So, after our last session at Wildwood I'm considering a very high wind kite.
We had 20-28mph winds, 170# pilot. Dirty shifty winds didn't help at all either.
I'm thinking I'll be on the market for it in the next month. Just wanted to see what's out there.
I've been giving it some though and was thinking maybe something like a 1.7-2.0fb or a depower. I'd probably lean more towards depower.
Any ideas what's out there for 140-170# riders, something that would handle dirty winds and would work on the bug 25+mph winds?Drewculous - 27-2-2012 at 08:50 PM
9m phantom :D (or 6m... Just to get one lol)
Granted im heavier than you, but that is phantom 15 and twister 5.6 weather around here..... No wind is clean out here nebraska be dirty!
2+ meter fb is the smallest id go in your position for those winds..... My new 1.8 loves 45+ bug or atbBeamerBob - 27-2-2012 at 08:52 PM
7.5 HQ Apex or 7m Montana would be well powered in that wind. If you wanted to play it more safe, a 5m Apex. But yes a 9m Phantom would be really
nice in that too. No sining necessary!Drewculous - 27-2-2012 at 08:56 PM
5m apex 3 is a great rig... Wont eat gusts as well as the phannys, but I like mine for high wind daysmartinipro - 27-2-2012 at 08:58 PM
I was to scared to put up the P12, i guess I gotta grow a pair. In my defense, It was pretty dirty I had my 2.5 rage fall out of the sky a couple
times. Also the 8 synergy was acting funny... Live to kite another day right?!
I was hoping I didn't have to fill that phantom quiver! 6 and 9 are rare and expensive!lad - 27-2-2012 at 09:14 PM
WW was hitting into the 30s at times out there, fer sure. Wind shadows all over (didn't seem to bother the blokarts, tho) :ticking:
Drew - u prob. don't get a lot of hard-packed sand and ocean weather in Neb.
so you would roll further in the same winds back here...
I may be adding more to the smaller end of my Phanny brigade (but I'd still think even a 9m would be touch n go in that kind of weather!)John Holgate - 27-2-2012 at 09:38 PM
I usually put my 5m Apex away around the 22 knot mark and pull out the 4m Ozone Access. I've had this out around the 30knot mark a couple of times
with no drama. Probably the HQ Apex III 3m too. I believe there's a small Flysurfer Viron depower...2.5m ?? that would probably be ideal although
probably more expensive than the first couple of options.martinipro - 27-2-2012 at 09:45 PM
Thanks for everyone's input.
So I may consider 3m, 5m? apex. 4m access, 6m, 9m? phantoms. Question marks I'm unsure if my skill level would allow me to handle them in the wind
range I'm looking for.
John I think the viron comes in 2.5, 4 and 6 but I really question it's upwind capability. It seems very low aspect. If someone has tried it, I would
be interested in hearing about it.soliver - 27-2-2012 at 10:21 PM
PL has a 2.6m viper s, that are soon to be discontinued. Viper s is supposed to be a great buggy kite, even the smaller 2.6m.
I know that Big Mike has them on sale now too because of their being discontinued. 10% off i think.Kober - 27-2-2012 at 10:40 PM

4m access. You won't regret it (coming from one who regrets selling his).martinipro - 28-2-2012 at 10:59 AM

You have some nice high wind kites in your quiver already for instance the Venom 10 is rock solid in the 20 to 30 range as well as the Synergy and
Phantom.
