Has anyone tried Kite Sledding

JoeB - 25-9-2011 at 11:54 AM

I'm a real newbie to kiting and was looking at snow kiting and came across a steerable sled. Has anyone seen this kited?
You can sit upright and steer with your feet.

you would need some rests on the sides for the lateral pull...

I'd be interested in sled kiting too if there was some sort of snow vehicle that would take the place of a buggy...why stand on your pins atop a slippery slat or two if you could sit you butt on a snow bug! :bouncing:

The Hammerhead is a bit narrow but may work with some modifications. There are two black plastic kneel on sleds that steer by leaning and the might work a little bit. The only proven designs are the Peter Lynn sleds , my snowspider sled , and Deans ( aka kteguru) buggy with the ski/blade setup. Keiron has pics on the forum of his ski sled setup , similar concept to mine. Check the gallery under ski... for pics of my "snowspider sled"

I forgot this one , xxtreem apexx is also developing a buggy/sled

What if you could just take a buggy and swap the wheels for some kind of ski? Like this. Maybe some wider slats for powder?

i have such a mod on my flexi bug 2 skis and a front skate which i might replace with a 3rd ski......

Let's see a pic wheresthewind! Front skate would be a good idea on ice or hardpack...but prolly not so good in the soft stuff I'm guessing?

Jaymz did something a couple of years ago....

Popeye has a bunch of pics of different rigs on his site:

A PL mod with runners

A while back someone sold a Flexifoil buggy fully kitted with runners.... thinking that was about 2 or 3 winters ago.

Depending on terrain, I am thinking that a belly pan would be strongly recommended as soft snow or a rut could easily place the squishy bits in harm's way.

Sam

true...you'd either need to increase the clearance or wear some kind of basting pan on your ass, keep one handy after thanksgiving

Most lakes around here turn to mostly ice, with piles of drifted snow. You'd almost need a ski with a 1 inch skate blade welded onto the bottom of it so it would keep an edge on ice but ride over the drifts
