BR's next adventures this winter.

herc - 22-10-2011 at 04:44 AM

hehe - i tried parakiting / paragliding with my peter lynn scorpion 16 sqm but failed. reason: bad conditions (not enough headwind) and wrong terrain (the slope of my baby-hill is simply not steep enough. i barely can glide there with my paraglider..)

but the above video prooves that it is possible to use a big PL arc for speedflying.
highly interesting ! i wish the guy in the video will try it with much shorter lines so to get closer to paraglider style flying with less pendulum motions. maybe he can even soar a ridge ?

(but a word of warning of someone here is tempted to try this out: this stuff is really dangerous - avoid any kind of turbulence..)

I'd like to see his set up. The harness looks like the old Thin Red Line alpine paragliding harness. I wonder shat lines he used and how he balanced the control lines vs the flying lines. I have the perfect hill in the winter to try this, and yes I am a P3 para pilot.

the video says 20m kite but it looks mostly like a venom to me but neither a venom nor scorpion were available in 20m. Just a fact messed up? I was surprised to see him flying with a para glider control setup. The 18m Phantom might not have enough projected area for this. I imagine lower aspect high projected area would be the ticket here.

AWESOME!

Where's Flyjump??? He's gotta see this!

PHREERIDER - 22-10-2011 at 09:28 AM

venom 16 or 19. i would say 16

Bladerunner - 22-10-2011 at 09:42 AM

I think that's pretty cool but it makes me think bad thoughts !

It reminds me a LOT of a video I saw just starting out of a ? Mandibule? in similar conditions with similar results. Doesn't this have a LOT to do with choice locations? The mandibule was similar kite to an arc on loop handles . I'll try and search it .

Why wouldn't it be as simple as handles on an arc in those conditions? :duh:

Here is a start

Can't find the soaring video of the mandibule but don't have Indigo skills.

Nie find John... Look at all that open space!

Kamikuza - 23-10-2011 at 05:09 PM

I was doing a bit of that last night :o got off the water at dark, to discover just how over-powered I was on the 21  walk backwards, sheet in and hop ... :wee:

Don't think I like the idea of going backwards though ...

herc - 24-10-2011 at 05:21 AM

kami: get yourself a cheap, used paragliding harness for < 100 dollar from ebay and try forward flying with your speed3 21 - running into headwind, pulling brakes a bit, making smaller hops.. very interested to see a vid !

Feyd - 25-10-2011 at 03:46 PM

Kami=Crash test dummy.

Sounds like fun. I second Herc on this Kami so get urself out there and lets see what happens!
