seemingly mild winds people avoid... 20mph is mellow wind around here lol! News reported we hit 74mph winds late last week... Lol no I wasnt out!

All that being said, I had a 1.8 rage up in 50s w/ 65mph gusts it was too nuts, and didnt last long... But on the more normal level.. Blade 8.5 is up till low 20s, twister / phantom is up till 30s, apex is great in the 40s........

For the record im 240ish (losing lbs by the day tho) 6'2", and pretty built... I buggy, atb, static and jump.... Wahoo!

So, what is high wind in your neck of the woods? Mine? (see wyoming windsock  )

Well here in the San Fernando Valley (L.A. suburb), we'll get some Santa Ana days where it can get pretty strong (gusts to 50 sometimes, but normally it's between 25-35mph). It always comes out of the North and is extremely gusty. The park I ride in is relatively small so in those conditions, I'll always ride my buggy, never my landboard, and from 25-30, I'll be riding my 3.5 Ozone Cult and if it hits up to 35, I'll put up my 2.5 Blurr. It might hit 40mph up top, but then I'm done.

In the ocean, my max is probably about 30mph...maybe even high twenties. I think my paragliding accident a while back has made me more timid but I also know all the things that can go wrong and how fast it can happen at those wind speeds. Just not willing to take those risks anymore....

So far, 19m charger29mph gusting to 36mph..... Going hooj!

12m charger 30_40mph.nothing beyond that. At most well get a few days a year gusting into the 40s. Maybe in the 50s during a spring storm.

You have chaos winds drew!

Christ, 30mph and I'm on my 5m mowin the lawn, you guys make me feel like I gotta step it up.

up to 15-ranger12, up to 30 rev9, up to 40 slingshot octane5, 40+ live to kite another day!

But this is pure inland shiftyness, always gotta be ready for a gust of 15+ on top of whatever is blowing.

Truly in awe of the cajones!

Past weekend forecast was 60km gusting to 73km

We hit the water on 7m LEI. Awesome!!!
I think the wind dropped a bit by noon when I hit the water.

Too bad there isnt space to run high speed in the buggy.

venom 16 on the water in a 46mph gust, 30-35mph sustained. your out and these things happen.

out on the water on V13 in about 20, came in and drop as a 61mph burst mowed down the beach , the most frightening minute i can remember even with it flagging i'm sliding along the sand.

there have been a couple moments where things get whacked by a huge gust and your stuff is gone and your swimming.

Keep in mind air temps. 20mph in the summer has a lot less punch than 20mph at -15f.

I have a really hard time choosing kite size in the summer. :dunno:

I'll light up the 5m Apex and Element in 25-35mph wind but its almost always gusty and at 150# its more survival flying than anything else.
