First Video Attempt....(video included)

Cheddarhead - 13-2-2012 at 05:58 PM

Had some footage from last week that was burning a hole in my pocket so I decided to attempt my first video. This whole video editing thing is certainly confusing to me but will probably get easier with time. I really don't know what the heck I'm doing so bear with me. I had to do some converting so the vid suffered some quality loss. Didn't realize how much I move my head around untill I watched the video on TV, hope you guys don't get motion sickness easily.

Even though the winds were low, it still was a fantastic day for some cruising in the sunshine!

nice job

Awesome- very chill vibe in the video... Love how that kite just sits at the edge of the window almost motionless :)

Some serious park & ride action! Thanks for sharing, it was nice!

I didn't know how much I moved my head either, but video makes it obvious. I think you move it less than I do. Nice job.

Nice :) you on skis, on a frozen lake?

Flyfish - 13-2-2012 at 08:52 PM

Sweet! Nice sesh! I'm thinking your having WAY more fun than the guys sitting in the little fish huts!

Cheddarhead - 13-2-2012 at 10:09 PM

Thanks for the props guys!

Kami: Yes, skis on a frozen lake. Very little snow this year as you can tell. Little snow + hard ice = No jumping with little skillz, it hurts too much!

All the shacks on the ice can be somewhat of a hazard untill you get out further. With the strange winter we've had this year I chose not to drive out on the ice with the truck. Most winters it's not a problem but this year the lake froze poor in too many spots so I know better than to chance it.

I used to be one of those guys in the fishing huts.......yeah, way more fun tethered to a kite.:bouncy:

Kamikuza - 13-2-2012 at 11:42 PM

You know it :wee: I got a real hate-on for the fisher-freaks here who just kill the fish then leave it lying around on the banks of rivers etc

Nice vid., looks like you guys have pretty much the same conditions we have. A little more snow but not much.

Here we have some invasive species that get caught and they leave them on the ice to die. Sometimes the eagles will come and pick 'em up but sometimes they just die and freeze solid onto the ice. When there's a thin layer of snow on top they become a wicked hazard if you hit 'em at speed. Thought I blew a knee a few times.

I hate seeing 'em suffer on the ice. If I come across a live one I'll stomp it with a ski and decapitate it.

Telestrat - 14-2-2012 at 07:01 AM

Awesome, man. What size kite is that and what was wind speed? Looks like you had some very smooth sailing!!

Cheddarhead - 14-2-2012 at 10:07 AM

Thanks Chris, plenty of resident eagles around here also. I think some fishermen think their doing the eagles a favor by throwing their unwanted fish on the ice:puzzled:

Telestrat: 11meter frenzy that I got from Kiteyakker. Extremely stable kite as you can tell but a tad on the slow side. It works perfect for my skill set at the moment. Winds averaging in the low teens, mph that is.

bobalooie57 - 14-2-2012 at 10:16 AM

Nice vid! Freaky weather here, too cold to buggy too warm to build up any snow. :( Great cruisin' session.

flyguy0101 - 14-2-2012 at 10:26 AM

cheddar,
really enjoyed the laid back cruisin. Sometimes its all about kite time, thanks for sharing

Nice, very smooth.

At first I thought you were on a landboard at the Salt Lake :embarrased:

That was awesome...very nice video...love watching nice chilled videos like that and the music matched the video perfectly.

Looks like a really nice spot..are the winds pretty consistent there? Looks like it would be a good lake to kite when in summer?

I wish it was, Salt lake is only a couple thousand miles from here, wish I lived closer. The conditions you see on the video is one of my favorites, enough snow to hold an edge but not too much to slow you down. I'm trying to get better at jumping so maybe one day I can get some on video. It just hurts too much to crash on almost bare ice, so I'll have to wait on practicing jumps.

Thanks Lunch, winds at Shawano lake are your typical inland lake winds, gusty. Trees line every shoreline so I always try to use the downwind side of the lake to help smooth out the wind some. If I can get a day where the winds gust no more than 10mph I'm doin really good. It is a fertile lake so summer brings lots of weeds if you don't mind that. The best places to summer kite around here is lake michigan. It has the smoothest wind by far but always has fridgid waters year around.

Feyd - 16-2-2012 at 05:54 AM

Hey Cheddar, what are the ice conditions in northern Wisco lately?

thanson2001ok - 16-2-2012 at 06:21 AM

Nice vid, Ched. Glad to see you out.

I finally made it out on Winnebago. Missed you at Sturgeon Stampede.

@Kris - plenty of ice on almost all lakes now. A big chunk of the state got 2-4" snow last week. Warm daytime temps AGAIN is taking that back down to hard stuff again. Further North has more snow, but I cannot imagine much.
