Some Issues - V II

OmniSmurfZ - 18-2-2012 at 04:36 PM

I bought a kite, 13m Venom II hardly used. Now when I got it it had the 04 safety loop on it, which I thought the Venom II's came with the 07? The lines were also pretty worn, but alright. So whatever I've let those slide not too big of a deal.

About my 4th session in now one of the sticks broke. I've never crashed it into the ground, and when it happend i was just flying it through the window and I was like oh.. One of the sticks came un attached, thats odd. Landed it and proceeded to try to get the stick back together. Realized it was broke and had some fun getting it out without ripping the kite.

Does this happen that often? I was very surprised, I've taken really good care of it and it just did that out of nothing. Also where should I go to get new ones? Or even used ones.. I checked on awindofchange and theyre 60 dollars base for an 8m one and then added for extra sizes. To me thats insane for just an aluminum stick!

Thats where my next issue comes in. I was searching for venom II 13m compact sticks and I kept getting pictures of them and I could not find a single 13m one with the color scheme mine is. Do they share color schemes and I'm just unlucky to see no pictures or videos labeled with a 13m V II that is the same as mine. Or do I actually have a 16m?

If you look at the bottom towards the left where it shows all the colors mine is the yellow/blue/black/white one.

I cannot speak to the frequency or causes, but it does happen.

I like the solution Angus provides at Coastal Wind Sports. It is cheaper and the end caps are much nicer.

For the cheapest solution, there is a fairly recent thread about making your own out of various materials. This included links to suppliers for the materials. I thought I bookmarked it, but no luck right now.

The ends of Angus bar are worth going that route IMHO. I'm partial though.

You can also use tent poles -

Looks of links on this site to different places to buy.

Oh sweet, well I love DIY stuff, so if you can find that link I'd prefer to go that way.

Here are two other threads.

I didn’t find the one I was thinking of. Maybe I dreamt it.

With the Venoms and every kite other than the Phantoms, there were a number of colour options for a family of kites and you could get any size in one of the colour schemes. At one point there were 5 or 6 colour choices but they have come down to three colour schemes in the last few kites.
For the bar, many riders mix and match bars - some people that had 04 bars got new kites and never moved to the 07 bar. It doean't make using an 04 bar wrong - you could buy kite only or kite complete and some dealers might even have had different models of bars offering a choice to buyers. And then a number of people were modify bars for their own liking as well.

I have kites with OEM PL's in them, but my fav's by far are the custom spars that Angus at coastalwindsports makes.

I also have a couple of sets of carbon fiber 1 piece sticks and one set of tent pole sticks.

The tent pole sticks work in a bind but scale out heavier than all the others..... at least the ones I got.

Yea that makes sense markite.

Thanks for all the links.

You guys are awesome!

I decided to go with the famous Angus Sticks. Be back up n flying in no time! Maybe with having this one out of the quiver though it'll give me a chance to nut up and use the 19 V I got from you goof. I've been too chicken #@%$#! to try it yet haha, its scary big! Whenever I try to get it launched I don't have enough wind to get it up and when theres enough wind to get it up I'm like ehhh I'm feeling the P or V II today.

I'm quite sure it'll be very well marked with 13's all over the place. Wingtips, by the deflate zip on the belly.

That is very true as well... I just had a weak moment I guess.
