Flying near the Baltimore Area

martinipro - 1-9-2011 at 10:26 AM

Does anyone know any parks/fields around the Baltimore area that would be good for some kite flying?
I guess a beach would work too, but im not looking to go too far from the city itself.

Any input is appreciated :wee:

Wind direction in Baltimore area is very fickle. There is a park on the south side of the bay that only works on a North/ NNW wind. Any other direction, and it gets very bouncy and rough (got lofted a few times in gusty conditions there). This is a location we refer to as The Bowl. It is one of my favorite spots to buggy in the area, but requires very special conditions as previously noted.

As you are looking for buggy locations, you're best bet is either taking the drive to Wildwood, or looking for a small field/farm to fly on. Personally, I have not had much luck in the finding a smaller field to fly on. There are a couple in the DC area, but they are rather small, gusty, and very direction specific.

If the tides are right, head to Wildwood. After this weekend, kites are allowed back on the beach.. just be wary of people getting in the way..

Yea I will go to Wildwood once we get the beach back.
I am going to be in Baltimore for the weekend and wanted to find a place to kite around there.

Any chance I can get the address of "The Bowl" seems like an interesting field. I saw your post about it in the NJ buggy club. You can U2U me the address please!

Thanks

Thanks!

I'll check winds once I'm there, it's good to have the option.

It is going to be generally insane in Baltimore this weekend because of the Grand Prix (unless that's what you're there for!) - I was thinking of coming down for a little event this evening, but the streets are already blocked.
