Power Kite Forum

Irritated and Crabby today...

pokitetrash - 9-3-2011 at 11:56 AM

Is it just me or does it annoy anyone else when a new member joins obviously just to sell something and with only 1 or 2 posts is rarely heard from, doesn't return U2Us, emails, etc... It's happened to me twice this week.

Speaking solely for me, I get excited about a kite prospect, and generally if I ask a question on the forum or a U2U its because I want to buy RIGHT NOW.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm glad they join, we all like to talk about what we love but would it be possible for PKF to have a policy that says you should have a minimum number of posts before you can sell something? That would show that the person is involved in our PKF community and not just trolling for a sale.

For me, part of the enjoyment of buying a used kite, is getting one from a fellow PKFer and the banter along with the sale thread.

Ok, Im thru #@%$#!ing... :ticking:

I'm with you and while I don't think PKf can do anything to fix the issue, we can police ourselves and not purchase from those that just come to cash in on our community here. There is one in particular that comes here over and over to sell kites, and never contributes anything to the community. I know lots of people lurk and read the forum without contributing which is fine and they might someday have a question or comment that brings them to the surface. But someone in the game long enough to have kites or equipment to sell, should also have something to add to the forum. It's just rude (or at least not good business) to post something for sale and then not respond to inquiries.

It's happend to me a few times too. It bugs me when people don't contribute but sometimes they do have a good deal to offer. I just wish they would take the time to get to know people.

I guess I never really thought about it. I think I mentally add in a few grains of salt when a sale goes up and the post count of the seller is low. Not a ding on the seller... much as a mental management of expectations.

One of the other forums I frequent doesn't allow you to post to the Buy/Sell/Trade sections of the forum, until you have at least 15 posts. Most forum software allows you to restrict access to sections (and sometimes even U2Us) until you have accumulated <n> posts.

Honestly, it probably peeves me more when folks leave the Location / Email fields in their profiles blank. The former makes it easier to direct people to stores and other fliers in their area.

The latter because it makes email responses easier when a U2U box gets filled up or if you read your email more frequently than PKF (yeah, I know.... perish the thought). Some forums use an email icon builder, so that emails aren't as susceptible to spammers using spiders to cull emails from sigs and such. They even look nice:

Oh yeah... the speculative nature of gas pricing and knee jerk nature of local ordinances also drives me crazy too. Can I get an "Amen?"

Sam

I guess I wouldn't mind so much if someone new put up a Phantom 9!:spin:

kitedelight - 9-3-2011 at 03:38 PM

ya not returning u2u us pretty dumb when u want to sell a kite.
...the one upside of people joining only to sell gear is that there is more gear available. that's a plus...

I'm biting my tongue ...

I do not feel very confident buying a kite from someone with 2 posts. I feel like if they are not known on the forum the risk level is higher.....JMO.

truman - 9-3-2011 at 06:12 PM

I have seen this done on some of the RC forums so it must be possible

Amen, Brother Sam. Amen!

It's so nice buying from you guys. Let's have a brief inventory of all of the kite gear I acquired and where I got it since May 2009 when I joined here:

Scorp 16 and Bar: PFKer
Ozone Seat Harness: PFKer
Scorp 10: PKFer
PL Seat Harness and Spreader: PKFer
Spars for Arc: PKFer
PeterLynn Comp XR+: PFKer
Used bar: Ebay
Bare bar: Retail
Phantom 15: PKFer

I sold some gear as well:

Peter Lynn Comp Buggy: PFKer
Ozone Seat Harness: PKFer

Some of this was from dealers, some from reps, some from fliers, but in every case I still think I got a fair price. I love working with you guys.

Philip
